The economy sucks, times are tough, and our wallets are growing increasingly bare as the holidays quickly approach. While many of us wish we could contribute to charitable causes, finances have a habit of making things complicated. Lucky for us 8-Bit Brigade has a few more days left in their annual holiday fundraiser. With 100% of the donations going directly to Child’s Play, the raffle-like setup allows you a shot at awesome and expensive prizes for whatever monetary amount you can afford. Even just a single dollar gives you a chance at winning a signed copy of Halo 3: ODST, a full Band Hero bundle, three autographed MC Frontalot albums, and numerous other gaming-related items. The drawing takes place this Sunday, December 13th at 3 PM ET so you only have a few more days to make a donation and have a hand in helping improve the lives of sick children around the world. Oh man, I hope I win one of the gift certificates to bs angel’s video game greeting card shop! :fingers crossed:

I am a horrible procrastinator so I don’t plan on starting my holiday shopping for at least another few months. Those of you who are on top of your game though may appreciate the early notice of this charity-driven project which resulted in something perfect for the avid gamer on your list. Designed by the tongue-twisted folks over at Fazy Luckers, A Gamer’s Alphabet is a bound compilation of terms that you should already be more than a little familiar with, all in spectacular image form. There’s a soft cover version of this book available for $20.95 with a more sturdy hardcover edition costing $30.95. All profits from A Gamer’s Alphabet go to Marissa’s Bunny, a little girl suffering from Infantile Spasms whose family works to raise awareness of the disease not just for their daughter but for every young child struck with this particular pediatric epileptic condition. Oh, and you may have not known this but you actually make an appearance under “N”. All the more reason to buy a copy!

Canstruction is a cleverly named design competition where architects, engineers, and students team up to see who can create the biggest, most impressive sculpture comprised solely of unopened cans of food. The results are not only mindblowingly awesome but the entire event is also charitable in nature as all the canned food is donated at the competition’s conclusion to local food banks to aid in the ongoing fight against hunger. This year saw some amazing Pac-Man themed entries, one of which involved the gravity-defying consumption of a blue ghost (a picture of which is waiting for you after the jump). That’s neat and all, but does anybody else smell tuna? Oh wait, I just realized I haven’t showered yet today. My bad!

When I heard there was a voice recording from Joel “Caboose” Heyman up for grabs on eBay, I immediately began daydreaming about all the different things I could have him say in the one minute offered time span. Then I read the fine print which included the clause “must be tasteful” and all my hopes and dreams were dashed in a single instant. I am still planning on bidding though, not because the sound of his voice is enough to get the job done (it is) but rather all the proceeds from this auction, along with several other Halo-themed ones, are being donated to Child’s Play, a gamer-driven charity that works to improve the lives of sick children everywhere. If you want to score some sweet Halo swag, much of which is autographed by various industry-type people, check out the numerous bundles below!
