  1. Tentimook says:

Halo v Ocarina should be close anywhere else but on this blog, I put my money on the MC.

    • Doc says:

Halo vs OoT should be close, but not Halo 3… Sadly, I think one of the greatest games of all time is going to be knocked out this round

      • Aperture S says:

You’d think so but look at the results. Halo 3 is the clear winner

        • Scotty Bob says:

It’s such a tough decision….. in the end I had to go with the game I’m still playing!

        • Sten4sw says:

I think he meant OoT will be knocked out.

    • Qwepir says:

I agree. Putting a Halo character in a tournament on a Halo blog is going to result in a loss for everything else. As for my vote… I’ve never played OoT, so I’m voting for chief.

  2. BerserkerBarage says:

The fact that OoT will probably lose to Halo 3 is so far past ridiculous that I don’t know if I even feel like watching the rest of these match-ups.

There is no justifiable argument (IMO) that would say that Halo 3 is the better game than OoT.

There is a very very good reason why OoT is the highest rated video game EVER.

    • It’s a matter of taste. Fanboys(and girls) will be fanboys(and girls).

      • yea I hate to see a great game loose because of fanboys (girls).

Don’t get me wrong, I love halo, and play halo 3 all the time. But when it comes down to it, I loved playing Ocarina of Time so much, and ocarina was a godsend of a game that really made history. I actually wanted to play it through again in the upcoming weeks.

        • (Sorry to reply to myself, but I had a thought after submitting my reply.)

I wouldn’t be surprised if halo 3 (or at least halo) won the whole thing in the end. Think about it. It’s what most of us here play all the time. This may be a gaming blog, but most of the content revolves around halo (halo pr0nz, IH3SOTW, Friday fun captions are usually if not always halo 3 related, etc……)

Not to sound cruel or biased, I think maybe, just maybe, halo should have been omitted from the competition. It’s just too popular……….
But that’s just me. Maybe I’m just jealous that zelda won’t win……..

        • i pretty much agree with most of what you said there crazed… but ever since the release of H:CE, Halo’s been all i really play… and i really never had a connection with any other games like i do with the Halos. i have casually play other games in the past don’t get me wrong, but nothing came even close to the hours of my life in front of a tv with MC at the helm and cortana in my head.

i respect where video games came from and will never forget our roots, but that trilogy(ish) is still and always be on the top of my list of favorites and i would have been heartbroken if the Halos would have been omitted. i’m just torn between which one i love more.

i wish all these good games could win really… =’(

    • bs angel says:

Halo 3 recently passed the one billion games played mark, a distinction Halo 2 has still not achieved. In my opinion the primary reason behind that is that gaming is becoming more and more mainstream every day. So many more people game today than they did ten years ago, especially with the release of the Wii. So the results could be interpreted as a reflection upon all of those people that now inhabit this world that didn’t back when OoT was released.

      • PikminGod says:

        well played sir…well played

        • Shirdel7221 says:

Madam. (I think. After all, she is very… Not Madamly if you know what I mean ;)

  3. Araknoros says:

im left speachless and hurt. i dont know. i loved OoT but H3 has given me sandbox. i saw the choices and my brain and heart simultaneously exploded, i love zelda

  4. Das Kalk says:

i’m sorry, but as good as Halo 3 is, it doesn’t hold a candle to what ocarina of time did for video games. If you look at the Halo series as a whole, it is absolutely better than zelda, but Halo 3 alone cannot beat ocarina of time.

  5. John Stvan says:

Kotor is going to wind up in the final 4 against Halo 3… and I don’t know what to think or expect!

  6. Well, Starcraft may get knocked out by the bitch that is Samus Aran, but at least KotOR seems to be alive and well.

  7. Rhamsey says:

wow, halo vs ocarina in time, ive got to go with the n64 clasic on that one. Kotor FTW though.

  8. Goopyshrey says:

Seriously Halo vs Ocarina was tough I love halo but no one can beat Ocarina as the classic it is

  9. Mike says:

Mega Man 2 and Perfect Dark are in a pretty tight race at the moment, I wonder how that one’s going to turn out.

  10. Well my bracket is crushed. I had Ocarina of Time taking it all home. Based on his, I’m going to go ahead and say that Super Metroid and Goldeneye 64 won’t make it to the Final Four either…

    Damn.

  11. DethPwn says:

To say Ocarina was better then Halo 3 would be partially correct. There’s no doubt that based on today’s standards, Halo 3 is much better. However, that’s only because of all the technological luxuries at it’s disposal, such as Xbox Live, not to mention the incredible expansion gaming has seen since OoT came out. If you were to strip Halo 3 down to Campaign, Forge and Theater (which would all have been possible back then), plus the lack of gamers at that time, there’s no doubt who would reign supreme.

    • I disagree, Ocarina is still better than Halo 3. Where it falls short graphically and in in the multiplayer aspect, it still has a much better story and gameplay (sorry Bungie, it’s true). I still pick up OoT every few months and play it all the way through, and I doubt I will still be playing Halo 3′s campaign in 10 years.

