Tell Me Something I Don’t Know

It’s about that time. No, not that time, but the time where I listen to your feedback and ponder possible changes. Many of you are good about giving me honest criticism, and I greatly appreciate that. Valued reader “u suck a$$” recently gave me something to chew on with these rather insightful words: “GO DIE IN A FIRE U DUMB ASS CUM DUMPSTER N*GGER TITS N*GGER TITS BITCH WHORE FUCK HOLE I CAN HAZ 50 OH WAIT I DO.” Even if you can’t provide a high quality assessment as detailed as that, your opinions are still beneficial to me. Today I’d like to cover two things, one I am curious about and one that has been suggested to me more than a few times. First I’ll tell you why I’m asking then you can either give me your feedback via a comment or a simple click in the polls located at the end of the article. If you’re one of those annoying overachiever types, feel free to do both.

Topic #1: Redundancy between Bungie.net, hbo, and HMB
Often times I choose to pass on content that I feel is worthy simply because it has already been covered on Bungie.net and halo.bungie.org. I tend to assume anybody who reads Hawty McBloggy also reads at least one of those sites simply because content is Halo-focused and I am the smallest site of the three. So first I am going to ask you about your reading habits to let me know if I am not carrying stories I should be or as confirmation my decisions about this subject matter in particular have been correct.

Topic #2: To Twitter or not Twitter, that is the question
One of the more common requests I receive involves Twitter. I tried it for a one week period and found it too similar to what I already do. Plus, I have diarrhea of the mouth where their character limit is not conducive to how much verbal vomit I feel the need to spew. Apparently I’m big on making assumptions because I also have been going with the thought that if someone Twitters, they probably use a feed reader and I already have two active feeds so Twitter is not necessary on top of that.

So now it’s poll time. Thanks in advance for any opinions and/or constructive criticism you have to offer.

Lol, At first I thought the pic said: Ura Dum-bass

    • bs angel says:

I heard a rumor that particular type of species isn’t the brightest fish in the sea if you know what I mean.

      • Cunbelin says:

That was groan worthy, reminds me of Animal Crossing’s fish puns

        • bs angel says:

::runs off to think of more::

  2. gigglepie says:

I always check your site before any else, just because everywhere else placates people, while you don’t give a rats ass to.

    Thank you for being you

    • DethPwn says:

It’s true. I’ve been on sites that are run by inconsistent posters, racists or just plain douches. I’m happy that I have the privelege of a blogger who gives out compliments, teamkills and Spartan Pr0nz by the handful :D

    • bs angel says:

Thanks for that. I strive to maintain a certain level of quality control and honesty. It’s easier when it’s just a hobby and there aren’t any ulterior motives.

      • SoxKid05 says:

you know, i went here for about six months and didnt know this was an actual blog. i always thought it was just an epic website =]

      • DethPwn says:

        Ulterior motives… *shudders*

  3. DethPwn says:

    Debate This plz?

Seriously though, whatever happened to that ‘Dear Hawty’ idea?

    • bs angel says:

I haven’t had a good topic for “Debate This” in a while. I definitely need to think of one! And I never managed to get “Dear Hawty” off the ground. That’s been something I’ve been tossing around for months too. Maybe it’s just not meant to be. :)

      • PikminGod says:

Debate Halo Wars…Like “Does the simplification of it still make it a good game?…a good RTS?” ” Should it get a PC port?” “WTF voicechat?”

Or in the same vein- Will MGS completely pimp out the Halo franchise into some anonymous piece of shit? or only let it breed out actually good spawns that are well made?

  4. Das Kalk says:

your site is the first thing I check when I wake up, and the forums too, but I can’t tell you how many times I have missed my bus due to rambling in a comment… like now, but it’s alright since I have nowhere to be like school or work or something along those lines run-on-sentence.

    • DethPwn says:

      Aah, the forums. Sad face

I go through the same thing Das. In the morning, on the bus, lunch, dinner, and thereon after.

By the way: how about something to do with Recon, machinima or Microsoft’s Halo Whorage for Debate This

  5. Lord Osiris says:

HBO is my homepage, and Bungie.net/HMB are 1-2 in my bookmarks list.

