Halo 1 still has amazing graphics if you imagine how long ago it was made. The story line is much better than that of Halo 2 and 3 combined and… MAGNUM.
This is incredibly true if you watched Transformers 2… What a fucking piece of trash! Gangter Robots? Please hang the one stupid dude who had this idea.
To be honest, I actually almost didn’t watch the movie after seeing the Burger King commercial with them. Not to mention that surral moment when Sideswipe actually says “Punk-ass Decepticons.”
Overlord got an entirely pointless sequel. Meanwhile, I’m still waiting for Kickle Cubicle, Berzerk and Thexder remakes. Why is there no justice in this world?!
Honestly I don’t read nearly as much as I used to, and I never read any series except Harry Potter (though I never read the last book), so I can’t really say anyhting about book sequels being as good.
Video games, eh. It depends on the series I think, as well as people’s opinions on what makes game “good.” I liked Kotor II as much as I liked Kotor I, but I know people who hate Kotor II. They say it’s unfinished and broken, but while I’m inclined to agree with that, I also liked the content that was there. Warcraft III blows (IMO) compared to Warcraft II. And it has nothing to do with the fact that they fucked up the death knights in 3 >.>. I felt less drawn into the story with WC3. Halo 2 I thought was better than Halo 3, because I enjoyed the story more. I don’t care as much about graphics in games.
Movies, for the most part I agree, the sequel tends to suck and blow. Or at least make me say “You know, it could’ve been good, but there was something missing in this one that was in the first one…”
It’s 1%. The bar is slightly risen up, rather than flat.
So that 1% contains The Dark Knight, the Godfather 2, Terminator 2, Toy Story 2, and Star Trek II.
Game sequels CAN suck, but luckily we get MANY great sequels.
Metal Gear, Mario, Zelda, Grand Theft Auto, Half-Life, God of War, Halo, and many, MANY other franchises have great sequels.
I hate to constantl;y harp on this point, but someone please show me a good Sonic game after the Genesis. I mean come on, just make a 2D-3D blend with all the new characters, focus on the speed and FOR GOD’S SAKE, NO COMBAT SYSTEM!!! And while we’re at it, give Crash back to Naughty Dog, give Spyro back to Insomniac and SOMEONE PLEASE TAKE FROGGER OUT OF THOSE FREAKING OVERALLS!!! *starts to pant* Whew. I’m sorry. I got a little out of hand there.
Eh. Godfather Part II, Before Sunset (I’m a Linklater fan), Aliens, Die Hard 2, The Dark Knight and Toy Story 2 were all very worthy sequels.
Books are pretty hit or miss. Most literature snobs will tell you that the best books shouldn’t have sequels. I can’t think of a book (off the top of my head, I apologize to the internet in advance) that started out as a one-time thing and then became a series because of public reaction. Harry Potter was supposed to be a series. Speaker for the Dead was planned before Ender’s Game was written.
Games are probably the most varied in terms of sequel quality.
Personally, I don’t think the Campaign ever returned to it’s former glory found in Halo 1. Halo 3 gave it a good bash, but ultimately failed. Having a timer at the end of Halo 1 was much more stressful than ‘slowly falling platforms… OF DEATH’. Why not combine both?
I agree to an extent. Most video games just should not be made into movies. The ones that could be decent movies are never made into such, but the shitty ones are. Doesn’t make sense to me …
A lot of games just can’t work as movies due to the number of choices a player is faced, whether it’s which way to go, what to say, or what they will do. And also the fact of how to really make a good movie based upon a game where say, the main character is never truly shown. Doom, for all the crap it did, did try to at least experiment with the first person perspective, but failed miserably because it doesn’t work for a movie. That and it was generally poorly made.
Give Far Cry 2 a go, it has a crap ending, but up to that is good. Rent it, maybe?
Agree with T2, Terminator sucked, Terminator 3 sucked, I haven’t seen the last one, but statistics (<this way<) show that it will suck too.
Let me list a few of my recent and upcoming reads.
The Temeraire Series – Naomi Novik
His Dark Materials – Philip Pullman
The Wheel of Time Series – Robert Jordan
The Dark Tower – Stephen King
Harry Potter – J.K. Rowling
The Mars Trilogy – Kim Stanley Robinson
The Lord of The Rings – JRR Tolkien
Perhaps not great literature in the classic (stick your nose in the air) sense; but not good books?
Even Homer gave us a sequel when he wrote “The Odyssey”. I don’t think anyone is arguing about that being a poor follow-up or “The Iliad” being somehow less because of it.
Lords of the rings I mentioned a few comments up.
Harry potter is debatable. I don’t care for them.
Dark Tower went downhill after the 5th book.
Haven’t heard of any of the others.
And homer? I suppose that’s relevant but I had modern literature in mind.
The harry potter books were bad but have gotten only better since the first one. Lord of the rings is good. And Robert Jordan is my hero. He’s does great character development. Another good author is George R. R. Martin and his Song Of Ice and Fire series. He developers characters but kills them quite swiftly and violently afterwards.
Also, video game sequels/trequels/whatever that fail:
Kingdom hearts 2
Burnout Paradise
Third generation of pokemon (Ruby/Sapphire)
The new Turok
Banjo Kazooie nuts and bolts
Most anything Tomb Raider
I think it will do good, I really enjoyed Bioshock 1 because of the scripted events. But playing as a Big Daddy will definitely give it a new flavor that separates it from a run of the mill FPS (not that BS1 was, but it had cliche’ qualities.)
MILF Hunter 2 was terrible compared to the original. I mean come on, lose the Croc Hunter accents for crying out loud fellas!!!! The lighting was horrible. I don’t even think half those women were actually moms!!!! Is it too much to ask for a decent plot?
Who am I kidding, I like my porn stright to the climax just as much as the next guy!
Back To The Future is the most well contained trilogy in my opinion, Lord of the Rings doesn’t really count, because they’re based off of three books.
I am glad that the third Splinter Cell book was made by a different author, with a much needed different story. Thinking of Sam being a James Bond clone and shaking it up with the ladies gives me an unneeded twitch. I haven’t read the Bourne books, but a fourth one seems extremely stupid. Especially after watching the commercial for the book.
I liked Halo 1′s levels, they were unique and repayable (except for Library >_<). Halo 2 had awesome dialogue, I loved Truth's original voice, especially when he's giving a dialogue in High Charity. But the levels were not as fun and only few begged to be replayed over and over again. It was an interesting game that brought new things to the table, but left things that I loved. Halo 3 seemed to forget some of the awesome things from the first 2 games. It didn't bring many new things, just more vehicles and weapons, and the equipment. The levels were extremely linear, and it seemed to rely more on cinematic. Sure the levels were beautiful, but they were short and too few. And Truth's voice bugs me too much, being all deep and old sounding. My friend says that Halo 3 is Halo 1 on steroids, that may be, but they were steroids that were watered down.
Agree. Halo 2 was better than Halo 1. Halo 3 and 2 tie except 2 had better plot while 3 has better graphics, weapons, and multiplayer. :)
Halo 1 still has amazing graphics if you imagine how long ago it was made. The story line is much better than that of Halo 2 and 3 combined and… MAGNUM.
THANK YOU!!!
This is incredibly true if you watched Transformers 2… What a fucking piece of trash! Gangter Robots? Please hang the one stupid dude who had this idea.
Aww, I liked the twins. They were a part of the comedic relief.
To be honest, I actually almost didn’t watch the movie after seeing the Burger King commercial with them. Not to mention that surral moment when Sideswipe actually says “Punk-ass Decepticons.”
I didn’t have as much of a problem with the twins as I did the immature humor of dog humping, leg humping, and genitalia in general.
“Games that need sequels: 15%”
“Games that get sequels: 95%”
Overlord got an entirely pointless sequel. Meanwhile, I’m still waiting for Kickle Cubicle, Berzerk and Thexder remakes. Why is there no justice in this world?!

