Five Minute XBLA Demo Review: Peggle

Five Minute XBLA Demo Review is a regular weekly offering where I play the current XBLA demos so you don’t have to. While I love you enough to try out all of these titles, I don’t love you enough to spend more than a few minutes doing it. Take ‘em or leave ‘em, the mini reviews are meant to be nothing more than a brief glimpse into the first five minutes of the game. As you will soon discover, the majority of them are not worth playing farther than that anyways.

After deleting the piece of shit that was last week’s Arcade game, my hard drive was ready for another round of heated gaming action. This time the offering was of the puzzle variety, which just happens to be right up my alley. Peggle, a game that seems to be a cross between Zuma and pachinko, is crazy good ball-busting fun. Basically you shoot balls and attempt to hit specific targets in a limited number of shots. If you hit all the targets, you get this thing called fever. And let me tell you, fever is good. There’s an ample amount of fireworks, music, and orgasms involved. Speaking of which, five minutes wasn’t nearly long enough with this particular title. Please excuse me while I go spend some quality time with the full $10 version I just indulged in. Bleep bloop.

Funny. My brothers-in-law have been playing that for a couple of years on the PC. You can get it through Steam I believe.

I just bought World of Goo through Steam last weekend. Haven’t had a chance to check it out yet of course, lol … ::adds it to the stack of dusty, unopened games::

I doubt everyone here follows the PC game scene. For those that dont, this came out on the PC a while ago. I got it through steam a bit ago, so I wont be getting this again on the 360. It was a great game back when it was, at $10 its a steal.

Goo was not as enjoyable to me. A game like Goo should be a bit more open. Not having one specific way to acheive the puzzle. I also kept getting pissed off at the wobbling of the towers for no reason. Got a little more than halfway and I started to have to look up the puzzle on youtube too many times. Stopped playing.

I just have to say that it took them too long to get this super additive game to XBLA. I don’t really like Pop Cap games. However, I can’t bad-mouth Peggle because I have so many hours under my belt. Peggle may have a questioning appearance, but it can suck you in almost like World of Warcraft can. Also multi-player over Xbox Live will keep me playing even longer.

Mmm, sweet, sweet, Peggle. Gimme some of that awesome Unicorn power!

Peggle is awesome, I was playing it on the PC while the XBLA verison was downloading…addicted?

I hooked Amanda up with it last night and she played through that demo unicorn level. Nothing like having Beethoven’s 9th play when you win, huh? :)

That sounds like my 4th of July!

    …I mean, I wish that was my 4th… :o(

I just took the trial version for a spin, and I have to say; I loved it. The loading screen’s quip of “hoping this works” and the ridiculously over-the-top playing of Bhetoven’s 9th Symphony was pretty hilarious; I’ll make sure to pick this up when I get more Microsoft points.
