Embarrassment of Riches: 01.28.09

With Super Bowl XLIII right around the corner, Microsoft decided to grace your NXE avatar’s closet with a collection of European National Football Team sports shirts. Wait, those two aren’t related in the least bit. WTF Microsoft? I would list all the countries included in this edition of NXE clothing add-ons but really, who cares? For more gaming news that won’t interest you (unless you are over the age of 80), this week’s XBLA game is the 800Microsoft Points FunTown Mahjong, a virtual rendition of the traditional Chinese tile game. Sharing the release date was FunTown Mahjong – Chinese Festival, 160Microsoft Points premium DLC for the same game which allows you to “visit the temple and play Mahjong during the Chinese New Year to bring good luck for the whole year.” You know who won’t be getting good luck for the whole year? The brilliant person that decided to release DLC on the same date they released the game because gamers love that shit. Really, we just adore being milked for all we’re worth. Speaking of which, Fallout 3 also received some DLC in the form of Fallout 3 Operation: Anchorage. It will cost you 800Microsoft Points if you want to experience the liberation of Anchorage, Alaska from its Chinese Communist invaders.

On the free front, we have two new demos. The RESIDENT EVIL 5 Demo allows you a brief glimpse at this highly anticipated sequel either by yourself or with a partner. The F.E.A.R. 2 Single Player Demo however makes you face the wrath of Alma Wade all by your lonesome. Put on your big girl panties. You’ll need them.

Rock Band 2 continues towards their goal of getting 1.5 million dollar bonuses again next year by offering the Grateful Dead-themed pack. Collectively 800Microsoft Points and independently 160Microsoft Points, your options are Don’t Ease Me In, Hell in a Bucket, Uncle John’s Band, Cold Rain and Snow, Doin’ That Rag, and Fire on the Mountain. Guitar Hero World Tour wins this week though because not only are they offering up an Aussie Track Pack (“Outtathaway!” by The Vines, “Tomorrow” by Silverchair, and “Dimension” by Wolfmother available for 160Microsoft Points apiece or 440Microsoft Points for all three) but they are also giving you the Bruce Springsteen Track Pack for free. That’s right, “Born to Run” and “My Lucky Day” can be yours for the low, low price of nothing but only until February 5 when it will then be available for 320Microsoft Points. So get it now or forever hold your piece. Lips saw DLC as well (“Hate That I Love You” by Rihanna for 180Microsoft Points, “Look What You’ve Done” by Jet for 160Microsoft Points, and “Thnks Fr Th Mmrs” by Fall Out Boy for 160Microsoft Points) but I don’t think anybody plays that game so we’ll just go ahead and wrap this up. But not before I ask, what the hell does Fall Out Boy have against vowels anyways?

Enjoy last week’s embarrassment of riches! Or not.

As soon as I have batteries I’m switching to either Germany or Poland team shirts. Just because.

  2. Sarge Tomzilla says:

And Edit: No Poland or Russia? The hell?

  3. AusQB says:

    Vowels cost money.

  4. PikminGod says:

  5. COL0NEL SANDERS says:

Honestly, I’m not sure if I’ll get the Fallout DLC for a while.
I’m sure it’s amazing, but I don’t have the time or money right now to get it.

    Has anyone played it yet?
Have any info on it, Angel?

  6. DethPwn says:

RE5 and FEAR are only good news. In a related note, I’m starting a monthly must-have list in the forums, so check it out and get your Mahjong on. (Good lord did I really just say that…)

  7. bs angel says:

You did indeed just say that DethPwn. LOL!

Colonel Sanders, while I can’t offer you personal insight (I don’t play RPGs), I can point you in the direction of this informative IGN article on the subject matter. :)

  8. COL0NEL SANDERS says:

I’ve already read that, but thanks anyway!
    lol

I guess I should have been more specific. I did want some personal insight.
Critics are helpful when looking for a first impression of something, but I prefer to get info from people who play games for fun, instead of as a job.

    Know what I mean?

  9. DethPwn says:

I need to die… right now.

  10. Socket says:

    German Soccer shirts!!!!

    OLI KAHN FTW

  11. El Capitaine says:

I don’t listen to Fallout Boy.

That’s why I found it extremely funny when they disemvoweled themselves.

  12. Roche178 says:

    “but really, who cares?”

Now Hawty football (soccer to you Americans) is the most widely played game in the world, not everyone is American. :P

I very much know what you mean, and I feel the same way you do. Unfortunately though this is not a genre I frequent so I can offer zero help. Maybe someone that is going through the comments will be familiar with the purchase and can offer some insight into the content.

Good point. But they don’t have any events coming up, right? They had their big championship last year? My only point was they could have focused on something that was relevant to right now. :)

  15. setters says:

only the world cup qualifiers this year, so no, nothing too big….

    ;)

  16. soulofaqua says:

OH YES YES YES! NEDERLAND OHHH NEDERLAND WE WORDEN KAMPIOEN!
    >.> Sorry the dutch supporter in me came out….. HURRAY FOR ORANGE SHIRTS!

  17. Socket says:

The European Cup thing was last year. That’s probably why they released them. They only did European shirts, so that would explain it.

  18. MGH1138 says:

    “Disemvoweled”?

    Epic.
