F.E.A.R.Do you remember when the last must have title in your forever expanding game library neared release? Do you recall how your excitement built exponentially as the date slowly inched closer? And how you couldn’t wait to explore every last hidden nook and cranny of that secret, fantasy universe? What about the lengths you went to in order to fight off all hints of potential spoilers in a valiant effort to preserve the sacred story line? Then you put that special game in your disc tray. And played. And stopped. All before reaching that elusive final achievement of the point of completion.

What makes you stop playing a game that you truly enjoy before you finish the campaign? What could possibly be so bad that you lose your passion for finding out how the story ends? For me, that answer is something as simple as a save system.

The world is full of stereotypes. For some reason people love taking large groups of people and then assuming they all share the same basic characteristics. We are subjected to stereotyping based on everything from gender to race to religion to particular interests we are passionate about. How many times have you been confronted with generalizations people make about gamers that couldn’t be farther from the truth? I thought I would take some stereotypical statements about gamers from various articles around the internet and see how close to home they land. Do I fit the stereotype? Do I break the mold? We are about to find out.

I play a plethora of different video games within several different genres. You will often catch me ogling Master Chief’s bulky cod piece as I battle the ferocious and nasty Covenant while playing Halo 3. Sometimes you will catch me fretting away to Guitar Hero III late into the night, humming the tune Hit Me with Your Best Shot while I become one with my plastic guitar shaped controller. In the afternoon I can usually be found wandering the land of Puzzle Quest, casting spells and battling monsters while saving up ungodly amounts of gold that I will never spend. Lately you probably haven’t seen me play anything but American Idol Karaoke where I have been busy competing in season after season, proving to Simon and the rest of the world that I deserve to be the American Idol for the tenth time in a row. Apparently I’m a star, who knew?
