Turning Halo 3 Screenshots Into Art
June 11, 2009 32 Comments
I have a thing for Halo 3 screenshots. While I can’t take one worth a darn, I definitely appreciate them more than the average person. I don’t discriminate either. I love scenic screenshots, I love inappropriate screenshots, I love special effects screenshots, and I even fancy some Forge art every now and again. My passion runs so deep that I have an entire website dedicated just to those Halo 3-related images. That is why when I heard about haloscreenshots.com, a new site offering to turn those images into tangible pieces of art, I was more than a little excited. Sure, you’ve always been able to print your screenshots off yourself but the process is not a simple one and quality is typically lacking. Now, with a few simple clicks of your mouse, you can have somebody else do all the work for you. Let me tell you, laziness pays off sometimes.
The second I noticed that site, I began debating which screenshot I would order. The question wasn’t whether or not to make a purchase, it was simply a matter of deciding which particular one to buy. I finally opted to go with my highest rated screenshot, which also happens to be my favorite. While I typically forgo framing in circumstances such as these, I opted for that service because again, I’m lazy. I was concerned because often times the frame ends up being ridiculously cheap and not at all attractive, but that was certainly not the case this time around. When my print arrived, encased by a gorgeous custom frame crafted from premium wood stock, I was really quite impressed. From the frame (and the detailing on the back) to the matte to the print itself, everything was of the utmost quality. Prices seem expensive at first glance (framed prints start at $44.99) but once the product is in your hands, it is worth every cent and then some.
While transforming your screenshots into actual pieces of art does not come cheap (although keep in mind you can buy a print without a frame for only $16.99), it’s a great opportunity to indulge in some artwork to adorn your otherwise bare gaming room walls. It’s also an amazing gift idea for the Halo fanatic in your life as well. I recently purchased a framed print for a friend and upon opening his present he said, “This is so awesome! I could just do you right now!” Now that I think about it, I don’t even know if that comment was related to the gift. But I’m sure it played a part in there somewhere. The moral of the story? Buy a print, get some action. Or something like that.

I’ve thought about getting a print from them for a while now. Maybe I should. Yours looks great!
It’s beautiful. My pictures don’t even do it justice. I’m such a n00b with taking pictures that I was unable to capture a really good shot that didn’t have a glare in the glass from the light. I love mine though, so much!
I’m so glad you told me you bought this one… >_>
Well, now that I have an xbox again, I should let you tag along on one of my screenshot games.
:)
BTW, that print looks amazing.
I would totally get one, but I’m a cheap bastard.
;)
You should ask for one for your birthday or the holidays. You, of all people, would appreciate having this on your wall. :)
Lol, I probably wouldn’t get one of my own though.
It would be kinda weird.
;)
Maybe one of Dusty’s or a scenery picture from PaperThinWalls would be nice.
Don’t worry Sanders! I’ll buy you one!
I looked at the prices of their products and I was pleasantly surprised how inexpensive they are. They only have two frame choices but as long as they are made from a good quality wood species, then these should last a lifetime. Most picture frames available in stores are usually made from a very heavy form of plastic or some version of particleboard or MDF. Wood frames are much better and far lighter. Glass is much better the the premium acrylic glazing that offer but, creating a shipping package that would protect the glass would probably triple the shipping cost.
I had two rare Oregon Duck Stamp images put in custom frames with the best matting offered and I spent over $300 dollars for both to be framed, and this was almost 20 years ago.
Those are awesome.
But since I still live in my parents house, since college is 5 minutes away, I’ll never be able to hang one anywhere.
:(
Only you angel… you would get a picture that you took…
Just like you, I decided to grab one of these as soon as I saw the service announced…
My trouble with deciding on which one obviously surpasses yours, as I haven’t even started looking. I generally respect the amount of time that people put into their screens, and the fabulous results. My problem is that I can’t imagine paying for something like that on my wall. No matter how cool when browsing internet sites, I find most of the categories you point out to be boring and generic.
I don’t want a Spartan or Elite adorning my wall – no matter the special effect that adorns it. I don’t like the abstract, colorful or twisted screens I see everyday.
I think I prefer landscape shots, but I just can’t put my thumb on it :-(
How about on Ghost town, with some effects… look at the sun… =D
If you want some suggestions XMixMasterX, I know the b.net screenshot gallery better than the back of my hand. Just email me if you want any help. I can’t promise you that I would know a screenshot you would fall in low with, but I could maybe help point you in the right direction. :)
If you like landscape or scenery, look no further than PaperThinWalls.
Search his name on Bnet and you should find something you like.

Or, I could be more specific. II R II GEMINICE recently took a simply scenery picture that I have fallen in love with. I would totally get this for my empty walls. ;)

WOW TAHTS SO AWEOSME!
As awesome as the idea is, I really do not think it’s good when the shipping and delivers costs more than the product itself.
I’ve ordered a tshirt that was made in America before and the shipping was like, £3. I think $30+ for a picture is extortionate.
Sorry, no deal from me.
Shipping is a lot, no doubt about it. Personally I’m willing to pay that to ensure it shows up at my house in good condition. These are delicate products and thankfully are packed accordingly.
Ooooh Purty ^_^
I want one
Thats really nice :D!
I would get one if it were free lol.
Sounds pretty cool. Only $16.99 for a print you say? Well that’s only…
*Converts to real money*
£10.54
Not bad at all. I might get some for my newly decorated room.
You mean Euros. USD is the world wide standard.
I can’t believe the quality. Mine came a week ago and I still can’t stop staring at it!

I’m going to have to splurge and buy some Halo screenshot art. I’ve been a fan of taking screenshots and checking out the community’s creations from the launch of Halo 3.
I was on the fence before, but this has helped knock me off in the right direction. I love Halo, and I want anyone visiting to see evidence of that EVERYWHERE IN MY HOUSE!
I’m a hopeless nerd like that.
I have plans of covering all the walls of my gaming room with these prints so I completely understand. Our redecoration plans have only just begun!
I gotta say bs, im looking at the screenshots and your choice is one of the best, ,maybe even worth buying.
Wow, thanks!
I noticed there’s some copy on the prints that aren’t framed (or covered up by the matting). Can anyone tell me what it says? Is it the file name? Credit for the screenshot artist?
I’d like to get some unframed prints for my friends from our co-op run on launch day, but I want to make sure the words on the print are to my liking.
The prints have the website url on the bottom right, the Halo 3 logo bottom center, and the screenshot number bottom left. The legal jargon is at the very bottom in small print. All of that can be covered up by a frame if so desired. halo.bungie.org has a nice pic of the corner detail in their gallery: http://nikon.bungie.org/misc/hss_review/
Thanks, I really appreciate the help.
