New Commenting Option, Now with Threading!
February 19, 2009 55 Comments

Have you ever wanted to respond to one comment in particular but decided not to as it was a good ten posts above yours? Have you grown increasingly tired of adding “@Random Douchebag User” to the beginning of your commentary in hopes that the one person it was directed to comes back and sees it? Fret no more because as of today there is a new threading option available to augment your already pleasurable commenting experience. Under each individual comment you will see a “reply” option. That will tie your comment directly to the one you are replying to. No more sifting through multiple points of discussion you don’t give a shit about just to see if anybody responded to your insightful and incredible words of wisdom! Hit the jump to see a before and after example of how exactly you can utilize this feature.

*Replies made all in good fun. Hugs and kisses to those of you I singled out! As always, feedback on this particular feature is welcome and appreciated.

Awesome! More useless stuff no one cares about!
lol I kid I kid
Too late. You’re fired! ;)
If it’s not a useful feature, I’ll disable it. I thought it may be a pretty cool addition, … we’ll see if it’s utilized or not.
Utilized. Threading single-postedly saved by Jim!
^_^
very nice feature
I appreciate the “notify of followup comments via email” too
i can do this now
wheeee! thi is fun =] the only downfall is if people are all like ‘first’ ten reply ‘first on the first’ and so on and so forth
This could get annoying…
I’m sure it will mellow out soon.
Pardon me? Surely we shall keep this business up!
but can you do this?
o_O Jimmy is back!
Jimmy appears from time to time, despite my best efforts.
Of course I think its a great idea! Makes things a lot more simple. I’m using it now! Think if this comment was at the bottom of the list rather that here.
Leeeeeeeching. I feel accomplished now.
NO! Don’t disable it!
Mwhuahaha I comment on you.
I sense… innuendos in your future.
Innuendo? What is that an Italian suppository?
(say it out loud. oh com’on. it’s a little funny. no? fine. I’ll go away now.)
:: thinks of the “Fragile” Christmas Story scene ::
It’s definitely Italian!
Fraa-Gee-Lay lol, I love that movie
Very nice feature…nothing like pimping out your comments section angel.
Italian Leather Sofa….end line in a chorus to what band’s song??
these are awesome!
That’s what he said!
Nice improvement.
why is it i feel as theres gonna be a lot of “thats What she said” going around?
nice tho BS Angel
Thats what she said!
That’s what she….oh never mind
That’s what I … oh nevermind.
YAY! Thanks angel.
thats what she said.
I’ve always wondered about these. Like, how the replies slowly creep to the side. I wondered if they’d extend across the page until you had to start side-scrolling to read them. And also, yea, good feature.
Nice! But as Sean has noted the comment-comments creep to the side, not a huge problem on computers, but for folks like me who do almost all their McBloggy-ing on their phone. Well, the words get more and more squashed till they’re just a thin vertical line of random letters. A small price to pay though!
Yea, its a pain. Both ways have their advantages. I seriously doubt Angel has the patience or free time, but some sites can recognize your on a mobile browser and treat the page differently. Its the best of both worlds, but A LOT of work I would imagine.
I don’t have the resources or the knowledge for a mobile friendly site unfortunately. What I can do is limit the amount of nesting allowed. It was previously set to the maximum number but I just changed it to three instead. It’s the recommended amount so we’ll see how that goes.
I just scrolled through all the comments on this blog, and I didn’t have any trouble at all reading them. Thanks BS!
What software do you use for this blog? If you’re using WordPress, you can always try out a couple of WordPress plugins to put in a mobile interface for your blog.
You can try out these two:
http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/wordpress-mobile-edition.2.1.1.zip
http://wordpressmobile.mobi
The second plugin allows the use of ads, while the other one provides a cleaner look. You can try out both to see which one you like better. ;)
It’s run on WordPress.com, so I’m not entirely sure if WP.org plugins can be used on it.
I use the .com version Mike so I am unable to utilize plugins unfortunately. Thank you for the research and links though. I really appreciate the thought. :)
Drat, I’m stumped. :P
Do The Wave!
Thanks BS.
I saw this feature earlier today, and I love it. :)
Aw, c’mon.
Use me as an example and deliver yourself such a low blow?
I’m sorry for you angel for having to do that with my mother.
LOL
;)
I salute. -farts-
You are gorgeous and take the best care of us. :)
Sweet! I sure hope this gets replied to!
I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you! Oh wait, …
Bless you, I thought I was going to have to reply to myself.
Just like every other Friday night of my life…
So we has nested responding now… kool.
Awesome!
A very useful new addition.
The next thing you need to update is allowing us to edit our post.
This way I can edit any of my posts I make a fool of myself in, and no one will know that I did.
;)
I see the blog has now been WordPress 2.7-ized.
this is neat!
Thread sauce pfhor the win!
Its just like forum nao!
