Fan Art: I am Your Soul

Cortana played a small but pivotal role last week in the triangular love story told through a short series of pictures, but this week she regains her rightful place as queen of all artificial intelligence. Before we get to a new piece of fan art though, I’d like to provide you with some closure to the previous story of one Hunter’s heartbreak. Jedigeek93 posted a follow-up to that series yesterday, the ending of which will not surprise you. The final chapter is appropriately titled Revenge.

While I feel very little pity for the Big Daddy, the loss of Cortana is a sad development. If that particular Cortana looked anything like the Cortana that is featured today, at least we can understand why the Big Daddy ultimately succumbed to temptation. Today’s piece, titled I am Your Soul and created by deviantART user =Halcylon, started as a stock image and then was digitally manipulated to transform the subject into a subtle version of Cortana. In general I am extremely drawn to the more realistic versions of her, perhaps because of the contrast to her non-physical state in the game, but this one in particular pulled me in the second I laid eyes on it. Expect your Cortana obsession to get just a bit more intense after viewing this image. As always, I’d love to hear your overall opinion but I’m also curious to know your thoughts regarding if her expression accurately portrays Cortana’s distinctive personality. Fan Art: Betrayal

While Cortana has been the focal point of all the fan art spotlights thus far, she grudgingly takes the backseat this week to a rather unorthodox pairing of video game characters. Fret not though because our favorite enticing holographic AI character does make a brief appearance towards the end of this series of pictures so she’ll be there, just not as much as you are accustomed to.

Our first piece of featured fan art was jaw-dropping sexy, the second was morbidly disturbing, the third was classically cartoonish, and the fourth is none of the above. Actually a short series of pictures created by deviantART user Jedigeek93, it tells the triangular love story of an adventurous Big Daddy, a heartbroken Hunter, and a very mischievous Cortana. While this particular spotlight won’t appeal to everybody, I found the unlikely pairing of the Big Daddy and Hunter to be quite appealing. Maybe because it’s unexpected, perhaps because they have similar body types but it just seemed right to me (until the end of course). Fan Art: Cortana by ZZoMBiEXIII

Last week, according to the comments, I traumatized numerous people with the very dark and disturbing depiction of Cortana I posted. This time around I have decided to be nice (enjoy it while it lasts, it’s typically a very cursory event) and make it up to you. As many of you know, ZZoMBiEXIII of Another Halo Comic Strip recently announced that he will no longer be creating his popular regularly updated comic series. While his fans may still be heartbroken, I’ll be darned if I am going to let him slip away into obscurity. A new Cortana piece appeared in his deviantART gallery a few days ago so that is the delicious piece of eye candy available for your ogling pleasure today. Done in the “Bruce Timm style seen in the Batman and Superman animated series from the 90s”, it has ZZoMBiEXIII written all over it. I love the belly button and … wait, are those bewbs I see?

Fan Art: Damned Cortana

Last week for fan art we looked at Cortana 2.0, a fleshy more modern version of our favorite holographic AI character that many of you enjoyed. (And by enjoyed I mean ogled over and commented about her bewbs.) This week goes in the complete opposite direction with something slightly more disturbing. (And by slightly more disturbing I mean there are no bewbs.)

This piece titled “Damned Cortana” was done by ~xalener, a deviantART user whom by first glance appears to enjoy creating things that are a little more unsettling in nature. His version of Cortana is exactly how I would picture her if she succumbed to the advances of Gravemind. Viewing this as a piece of art that is meant to elicit an emotional response, what do you think of this rather ghastly depiction of Cortana?

Fan Art: Cortana 2.0

Some gamers have absolutely astounding skills, and I don’t mean the kind you show off to your friends by expertly pushing a complicated series of buttons on your controller. Combine a passion for creating beautiful works of art with a passion for playing video games and you have the recipe for deliciously wonderful fan art. The gaming community is positively brimming with talent so I have decided to start the occasional spotlight of the more eye catching pieces I happen to stumble upon. Some will be beautiful, some will be disturbing, and most will be in between, but they will all pique your interest.

The first one we’re going to look at is called “Cortana 2.0” and it was done by an artist who goes by ~EvilFlesh over at deviantART, a popular online art community for artists and art lovers alike. As you can tell from the title, it’s actually a follow-up to a different Cortana piece he previously completed. You can already see the smaller image, but the full-size picture is waiting for you after the jump.
