The Halo Periodic Table
December 10, 2009 104 Comments
The periodic table is an elemental display of scientific awesomeness. The following inter-pretation is the Halo equivalent. Mimicking the wide layout with the inclusion of the f-block, this gorgeous video game-themed version features all the exact symbols with things born in the expansive Halo universe acting as substitutions for the original chemicals. This project has been my baby for nine very long months now with graphic designer Halcylon (also known as John Stvan) actively working on it for the past four. I focused on content while he worked magic with the visuals and now you get to enjoy the fruit of our labor. I just used the words baby and labor in consecutive sentences. Lawlz. If you’re still reading this instead of ogling the beauty that is the Halo Periodic Table, you deserved the bad joke. Now go choose your preferred size out of the six available and begin dissecting this monstrous piece of art!

*A key with all the symbols and what they stand for along with the individual images in downloadable form will be made available on 12.15.09. Until then, let the guessing begin!

Nice, very nice…
Ra is clearly Rapist…
My god you are a moron.
saved! ^_^ that so badass angel and halcylon! my new wallpaper for FOREVER!
I think I found angel’s favorite: Cd = Codpiece :P
I think the first person to correctly guess all of the symbols meanings should get a cookie.
I think I have them all down, except maybe one or two….that would be a long post to list them all though…
A few of them are tricky. After selecting all the included words, sitting down and visually representing them became a challenge I didn’t foresee. What we wanted image-wise wasn’t always available, or isn’t necessarily something tangible. So those are perhaps a bit more complicated than the others. I’m sure somebody will get all of them though. :)
I think if you end up doing a pixel map that pops up the meaning of each one when its hover over, that it will be really cool.
yeah that would be good, just instead of anything being a link it was just the title, i could do that if i knew the definition of what everything was
You’ll have to wait until next week.
*faps*
angel, I spiez with ma little eyez your hidden message to Hal. Isn’t he just the best? :)
Considering how many impossible requests I made of him during approximately 120 days, I’d say that man deserves a medal!
Or a sammich.
I think we all owe u several sammiches for ur help. What would u like in yours?
And of course thanks to BS angel also. Great work u 2
Awesome work, kudos to both of you.
isnt it wierd that the 7th group is called halogens, There is the element br in it, And if you go all the way down, the number of the element is 117?
What an interesting coincidence! ;)
I would not be surprised if bsangel had gone back in time to edit the periodic table while it was being created, just so she could put that tribute in.
Wow. Bungie should see this.
I would be quite surprised by that….
*lifts jaw off floor*
Oh….my….god….
Its so beautiful…I don’t know what else to say…
o_O
U need say nothing. Just look… and fap
FAP LIKE YOU’VE NEVER FAPPED BEFORE!
Awesome! Nice job guys.
Very Impressive, well done. You may have a cookie for your efforts. ^_^
I love how used Hayabusa for Noob (Nb).
Lol. We had to really think about this one… like “camping” or other phrases, “n00b” was a tough one to show graphically.
A camping chair would have worked well.
Argh, i can’t look at this without tryign to find correspondence between the actual element and the thing pictured! Damn you science!
The video game periodic table game was one of my favorites.
So…when are you guys going to make another table explaining this one?
Regardless, I get most of them. Awesome work, guys.
The individual tiles and what they stand for will be released next Tuesday. :)
I think I just found my new desktop. I like how “CE” is Halo original.
One thing, where did you get the “Halo Manual” font?
I’m really glad to see the finished product. Excellent work!
Science will never be the same…I would also bet money that in a few weeks, we see some kid’s middle school chemistry test with these items as the answers…. I can hardly wait!!!
Absolutely gorgeous, hilarious, and educational all at the same time!!!

