Playing Dress Up With Your Wii

When I see a naked gaming console, it appears to me as a blank canvas for self expression. There are so many ways to customize them these days, from more in depth projects like fancy paint jobs to the inexpensive and deceptively easy process of skinning. With the variety of options out there, there is really no reason to not personalize your beloved console.

My poor, neglected Nintendo Wii has been sitting unadorned on my shelf since I purchased it last August. Entirely unacceptable, I know. That is why I recently decided to dress that poor thing up. She gets tired from serving as a bookend for my Xbox 360 games so I wanted to treat her to a new outfit for her diligent and dedicated service the past seven months.

I have always purchased my gaming skins from Decal Girl as that was simply the first place I bought a skin, but this time I decided to branch out and give a new site a try. Game Face Graphics caught my eye as they have several unique designs. When you shop for skins and accessories as much as I do, you start to notice many sites carry the exact same patterns and designs. Game Face Graphics has skins that I haven’t seen anywhere else before so that is where I ultimately landed to address my Nintendo Wii Skin needs.

Xbox 360 HD DVD Player $49.99, HD DVDs 50% Off at Amazon

Not many people were surprised when Toshiba finally announced that they will no longer develop, manufacture and market HD DVD players and recorders. When Microsoft followed suit with their statement that they were withdrawing from HD DVD, rumors began to circulate about how low the price for the Xbox 360 HD DVD Player would drop. Official word is that you can now expect to pick up this add on for an estimated $49.99 in most regions.

xbox 360 hd dvd player

Features include :

  • Supports existing HD DVD movie discs (more than 400 titles currently available in the US and 1,000 internationally)
  • Xbox 360 Media Remote Control (a $20 value – US ERP)
  • King Kong HD DVD (Available in North America Only)
  • Plays standard DVDs
  • Provides an additional USB port for your Xbox 360 and includes USB 2.0 cable

$50 is actually low enough that I would consider purchasing this right now. An additional USB port sounds nice (it would especially come in handy if I played Rock Band *cough*) and there are tons of sales out there on HD DVDs. The “Get 5 free movies when you buy select HD DVD players” deal is good for a few more days, and Amazon is having a “Save 50% on HD DVDs” sale for a limited time as well. Many of their titles are discounted even deeper than half off so you can find some great bargains in there. Perhaps the time is finally right if you have been on the fence about making this purchase, or maybe it is just time to say good riddance and get a Blu-ray player.

Fret the Faceplates, It’s Time to Skin

I’ve been disappointed in the lack of quality Guitar Hero III faceplates. One of features they heavily promoted was the customization of the guitars with new interchangeable faceplates except there are only a handful of designs that are easily accessible, none of which are particularly attractive. I do believe it is time to move onto skins as a way to personalize your instrument of choice. These are my favorite Guitar Hero III skins, some of which are girly, some of which are masculine, most of which are nestled happily in between.

Note : Nothing says rock star quite like screaming red, and the simplicity of the modern design is also quite appealing.

Rugged Handheld Bag

Normally I go for the girly girl handheld bags, I guess you could say I am just high maintenance like that. For some reason though, I still find myself liking this rugged bag. And it isn’t even pink.

Compatible with both Nintendo’s and Sony’s handheld playing systems, this camouflage bag will be available at Play-Asia sometime later this month for $19.99. And don’t forget, these handheld bags can be used for carrying things other than your gaming equipment as well. As if you could have forgotten that already.

For Serious Drummers Only

There has not been a shortage of mods for the flimsy fake drum set that comes with Rock Band. From covers for the drums (to quiet down the constant banging) to a drum pedal mod (that won’t break if you actually use it), gamers have been coming up with ways to improve their Rock Band drumming experience. While the other mods have been on a small scale, someone finally decided to do one on a much larger scale.

Preparing for the Flood

I love Beautiful Katamari. I may be pathetically bad at it (much like I am at absolutely any game I play) but I still find it incredibly fun. I have a particular fondness for weird off the wall games and Beautiful Katamari fits that bill perfectly. I guess you could say that’s just how I roll.

When I spied this Beautiful Katamari PSP bag over at Gamertag Radio, I instantly fell in love (which I made known in the comments). Not long after that I received an email from a friend who happened to have a few of them just lounging around his house. Apparently they were given out with the PSP release of the game. Being the super kind person that this gentleman is, he happily shipped one off to me. While I can find several uses for these magnificent bags, I guess this guy couldn’t. Yay for me!

My Fake Version of Rock Band

My stance on the popular music game Rock Band has not budged an inch since the game was released. No I don’t want it, and no I still won’t be purchasing it. Why? The main reasons are because I don’t want the humongous drum set further cluttering up my gaming room and I don’t want that piece of crap guitar that is only good for people that strum down. Not quite as important reasons include the lack of female singers on their song list and the fact that it is only available in the pricey bundle.

That being said, I love Guitar Hero and still waste away entirely too much of my life playing it. Everybody tells me the drums are the standout instrument in Rock Band, so I have decided to make my own version of Rock Band that will take up 99% less space.

usb roll up drum kit

This lovely drum set is USB powered meaning I can plug it into my 360’s ports. Yes, I understand there won’t be a track to follow on the actual game but I can plug it in and pretend like I am playing along with Guitar Hero. At least this way I can’t fail. The $29.99 pricetag is much nicer than the one that accompanies Rock Band, but the best thing about it is that it rolls up for easy storage. No worries about a big bulky fake set of drums in my family room anymore! Rock on.
