Master Chief Goes Victorian with this Halo Steampunk Helmet

Steampunk Halo Helmet

There is something inexplicable about the innate allurement of modern utilitarian objects adorned with Victorian design elements. The last time we saw this mechanical “steampunk” style was on an Xbox 360 controller, and now, thanks to Christophe, we have the pleasure of seeing something Halo-related redesigned in the same popular trend. A project that, from visualization to fruition, spanned almost two months, this Halo steampunk helmet was more than worth both the time and effort. Christophe used plumbing PVC pipe and four layers of acrylic and spray paint as the tangible materials, but he says the recurring theme was failure and then numerous retries until something worked. Thankfully he stuck with it though because I’m pretty sure Master Chief could go diving in this thing. And needless to say, that will definitely come in handy when I meet him.

A Body Painted (and Glowing!) Cortana

Body Painted CortanaDoug Appel is a gamer who is particularly passionate about Halo, and his girlfriend is a model who enjoys moonlighting at a haunted house. When they heard about Ohio’s Midwest Haunters Convention and its annual Body Art Fashion Show, only one thing came to both of their minds: Cortana. Grateful for the opportunity to bring everybody’s favorite holographic construct to life, they first had to decide which adaptation of the AI they wanted to recreate in this rather unconventional art form. Opting to go with the purple Halo: CE and 2 version, they grabbed talented artists Jackie Steinert and Jason McCollum and immediately went to work.

Because the contest had a black light theme, they started by covering the model with a base coat of UV reactive paint. Once that layer had been airbrushed on her, they carefully sketched out the detailed parts of the data with a non-UV violet (which gave a brilliant and intense contrast effect under the electromagnetic radiation-emitting lights). Seven hours and several tired limbs later, their body painted Cortana was finally complete. Full nude paintings were not allowed due to the rules, but ultimately the entire four-person team was pleased with the results they achieved, especially considering the suboptimal presence of both pasties and a thong.

There are a plethora of pictures, including some of the painting process, awaiting your presence after the jump, but be warned they contain an almost nude model wearing little beyond liquid color. That’s a bad thing if you’re at work, but it’s a good thing for the rest of us. Quit your job, close your door, or put a protective barrier around your monitor, then get to checking out the beautiful, purple Cortana. She’s worth more than a few minutes of your time. Trust me on that.

A Noble Set of Incredible Halo Clay Figures

Halo Clay Figures

The last time we devoured the awesomeness that is the continually growing collection of miniature, Halo-themed clay figures, many of you were quick to demand more Noble Team. Not being one to disappoint, Antithesis decided to step up his game and produce just that. His most recent batch (which includes a superbly sculpted Carter-A259 and Emile-A239 along with a custom VI-ETS Security Guard Spartan and Sangheili Exemplar) is sure to leave your loins aching for more Halo: Reach. Unfortunately that is one itch that won’t get scratched until September so until then, I’m hoping the following pictures will get you through. Grab a sock, an apple pie, or your Mjolnir Mark VI helmet, and hit the jump. Just don’t hit it too hard. That poor hand needs a break every now and again you know.

Grin + Bear It: Prepared for Drop

Every so often a web comic hires the talents of another artist to create a guest strip. Usually they are an unknown, optimistic newbie trying to get some publicity for their skills. Luke seems to have forgotten this though. This week’s Grin + Bear It comes to you from an established Halo comic creator whom you all know and love. Enjoy!