In my opinion, nearly all Harry Potter books after the first were better. Then again, I didn’t read the last one, I just looked it up on Wikipedia.
Wow, I really shouldn’t type without my glasses on. Sorry about the typos.
Halo 3 is the exact same as Kotor II… Some people hate it (BLASPHEMY!), and the plot is a little unfinished…
Can’t tell if the movie is at 1% or 0%. If it’s 1%, then we all know which movie it is…
*cough*The Dark Knight*cough*
Agreed!
It’s 1%. The bar is slightly risen up, rather than flat.
So that 1% contains The Dark Knight, the Godfather 2, Terminator 2, Toy Story 2, and Star Trek II.

As for books… who reads anymore?
me, me….
i still read, honest, i promise….
but then i knit as well
I still read! Just not as often as I used to. :)
I hate to constantl;y harp on this point, but someone please show me a good Sonic game after the Genesis. I mean come on, just make a 2D-3D blend with all the new characters, focus on the speed and FOR GOD’S SAKE, NO COMBAT SYSTEM!!! Also, Kid Icarus needs a remake! And stop making Luigi look gay! I have no problem with homosexuals, but come on!
I admit I liked Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast. -.-
… Okay, I’ll give you that.
So the dark knight was bad??? thats news to me. Most sequels are great i reckon just don’t get me started on prequels -cough- starwars -cough-
I actually liked Episode III, but the other two were crap.
I will now kill the only person I care about… WITH MY POWER! (which you underestimate)
I had to happen like that and since i’m a starwars fan i do like it but its a big disapointment
Eh. Godfather Part II, Before Sunset (I’m a Linklater fan), Aliens, Die Hard 2, The Dark Knight and Toy Story 2 were all very worthy sequels.

