Halo 3 Render-to-Video Public Beta
May 12, 2009 15 Comments

If your status as of yesterday was paid Bungie Pro subscriber, then you are officially a member of the Halo 3 Render-to-Video public Beta. If you let your account lapse but you were one of the early adopters of that particular premium service, you are also a member of the Halo 3 Render-to-Video public Beta. If you are someone who is simply giving it a test drive via the gratis Mythic Map Pack offer, grab your tissues now because you are shit out of luck. Along with laying out the specifics of who gets to participate, Bungie also recently released a slew of information about how exactly this service will work. The simplified version is that films will be converted by tools on Bungie.net to your choice of standard-def or HD video format, the purchase of which will be completed with “Bungie points.” I’m not even going to bother explaining the finer details because I know everybody has already run off to see if they qualify for the Beta or not. Don’t worry, it’s not like I wanted to talk about it more or anything, you ungrateful bastards.

Hah, and people said I was stupid for BUYING Bungie Pro all those months ago…
Look who’s stupid now!
ahaha!
ahhhaaahaahaha!!!
*Runs away laughing*
The standard def (technically the only option available right now) isn’t too bad. I’m not looking forward to potentially having to pay for Bungie Pro *and* Bungie Points to utilize this service, though.
Can’t wait for it to be released, glad I didn’t waste money on an hd capture card.
Meh. Don’t care. Not a video person. I don’t need no fancy HD graffix ‘n bun-jee points, y’hear?
I probaby won’t be putting any of my unimpressive clips up, but being able to watch others’ spectacular feats with no hassle sounds pretty awesome.
YEA! Damn right! How dare you waste our time with your petty articles!
Nah, you know I don’t mean a word of that.
Love ya Angel, stay awesome!
This is great though i won’t try it.
I love Bungie Pro, it is what is says
w00t! I already got my four videos rendered!
YAY i qualify, but i’m not going to use it!!!
i have been patiently(sorta) waiting for this since they first mentioned it. I bought a Capture card christmas 07 and the damn thing destroyed my computer (dazzle capture cards are not compatible with Vista yet… or ever… who knows) and i may not be the greatest player but i have had lots of ideas for funtages so im happy they finaly got this going… and i qualify… YAY!!! *overjoyed screech*
I just used it, and my sticks and no scopes never looked better!
One thing I don’t understand about the specififcs.
Do you need more points for longer films? or just 2 points for a lower def film and 5points for a higher def film?
If you need 1 point per minute as what I understood from late last night, then the points system sucks ass. I want my 20 odd minute video =/
Checked it out. Pretty cool and nicely integrated into the site. Right now the render times are pretty fast (seems to take about a minute or so, though if it’s done in realtime it may be slower for longer clips). Hopefully it’ll hold out well when the masses all have access.
Although I don’t really like the idea of having to pay for the service (or rather, be limited on how many I can do a month unless I buy more points for real money) I totally understand why. This kind of thing is expensive and difficult to implement, so some financial reimbursement is expected. Plus, it allows them to limit the amount of traffic their servers are getting. With the size of the Halo 3 community, a limiter is a good idea (plus they can always ease limits if they feel it’s appropriate).
Anyway, it’s very cool. Yay Bungie!
As much as I hate paying for additional services (I’m cheap, what can I say?!), can you imagine how many videos would be rendered if there were no associated charges? Everybody would render every single game they have ever played, probably the entirety of them at that! This will help people be more selective.
Here’s to hoping for a reasonable price structure. :)
Frugal. You’re frugal. :)
It would be ridiculous if one could render any video any time. You think there’s a lot of bad montages on YouTube now, imagine what it would be like with no limit? *shudder*