  6. GeneralCupcakes says:

Bnet is my homepage. HawtyMcBloggy is on my Bookmark toolbar next to RoosterTeeth and ICanHasCheezBurger.

    • bs angel says:

      I can has bookmark? :)

      • Araknoros says:

My homepage consists of 6 tabs, My music page, Facebook, B.net, my email, halo 3 junk, and 1 <3 halo 3 screenshots. i check the screenshots first then shift over her and spend more time here than anywhere else usually. so BS you can always has bookmark

  7. I prefer that you don’t twitter, unless you plan on adding new “vomit” to the mix.

    • bs angel says:

I’m thrilled someone appreciated that sentence. I attempted to include as many disgusting references as humanly possible! And comment duly noted. :)

  8. Fezzer says:

I only come for the Rec0nz contests.

    • bs angel says:

      I knew it!

  9. AT-AT says:

People who post comments like the one quoted in the article should have their IP address broadcasted for DDoS attacks.

As for the actual topic: I don’t notice much article redundancy (nor would I want any; I go to different sites for different content), but I do like the fact that your site has less of a focus on Halo, and more on video games in general.

  10. when it comes to assholes who makes posts like that, usually the first thing i tell them is to STFU and get a life. If you can’t be respectful on the internet then why bother coming online to show the world someone you’re not? Besides if you are that stupid to be disrespectful to a woman then why are you part of the gene pool? Having emailed you a few times i think you’re a really fun person, your site is one of the first i check in the morning right after Hijinks Ensue :)

Keep up the good work Angel, you have a fan

    <

  11. Qix says:

Google is my homepage, I havea lkot of rss feeds going through there, and even when some sites post new articles, depending on the title, I may not bother. But I ALWAYS come to all the HMB articles.

    btw, StealthSpeed3… Mazda rules!

    • bs angel says:

      Wow, thanks Qix!

    • thanks! There’s a reason why i went with a MazdaSpeed3 instead of a VW GTI ;)

  12. gtdroptop says:

I have all three on RSS. This is the one I read the most though. HBO is inconsistent in the quality of their posts, and bungie.net is rarely relevant anymore.

    • bs angel says:

I think each site has a different goal, which makes a difference depending on what sort of content you are looking for.

      • DethPwn says:

And your goal is to drop the codpiece on boredom

  13. SHAGGYDEATH says:

You are my first stop on the web every day! Followed by RVB then the News and then BNET. Keep up being you and don’t change for any dumbasses! As for being redundant. That is what a scroll wheel is for. To skip the things you dont want read or have seen before. I always go by the motto the more knowledge the better. Especially when it is done with a don’t give a Fuck opinion!
    Keep it up!

  14. bigglesworth says:

I visit HMB around twice daily. the others mainly if I follow a link from your site.
I have never, and most likely never will visit Twitter.

BTW, am I the only one that the polls were asking to sign up for an account?

    • bs angel says:

Hhhmmm, they shouldn’t ask you to sign up just for voting. Did you maybe click the “Polldaddy.com” link?

      • bigglesworth says:

IE 8 issue. I can votez now

  15. REM says:

when you have more than a 4 hour interval between posts, I get bored =(

  16. ReverendTiki says:

Please do not even consider “twittering” or “tweetering” or whatever you’d call it.
Twitter is the bane of my existence, simply because i don’t know what the point/benefit of it is.

I visit HMB several times a day for the articles and your “unique” view on things.
I also am addicted to halo pr0n. we should have some AA type meetings for that.

    • bs angel says:

But that would infer there is something wrong with our inclination…

  17. mysterioso2006 says:

The way the screenshot is looks like a prank from Bart.

“Im lookin for a Ura Dum-Bass! Last name Ura, first name Dum-bass?”

Anyway I visit all sites equally for the most part.

  18. Personally, I have all three sites bookmarked. Two, if you don’t count the homepage.

So yeah, I do find it a little redundant at times, but all three usually have unique stories every day.