Woot !! Awesome you two :D
Phew! Its done :) This, by far, was one of the largest projects I’ve ever worked on and completed. I’m so thrilled that it actually came to fruition and didn’t fizzle out. There were plenty of times where I could tell we hit road blocks, but bs angel just kept right on trucking with the ideas and content.
Thanks to all who commented and enjoyed this. I had a blast. I’m incredibly proud of how this turned out.
Thank you, angel, for letting me help you on this.
Good job…
Both of you…
I hate to be the dick who says this, angel and halcylon, but Lanthanum and Actinium have been switched in their d-bock positions. La should be between Barium (Ba) and Hafnium (Ha), and Actinium should be between Radium (Ra) and Rutherfordium (Rf). Yes they are faded out there because of the fact that they can go in either the d-block or f-block, but they’re still in the wrong places.
If you can post your source, we can look into it. We used three tables to accurately place these.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Periodic_table
http://www.webelements.com/
etc.
Any google search of “periodic table of the elements” will show you that Lanthanum has an atomic number of 57 (thusly going after Barium, which has an atomic number of 56) and Actinium has an atomic number of 89 (thusly going after Radium, which has an atomic number of 88). They’re placed correctly in the f-block at the bottom; it’s in their transition metal, or d-block, positions that they’re wrong.
Sorry if that came off as rude; I haven’t had much sleep recently studying for finals and whatnot.
It did, but you may need to get sleep. We have them placed after the same elements on the table you referenced, which was the same one we used.
Sorry, but on yours it goes -Ba-Ac-Hf- and then below it -Ra-La-Rf-. Looking at Wikipedia it goes -Ba-La-Hf- and then -Ra-Ac-Hf-.
i c wat u did thar
That’s all you got? That the transparent tiles are backwards? Go get some more sleep then look at it again! I fully expected a more significant error than that somewhere. :)
Ha, don’t worry, everything else was (and still is) perfect :)
Yeah? :fingers crossed:
I honestly made the assumption some errors would be made. Sometimes no matter how many times you go over everything, you still don’t catch some of the most glaringly obvious mistakes. Thanks for letting us know about the swap btw. It’s been corrected. :)
Awesome, great work.

I was wondering when you were going to get this up. I figured we would be treated to a very simple white periodic table, but this thing is so freaking awesome. Great work, definitely worth the wait.
Ununseptium for Master Cheif… rofl
(atomic number is 117)
I loved K, Au, No, and a bunch others. 5 stars.
OH NOW I GET IT.
When I saw Chief by the Uus thing I was like WTF?
I’m glad you guys finally got to finishing this.
Plus, you took my suggestion for UnUnSeptium to heart! :D
That’s one of my favorite tiles, are you kidding me?! That suggestion was subtly brilliant. :)
Yeah, honestly I had to think about that and check the chart. Incredible suggestion.
So who’s got them all figured out?!
I do!!
Cheater :)
I lol’d irl at Rb.
“Hold RB to flip… wait, what? How did you do that?”
I’m glad that these are making sense!!!
*facepalm* I can’t believe I didn’t get that!
Awesome!
I got all but 2, and it’s because I’m not really sure about my answers. I was really expecting to see “Your mom” for the “Ho” one and a picture of Halcylon next to “Bk”. But alas, I didn’t make the table.
My personal favorites, and ones I think few will get? “Ti” and “Dy”. I immediately knew them and it brought a smile to my face.
I guess I’ll just have to wait to find out the 2 I’m missing =(

http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2029337&id=1034682473&l=fd4491a052
this is my incomplete version
Good job! I’m curious how many elements we chose the same Halo item for. :)
I find it disturbing that Carbon Fluoride would be a “bond” between Cortana and the Flood. 0_o
This is BRILLIANT! :D i got a few of them, but i missed a lot of them :S
also ag: Agincourt?? (im not sure how to spell it, but it was one of the UNSC ships)… further to that… :D good job :D
I think this is awesome!!! Thank you bs angel for creating my new wallpaper.
lols ban hammer
Mah new wall paper on mah computer!
Oh wow! I actually had totally forgotten about this. Looks great!
Excellent Job also!
So much win. Truly epic.
This is Awesome! Now Chemistry got a lot more fun. :D
V = Vagina?… i think u guys got it wrong… Dares a man.
V = Veronica.
If this were the real Periodic Table, I would have paid attention in Chemistry. As it is, this is so amazing that I stopped watching Star Wars to look at it in it’s glory.
But why are there two “Ac”s? Is one representing the actual camo item, and the other what it does?
*its. I hang my head in shame.
The f-block, baby! Woo!!! :P
lol, is there one in iPhone size?
XD
This would totally not work as an iphone wallpaper :)
Nice one, Halcyclon!
A=Arrow?
What? There is no element “A” and none of the elements whose symbols start with “A” look like arrows.

Why is Ar not an Assault Rifle?
Because in my opinion, the Arbiter is a more crucial component in the Halo universe than the assault rifle.
You could have included Copernicium (formerly Ununbium), although it won’t be officially given that name until next month.

Very nice overall. I can see a lot of effort went into it.
:O :O :O
I just found this browsing the Interwebz, and thought I should bring it back here and give you guys the link pointlessly.

It surprised me, that’s all :/
I love Gear Fuse! :)
