Mega Bloks, an inferior quality pseudo-Lego type of building toy, will be releasing Halo Wars-themed construction sets this summer. Featuring key characters and vehicles from the upcoming real-time strategy video game that is set in the Halo universe, you can consider me less than excited about this announcement. Not because I don’t love playing with colorful interlocking plastic bricks (I have two 14-gallon Rubbermaid storage containers full of them) and not because I don’t love toys based off of popular franchises (I’ve happily purchased almost every single Star Wars-themed Lego set known to mankind), but because I don’t love substandard, rip-off playthings. Call me a toy snob but if they would have released Lego branded high quality Halo building sets, I would have been all over them. Mega Bloks though? Really? I’ll pass thank you very much.

Agreed. I couldn’t wait for my kids to get old enough that I could move them on to Legos. I hated those damn over-sized knock-offs.

I always felt that mega boks was a poor excuse for a lego type toy.
as for having alot of lego, I can agree with the 14 gallon bins of it. god i don’t know how much i have… it’s all over the place.

Mega Blocks….its bigger than Lego. Literally.

So true. If Lego were making these, I’d buy them in a heartbeat. But megablocks? No thanks.

Megablocks? Yuck! I would love to see Lego get a Halo license. We’d get awesome new sets, pieces, and (official) colors.

And so, the endless tide of Halo knock-off products begin.
Posted by Maniacxxl on February 3, 2009 at 3:59 pm
I don’t think they’re gonna be giant baby megablocks, but the ones that are the same size as lego’s except made extremely cheaply. They have a bunch of shitty dragon and mech stuff. Once i was old enough to realize the difference i promptly purged my lego collection of all mega blocks. I’ve been praying for halo lego’s and i own most genres of halo periphenilia. But i’m most likely gonna stear clear of these.

Lego Bricks are noticeably better quality when compared to the Mega Bloks knock off micro size bricks, so I cannot see these models being worthwhile spending money on.

I like halo a lot. I may just end up buying a warthog. (Who am I kidding. I’d buy them all.)
Mega Bloks aren’t THAT crappy. (not great) But it’s the closest were going to get.

Christ. I’d been practically praying for official lego halo merchandise. And they do a deal with megabloks? Please, please tell me it’s a knock-off, and not official, licensed stuff.

Yes, yes.. we all know Lego is better than Megabloks. But oh.. please quit your whining and moaning! There’s a reason Halo went to Megabloks. LEGO refuses to make toys based on M rated games and violent themes. Sorry to rain on your parade, but even if Mega bloks didn’t make a Halo theme, there’s no way Lego would take the contract. Period, end of story!

agreed w/ moris lego is made for KIDS KIDS KIDS!!! While unlike Lego, has made war themed sets. The only guns lego makes is a crappy revolver and for the star wars sets

Mega Bloks isn’t that bad. Lego is still better. Anyway I am a big Halo fan, but the Halo Wars game sucked. It was like watching a movie.

We have the Halo Wars Aerial Assault and Covenant Banshee sets from Mega Blocks–complete and utter crap. Blocks don’t stay together and pop off way too easily, almost impossible to put together and play with since it keeps coming apart–my 10 year old cried trying to build it and make it stay together and his old man (me) almost threw it across the room the darn thing keep coming apart so easily! DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT–a complete rip-off!

this is just plain ridiculous, MEGA BLOKS HALO, for gods sake… lego should have made these not that lego knock off, rip off, overpricing crap company mega bloks, for gods sake there getting trashed by lego, its just some guy trying to re write best toy history, im sure this will rase there popularity but seriously they look so stupid and poorly done. lego would have done it creatively and made it suitable to play with… anyway an M-rated game is what halo is but,,, BUT i know a whole legion of 10-13 year olds who play halo and love it, and im sure they would want lego halo, but alas this crap was produced forever ruining my dream of official lego halo sets, guess ill just have to keep building my own halo models by looking at pictures… but if you want lego halo for your kids go to these website… this guy sells instructions to build halo models in lego and decals for the minfigs, to turn them into halo characters…

My son saved his allowance for 3 weeks just so he could buy the Halo Wars – Warthog MegaBloks. I had no idea they sucked this bad! He had been in his room for a good 3 hours building that piece of crap and came out crying because he said as soon as he picked it up it just fell apart. I thought he must have not connected them correctly so I went in to help him. The pieces must be warped or something, because I couldn’t get one side together without the other side popping up. I’m glad I found this page because he was going to trade it for another one. Now he knows it’s only Lego’s from now on!

At least lego got toy story and buzz is as close to a space marine as your gonna get.

Say what you will about the Megabloks blocks, the thing is their minifigs are much more articulated and versatile than LEGO people, hence the appeal of their Halo Wars line.
So, yes, even though the fit of the pieces is not as precise as in LEGO bricks they do offer a reasonably good product. Then again, I don’t mind mixing Megabloks and LEGO in the same MOC, so I am hardly a purist.
