the shotgun may just be one of the best weapons on L4D… so the zombie part is right… i too respectfully disagree about the usefullness in other games… many people would agree with this graph…(not me)
1. The Terrible Shotgun, or 2480 damage by any other name would be as sweet.
2. SPAS-12 from Half-Life 2. Secondary fire FTW!
3. M90 CAWS wielded by Sarge. Now where’s Grif?
Uh… have you used the shotgun in Modern Warfare? That thing is like a sniper, you shoot someone from 50 yards away and they’re meat chunks.
So I disagree with the Call of Duty portion, but everything else is pretty much good

In Half-Life, shotgun is my primary weapon. That thing owns Combine like… well… a Combine store. Or something.
Double barreled shotgun in Half Life 2 is extremely satisfying.

You’d be surprised how useful the shotgun in Team Fortress 2 can be.
Agreed, on some classes the shotgun is the only “regular” weapon. (aka not a class-specific weapon, pistol, melee weapon, etc.) Pyro’s shotgun rapes.
I’ve had days where, as an engie, my ammount of shotgun kills exceeds that of my sentry.
I like using the shotgun in a couple of CoD World at War’s Russian campaign levels. Being able to blow off arms is always a classy touch.
We prefer not to be called ‘Shotguns’; the Politically Correct term is “Short-Ranged Yet Equally Useful Weapons”.

Alright you usually need a long-range weapon as well but the shotgun is ALWAYS awsome!
I own in Call of Duty with a shotgun. Those things got range there!
The shotgun on Gears 2 has insanely long range, so it’s pretty useful.
In mass effect you can effectively snipe enemies with a shotgun, and 75% of the time they’ll fall down or at least be knocked back.
Ah, yes, fond memories of knocking people back over the edge during the Thorian mission…

Personally, I’d have to say the most satisfying shotgun to use in a game is from Bioshock. Put two wheels on that thing and it’s a CANNON! Haha!