  19. SonOfKitFisto says:

    >.> i dont really like HBO… but Bungie rules (except for no reconz yet) and HBM is my homepage!! which i visit alot!!! for spartan p0rnz!! lol!
your so lucky i dont call a /i/ on your site bs angel i just love HawtyMcBloggy way too much to do that yet <3

  20. Rhamsey says:

i actually don’t read the other sites at all, and check yours a couple of times a day, and really do love it.
thing is though, twitter is stupid, i cant think of any person on earth that id like to know what they were doing every minute of the day. hell, i don’t even care what i’m doing half the time.

lastly, the person who left that message
    1. doesn’t understand basic grammar
    2. spells words with letters. if i knew them in real life, id punch them in the face. you is not a long word, and the letter u, is and should never be a substitute.
    3. they used the word n*gger on the internet, because they have a very small penis and know they would get their ass kicked if they said it offline.

  21. Tentimook says:

As I have said before I check B.net and Hawty and Facebook,

All 3 are my top bookmars, right below the address bar. I check all 3 every hour or so.

I dont mind if you post stuff from HBO though, I dont check there.

  22. I visit the HBO front page daily (roughly twice a day) and I am more of a lurker on the HBO forum these days. I check the Bnet front page about twice a week, mostly to sign in and check my campaign stats. The Bnet forums are pretty much a cess-pool of whiners, no offense to Bungie and their forum admins and I rarely post there.

I come here mainly for the forum. I read through several forum threads and I post a reply when I think I have something to add/offer. I always check out your blog posts, some are interesting to me and some are not, its the same thing with the news posting at HBO, this is to be expected and it takes nothing away from either site.

There is a lot of redundancy throughout the more popular Halo fan sites and I wouldn’t worry about it. Post what you think is interesting to you.

Bungie created a big Halo universe and there is lots of room for you play in it next to HBO and Bnet. It takes a while to find a place in this vast Halo universe, just keep plugging along and you will find that place :)

  23. bs angel says:

I’m glad I asked these questions because trends are certainly not as I had assumed they were.

  24. t0rm3n7 says:

I have HMB fed through my RSS machine, which I check even before email. I check HBO after all my web-comics, and I only go to B.net if HBO links to something interesting (which is about twice a day). I come here for general video game stuffs, used to go to Joystiq, but I couldn’t keep up with all the overload of news…

    Keep up the Great work!

    • bs angel says:

I unsubscribed from Joystiq when they did their recent changeover. Having both Xbox 360 Fanboy and Joystiq feeding into my reader resulted in numerous double posts. And thanks!

  25. lifeskoolthug says:

Usually I visit this site first because it isn’t all uptight. It’s loose and funny, plus it gives me stories other websites will give me in a short summary. Basically, I love this site.

    • bs angel says:

Thanks lifeskoolthug. Definitely not uptight around these parts. :)

  26. HellCat says:

I go to a lot of gaming sites daily especially yours as it covers a wide range of funny good stuff. I need something to occupy my time and this place is the BEST one

    My life = fail

    • bs angel says:

      I think HellCat = win. :)

  27. HellCat says:

Btw my cousin sends this to people who send him recon screen shots

  28. Doc says:

I perfer your site to b.net. If there is anything new, and worth-while, posted on b.net, you usually alert me. But the great thing (and has been said), is that you don’t just post about halo, but video games in general. Keep up the good work, I’d like to see more stories.

  29. Mace Windex says:

    LAWL VIEW POLE

    • bs angel says:

      Forget, did ya? ;)

      • Mace Windex says:

        I am high on Neo-citran.

  30. pancho says:

    holy crap
those insightful words were rather poetic

  31. BTSculptor says:

I live here. If you find something important enough on Bungie or HBO to mention it, or I read about it in the Forum, I check it out.

  32. Mizzy says:

i used to visit halo.bungie.org and bungie.net everyday, but I lost a lot of interest in them and only go there when I feel like it. Those sites don’t seem to have the verbal flair that you do xD (besides the forum trolls).
Twitter, I think, is the most useless tool ever created. What’s the sense in it, really? If people wanted to know how you were, they’d call you or at least shoot you an email. Now, 43 characters are enough to describe people’s day? WTH?!

