I’ve rarely had any gender-related insults on Xbox Live – mainly due to the fact my gamertag doesn’t instantly assume I’m female but in my profile my real name is on there. I’ve witnessed other girls on Halo getting abuse and it’s hilarious to see them kick the abusers ass over and over in game. I also remember a few months back in the lobby for Big team slayer that there was a girl (her gamertag was Stephanie or something similar) had a 50 and some douchebag on the other team saying, “Come on Stephanie, be honest with us – how fat are you?” I do admit it was said with some hilarity but it still is incredibly immature.
It’s a shame some gamers think video games are purely for one gender and some are just outright sexist. I’m just glad that most gamers are glad for the gender mix on video games and that pie chart couldn’t be any more correct or amusing.

While I agree these kinds of attitudes are bullshit, I don’t see this is a “Xbox live’ or even a ‘gamer’ problem. Its a problem that pervades a large portion of people, centered on youth but not exclusively. It’s the anonymity that brings it out in these (already annoying) people. Even then, I only say ‘centered on youth’ because they have a disproportionate usage of the internet/anonymity.
personally as a male, i’m always fairly happy to come across girl gamers who enjoy the games i do. i like the diversity of the xbox live community.
i’m fairly appreciative of it actually as it was the final straw to convince my fiancée (who now can kick my ass at halo) to start playing some of the games i enjoyed as it WAS socially acceptable. She always was weary of the hazing like is described above, she now just take it in stride and usually has some witty remark to make back

Getting insults is a very common thing for me once players find out I am a girl. I am a magnet for jerks :( I have repeatedly hammered these guys into the ground with kills, and trash talk. They say it was their teams fault or if they see that they are losing the verbal match, they turn it around and start hitting on me. WTF! Are they jealous of my gold bars? LOL! A lot of guys can’t take into account that there are girls that play better than them. It has gotten to the point that I don’t even talk on the mike unless I am in a group with close friends/ family.
On the other hand, there are some nice guys out there, but they are far and few in between.
Yeah, one of my mates is a gamer girl, and she gets shit all the time. The best part is she’s better than 90% of the guys I know, me included a lot of the time.
Normally when theres a girl in the game all the guys are trying to play it cool, and not be sexist bastards, as if this one female gamer will suddenly fall head over heels in lust with the first guy not to insult her on xbox live, the first guy in a match of halo to ask her how her day’s been.

God’s Honest Truth, the 6 years I’ve been playing Xbox Live, I’ve only met 4 girls. And they were all awesome. And were pretty good at getting that Warthog to spin just the right way.
Ive found this kind of thing to be true too. But I think that its the result of these attitudes. Most of the girls that will let their sex be known are the really good ones. If a girl can’t beat the crap out of the guys, or be able to dish out as much as she receives (verbally or in game), then either she stops playing online, or never uses mic to reveal her sex.

I don’t know about you guys, but the last time I was matched with a girl gamer in a social skirmish match, three things happened that I didn’t understand.
1) some guy with a british accent on the other team complimented the girl and I, and the girl started bitching about him being a sexist, even though his comment seemed completely neutral.
2) the girl started bitching at me for suggesting a co-ordinated attack, betrays me, then complains about how I wasn’t there to attack.
3) A girl gamer on the other team plugged in her mic on the other team, to talk about an awesome kill post-game, and the “bitchy” girl on my team claimed that other girl was a dyke.
it was a wierd contrast compared to the situations we always hear about, but I guess everyone wants to be mean some-days, and being anonymous on a tuesday is a perfect setup.
I gamed it up with the non-bitchy girl for a few fun games, and found out that she plays soccer, halo, L4D, and snowboarding almost zealously. Turns out that she’s Canadian too, (surprise surprise!) but from a different province.
when it comes to the girls I know personally, they all love to game, but they also suck, and are proud of said skills, thats why ActionSack is the best playlist evar, because they have a chance to win in most games.
Another thing that bothers me is why people assume that fat people are always ugly, I mean, my last girlfriend weighed roughly 30 pounds more than I do, (i’m about 160) but her body holds fat in a way that does make her look more attractive (in my opinion) than now where she’s lost weight, I don’t know how much she is now, but I think that being really skinny doesn’t suit her very well.

I sometimes find it hard to tell the difference between the 10 year olds boys and actual girls.
99% of the girl gamers I’ve played with are great in-game and cool to hang with, but usually get crap from other player online.
Examples:
-Guy is SUPER nice to girl thinking he might be able to go out with(not really caring they just met plus the distance)
-Guy gets friends in his party to be total asses to the girl then he acts nice to “get the girl.”
-Guy just acts like a total dick.
It’s sad that girl gamers have to deal with sort of crap.

While girls can be more understanding to that sort of thing- mostly because of socialization- there is a serious lack of it on the male side- again, mostly because of socialization. Currently I can think of only one time I’ve said that, and that was after being teabagged by one of the enemy team. I respawned, ran up behind him, shouted it into the microphone, and assassinated him with the the butt of my magnum. I didn’t think I needed to teabag after that, so I didn’t bother.
Sexism in general sucks. But that’s why there’s several genders, right? So they can start a war and call one another names over XBL. I must say, though, I thoroughly enjoy beating the shit out of people who think I must be a pushover because of my gender, whether they take me for a girl or a boy.
Huh. Well, everytime I play with anyone, I base comments on SKILL, not SEX. Geezis Christmas, if I had a couple of ‘backs for every slur about girl [gamers], I could buy Mars and the Asteroid Field. I mean, two of the best players I know (currently on my friends list, anyway) are girls.
So, meh. Screw you sexist pigs, thank you considerate ppl, and go Girl Gamers. W00T.
Also, I laughed at a comment to a website that I can’t remember for the life of me, but it went something like:
DICK: You suck balls.
Girl Gamer: Well, I’m a girl, so I have an excuse. Your a guy, so when YOU do it, you’re just gay.

I don’t know about you guys, but the last time I was matched with a girl gamer in a social skirmish match, three things happened that I didn’t understand.
1) some guy with a british accent on the other team complimented the girl and I, and the girl started bitching about him being a sexist, even though his comment seemed completely neutral.
2) the girl started bitching at me for suggesting a co-ordinated attack, betrays me, then complains about how I wasn’t there to attack.
3) A girl gamer on the other team plugged in her mic on the other team, to talk about an awesome kill post-game, and the “bitchy” girl on my team claimed that other girl was a dyke.
it was a wierd contrast compared to the situations we always hear about, but I guess everyone wants to be mean some-days, and being anonymous on a tuesday is a perfect setup.
I gamed it up with the non-bitchy girl for a few fun games, and found out that she plays soccer, halo, L4D, and snowboarding almost zealously. Turns out that she’s Canadian too, (surprise surprise!) but from a different province.
when it comes to the girls I know personally, they all love to game, but they also suck, and are proud of said skills, thats why ActionSack is the best playlist evar, because they have a chance to win in most games.
Another thing that bothers me is why people assume that fat people are always ugly, I mean, my last girlfriend weighed roughly 30 pounds more than I do, (i’m about 160) but her body holds fat in a way that does make her look more attractive (in my opinion) than now where she’s lost weight, I don’t know how much she is now, but I think that being really skinny doesn’t suit her very well.
