At a recent excursion to the 7th Annual Emerald City ComiCon, a brief stroll to the in-house coffee shop resulted in an unexpected encounter. Standing outside of Subway awaiting some nourishment of the human variety was Master Chief. Well maybe not Master Chief but an equally delicious supersoldier sporting a CQB helmet. Known in the armor making community as FireStorm, to me he will always be known as “The Highlight of the Entire Fan Convention.” His suit, which was painted the familiar standard issue green, featured magnets on the inside of several of the pieces, allowing his Magnum (and various pieces of armor) to stay affixed to the costume without the typical visually apparent straps. Oh, and the picture of the two of us together where I look like I’m equally intimidated and infatuated? Feel free to caption or Photoshop it. I can take it, promise.
I wish I was as creative and/or as patient as the people who do these things.

That first pic makes it look teal, but the others all look more green-ish. I still think it’s a bit too blue. And bonus points for being something other than the mark VI helmet.

Just the handplates on this particular one are from Halo 2. Most of us are still updating our suits from Halo 2 to 3 one piece at a time. It’s a very expensive and time consuming hobby. Gotta do what we can do when we aren’t juggling work, school, girlfriends and family :).