  33. Kato says:

Keep posting what you want to post. I don’t think anyone will fault you for having reposts or covering stories that are also mention on HBO or Bungie.net. That’s one of the nice things about the internet and blogging–good stories show up in multiple places so if you missed it in one place you’ll probably see it somewhere else. Plus, at least for me, if it’s a story I’ve already read, I just skim over it and move on to the next post. I think the only issue would be if you didn’t post your awesome content and just re-posted Bungie.net articles.

And I believe I am one of the individuals who bugged you about Twitter. :) I thought perhaps with that mouth ailment of yours (which involves you both spewing and defecating words from the same orifice) you might find Twitter an interesting outlet. it’s not for everyone, and there are good twitterers and bad ones, but for me (personally) it’s nice because I can spout off about the random things I come across during the day that I don’t have the time and energy (or aren’t worth) a full blog post. Then again, I suspect most of your updates will just be…

    bs angel: I call rockets.
bs angel: This guy keeps getting in my way.
    bs angel: Yes, plasma grenades!!
bs angel: I may have just teamkilled.
bs angel: I DEFINITELY just teamkilled.
bs angel: Hey is XBOX Live down?

    ;)

    • bs angel says:

Your impression of me Twittering actually makes me want to Twitter! LOL, …

  34. BBJynne says:

    I like this site best
I visit it first, and sometimes forget to look at it though…
but usually at least once a day happens.

  35. Dren says:

    About the twitter thing.

I have a feed setup for a tech site that just posts when and new article is up. They use the tiny URL thing and post the title of the article. That way I can see if there is anything new on the site. I am always checking my twitter on my phone and its quicker then loading up the web page. So you could use it that way as an information portal, and not really just vomiting all over your followers. :-)

    Dren

    • bs angel says:

I apologize for my n00bishness as I don’t surf the net on my phone but do rss feeds work on them?

  36. BerserkerBarage says:

Hmmm, I visit all sites mentioned probably about equally as much. Although probably B.net is still in the lead since that’s more of my “home” site. I didn’t vote in the poll though because I check the B.net Blog but Urk still scares me. Well, not really scares me per se, more like pisses me off because he tried to make me sound like a whiny little bitch per se.

Anyways, in regards to news stories, I wouldn’t mind a HMB take on some of the news that gets posted on B.net/HBO. It might be a link to the same video/machinama/Update but it will come with that patented “Hawty” flair. Like 37 pieces of flair kind of flair. So I don’t find posting the same thing as redundant. I wouldn’t expect CNN *not* to cover a story just because MSNBC did slightly sooner.

I have a Twitter. Normally I just post in there about threads on B.net that I’m currently trolling so some of my “posse” can go troll them as well. To me, it’s not exactly useful, so I’m kinda indifferent about it in regards to if you want to use one Angel. Although if your Twitter constantly said, “I’m wearing something from VS…guess where and get a pic” I’m pretty sure I’d F5 the shit out of your Twitter account.

    ~B.B.

    • bs angel says:

You have a good point about covering something already covered. And guess what? I’m wearing something from VS, … PERFUME! ;)

      • MGH1138 says:

Something tells me that is quite what BB had in mind…

        • BerserkerBarage says:

Not exactly, but I’m willing to work with it ;)

          ~B.B.

  37. MGH1138 says:

I only come here to see the pornstars on eBay selling their ex-hubby’s MC statue. ;o)

Kidding aside, I don’t visit the other sites very often but I come here for the video-game-related-comedy. Hawty is a smart-ass, and I like smart-asses. :D

    • SonOfKitFisto says:

if this was 4chan, right here i would put a pic up of an ass with a huge brain on it LOL

      • MGH1138 says:

        NICE!! Haha.

  38. assassin10k says:

I miss you on twitter bs!

  39. TheChrisD says:

Since I only visit websites via RSS, I visit HBO a lot more than the Bungie.net blog, mainly because the “excerpts” for the stories on Bungie.net are a load of shit and doesn’t make it clear what the whole story is about in one line.

  40. silvercube says:

You can have a twitter that lets readers know when you make a new post… I use Twitter every now and then : )

I don’t really check Bungie.net or hbo like at all, probably because I’m not much into Halo.