I don’t want to get into a debate about this, I just want everyone to know that I think Ocarina of Time is the best game ever made.

  12. DethPwn says:

I think we can all drink a pint to that!

  13. DethPwn says:

And for the record, I meant Ocarina would be better.

  14. BerserkerBarage says:

Trying to say that Halo 3 is better than OoT is like saying that a 2004 Chevy Camaro is better than a 1968 Chevrolet Camaro.

One is one of the most iconic cars ever made. The other is a decent common-day version.

    • PikminGod says:

bad analogy…there is this whole mystique of things from the past and that’s why people think they are so awesome. In your memory, you see everything with a silver lining and that is why you think it is so good. Go talk to someone that never played Mario 64 until after they played Mario Sunshine, They will 100% think Sunshine is a much better game than Mario 64 was. The same goes for Windwaker and OOT. you only see OOT as so great because when you played it when you were younger, you loved it, and that love has just grown over the years. Granted OOT stands up very well compared to other great games of the past like goldeneye which is almost unplayalbe by todays standards. Most OOT fans played it again on the GCN, but when i played the game i noticed glaring flaws and other things are major no-gos by today’s standards.

Think of it this way- when you were 5 y/0 your dad was your hero and the strongest man ever and he could do no wrong, if you had left at that age and didnt see him for 10 years, in your head he would still be this heroic figure, even though you know that isnt possible. But since you grew up with him, your image of him degraded in your head, its kinda a loose analogy, but i hope you get the point

      • BerserkerBarage says:

You’re mistaking correlation for causation. Just because OoT is a “classic” game isn’t at all why I think it kicks the -blam! out of Halo 3. Just because GoldenEye is a “classic” game isn’t at all why I think it’s better than Halo 3. It’s not so simplistic. And don’t think I’m naive enough to simply let nostalgia cloud my judgment.

But going back to Super Mario 64 as compared to Super Mario Sunshine. Sure, you’re probably right about what you said. If you let someone that hasn’t played either game play both SM64 and SMS at the same time, they’d probably say that Super Mario Sunshine is the better of the two games. They would also be WRONG! Because they don’t understand enough about either of the games to adequately judge the difference between them. The don’t understand the difference between when the two games came out. They think that an ad hoc comparison is somehow relevant. It’s not. And not to make this overly dramatic but there are a fair amount of people that don’t really understand the games enough to compare them adequately IMO.

Now that sounded like some really elitist crap but at the same time I don’t go tell Bernanke the difference between a ROTH and a traditional IRA.

Sooo…let’s just agree to disagree about the issue.

    Nice analogy.

  16. triptup says:

this is after all, just a poll, where we all get a voice to be heard that, in the end, falls on one side or the other of a line of delineation. do not let this demarcation twist us into a frenzy of what is right and wrong. after all, we each have our own experiences that are understandable only to us. a critique is good only if one agrees with the person that has stated their opinion. let us create our own bracket winners based on our own opinions and know who our champion is in our hearts. for hawty’s tournament, as in the real NCAA tourney, the better team does not always win. But isn’t fun to watch the outcome?!!

    • BerserkerBarage says:

“for hawty’s tournament, as in the real NCAA tourney, the better team does not always win. But isn’t fun to watch the outcome?!!”

You got me there. Good point.

  17. I like how this page has become a debate about OoT vs Halo 3. Obviously Halo 3 will win here, a site basaed around Halo mostly, and frequented by people who mostly were not around to play OoT when it came out. Really though, it can be summed up most simply by the revolutionary aspects of either game. Halo 3 was basically another upgrade to the Halo: Combat Evolved style gameplay, which is fine because you shouldn’t fix something that isn’t broken. They definitely introduced the greatest iterations of gameplay capture and level editor for a console game.

But then we turn back the clock to OoT. I only have to bring up one feature: Z-Target. The targetting system for OoT was perfect and absolutely revolutionary for the Console Action/RPG, Action/RPG in general. The graphic were fantastic for the time, and unlike most N64 games it wasn’t broken. N64 had some of the greatest games in history, but it also had the most broken games in history (Superman 64 anyone?). OoT’s story was absoutely epic, the world design was staggering, the puzzles were challenging (although occasionally annoying, damn Water Temple), the boss fights were absolutely epic….

The game just fit together so well. Honestly, I can’t see how any game could ever beat it out. It is consistently rated as the number one game of all time, and for good reason. It is simply awesome.

Ugh, I’m done with this topic, let’s just sit back and watch as the greatest games of our childhoods get slaughtered in this awesome tournament BS Angel so gratiously compiled. I am already looking forward to next year’s brackets!

  18. DethPwn says:

I fear Halo 3 will claim the title it so fiercely does not deserve, but as Crazed pointed out, this is essentially a Halo website. In my personal opinion OoT is better than Halo 3 by that day’s standards, but not by this day’s.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that every good title has its run of leadership until it becomes obsolete in the face of modern gaming. (And in no way am I saying that Ocarina is obsolete, just that the standards have been raised exponentially)

  19. Ughh. How is Perfect Dark beating Mega Man 2? I love Joanna as much as the next guy but. . . come on people.