Agree with the part about books, but not the video games part. Movie part i am not sure of.
Halo 2 was definately inferior to Halo 1
Personally, I don’t think the Campaign ever returned to it’s former glory found in Halo 1. Halo 3 gave it a good bash, but ultimately failed. Having a timer at the end of Halo 1 was much more stressful than ‘slowly falling platforms… OF DEATH’. Why not combine both?
The platforms were kind of timed; stayed on it too long, and it would fall away.
But considering they were behind you, there was not much tension as you couldn’t even see them if you were doing it right.
I agree, Halo CE’s campaign has yet to be topped.
Book sequels >>>>>>> everything else.
Halo, Gears, etc. are exceptions. Look at pokemon. Great until the new ones.
Book sequels are great, though. i mean, look at Artemis Fowl, the Gatekeeper series, His Dark Materials… and so on.
And movie sequels suck. Almost always.
I agree to an extent. Most video games just should not be made into movies. The ones that could be decent movies are never made into such, but the shitty ones are. Doesn’t make sense to me …
Hey, House of the Dead could have been an awesome movie if it wasn’t done by Uwe Boll.
You know, I was going to bring up Uwe Boll, but the thought of him made me throw up a little.
Oh Bloodrayne… how my dreams were crushed with you.
Bioshock movie, coming soon.
no,no,no, please no

Never played Far Cry 2, but the fact that they took out the Evolution element made me not want to play it.
The Twilight series should have stopped at production; all subsequent books are terrible.
Hey, Terminator 2 was better than 1! The last two…don’t exist. >_>
Give Far Cry 2 a go, it has a crap ending, but up to that is good. Rent it, maybe?
Agree with T2, Terminator sucked, Terminator 3 sucked, I haven’t seen the last one, but statistics (<this way<) show that it will suck too.
Truly good books don’t have sequels.
Well okay, terry pratchett stuff can be excepted.
Truly good books don’t have sequels? Really?
Let me list a few of my recent and upcoming reads.
The Temeraire Series – Naomi Novik
His Dark Materials – Philip Pullman
The Wheel of Time Series – Robert Jordan
The Dark Tower – Stephen King

Dark Tower went downhill after the 5th book.
Haven’t heard of any of the others.
And homer? I suppose that’s relevant but I had modern literature in mind.
try the Coyote series by Allen Steele – I think they were written as a series
The harry potter books were bad but have gotten only better since the first one. Lord of the rings is good. And Robert Jordan is my hero. He’s does great character development. Another good author is George R. R. Martin and his Song Of Ice and Fire series. He developers characters but kills them quite swiftly and violently afterwards.

Paradise was okay and tombraider underworld was ok. But your right
I think you also forgot RE5 in that list. I was willing to put up with 4 because Leon was lulzy.
5′s one saving grace was seeing shirtless Wesker in HD before the final bossfight. Other than that, it was probably the worst of the series.
In all honesty, I think that while Bioshock 2 will be fun, it just won’t be the same as its percussor.
I think it will do good, I really enjoyed Bioshock 1 because of the scripted events. But playing as a Big Daddy will definitely give it a new flavor that separates it from a run of the mill FPS (not that BS1 was, but it had cliche’ qualities.)
The second Austin Powers movie is better then the first and the third.
Some books desperately need sequels. Melanie Rawn I’m looking at you and pointing to the Ambrai series while burning your house down.
Captal’s Tower FTW…
Know what else needs a sequel?
A Feast for Crows. I do wish George RR Martin would hurry up with it, I’m having withdrawal symptoms.
Actually, I thought the remake of Cloverfield, Cleavagefield, was a lot more entertaining ;)
I think there should be a graph:
How Many Books/Games Need a Sequal That is a Movie (that won’t suck like most sequals of the film medium)?
Beverly Hills Cop 1 and 2 were awesome. The 3rd one doesn’t exist though. >.>
Personally, I prefer books that are in a series because they continue on with the story.
The Empire Strikes Back, Aliens, T2, The Godfather Part II…I digress.
Back To The Future is the most well contained trilogy in my opinion, Lord of the Rings doesn’t really count, because they’re based off of three books.
