January 15, 2009 62 Comments
The results from the 2008 Best of Halo Awards are finally in. 357 nominations. 13,072 votes. 60 nominees. 10 winners. First I’d like to offer my congratulations to everybody who won but more importantly, I’d like to say a sincere thank you to all the nominees, everybody who voted, and each and every individual who continues to make a positive contribution in this amazing and talented community. Without further ado, your votes have been counted and I’m proud to officially announce the winners of the 2008 Best of Halo Awards!
“Thank you for voting me, the Halo 3: ODST trailer (formerly known as the Halo 3: Recon trailer and now known simply as Ahdst), as the biggest Halo News of the year. I was pretty awesome, wasn’t I? My slogan (A vote for me is a vote for Recon) apparently worked like a charm! Be sure to look for the full retail version of me on a store shelf near you in Fall 2009. Peace!”
“I am not surprised in the least bit that you voted me best map. First of all, I have design elements from both Lockout and Ascension which everybody knows are two of the best maps ever. Second, I’m just beautiful. Have you stopped and looked at my many examples of lush and flourishing greenery lately? Third, I even have a dance floor. How many maps have dance floors?! That’s what I thought. So thanks for the award and if any ladies are reading this, I’m single and available. You know where to find me.”
“Thanks for the “Best Social Site” nod. We’re really just renting out space. What you guys do with it is what makes it the carnival of fun rides and funnel cakes it is.”
“I’m honored, and humbled, and even a little embarrassed (given the current state of the site’s organization) that the fans would consider HBO the Best Resource Website – and I hope we can continue to live up to their expectations! Thanks a million to HMB for running the Awards ceremony this year – and to all the Halo fans for continuing to play the games!”

“Somehow, through voice cracks and wrong chords, these songs have brought smiles to faces worldwide. I want to thank everyone who has shown me love. This includes, but is not limited to : HawtyMcBloggy.com, Spyda Munky, Scarred, Generalocity, B5D Jumpman, Anti Pro and the guys at ArmTheFlag.com, Louis Wu and the guys at Halo.Bungie.Org, Calico and Tuxedo Cat and the guys at Real7alk.com, Venom and the guys at H3ITWP, IronSkull and the guys at BWO, Cali Kritical and the guys at B5D, Randomsauce and the guys at Halo3Mythbusters.com, TV Casualty and the guys at OTK, the TTL crew, Burnie Burns from RVB and all of my Grifball friends, Firestream, RippinHeads and the guys at Halocharts.com, Dustin Burg and Xbox360fanboy.com, everyone on my friends list, everyone in the Bryan Simon Fanclub on B.net, and last but not least, Bungie for making a great game and for giving my mom Recon (which, by the way, has brought us back together.)”
“I am very excited that my Gargoyle won me Best Screenshot! Of course I could not have done it without the Halo community. There are so many people I would like to thank. First I would like to start by thanking Hawty McBloggy for organizing this whole thing and really making the Halo community stronger. I would like to thank Bungie of course for bringing Forge to Halo 3. I would like to thank all my friends who put up with hours of my bitching while posing in my screenshots. I would like to thank FoMan123, for were it not for him I might not be accepting this award. Most of all I cannot show my appreciation enough for the people who nominated and voted for me, thank you all. This really does mean a lot to me and I hope to see many more creative minds out there making kick ass screenshots!”
“It is an honor to win this award especially when competing with some awesome montages such as the Phurion and Fluxy montage. I’m glad to see that people accept that my friends and I like to play Halo in a way that is fun for us and that we don’t necessarily try to win every game. I hope to see everyone out there in BTB matchmaking. If you see me goose’n, feel free to get on mah goose no matter which team you’re on. I’m also planning on making a “T3h Goose King and Friends Goosetage” featuring my friends (In real life) and I, but if you have any good clips I’ll check them out and I might include them in a special section of the video. Thanks for all of your votes!”
“Omg I can’t believe we won! Oh man this is insane. Ok…um…we want to thank all of our fans who voted, Bungie for providing such an amazing creative canvas, Jason our producer without you we would still be back home in Florida, Liane our publisher, Grover from Sesame Street, Dave and Martin our sound specialists, Lisa Serdon, Alex Weaver, Bono for singing in the video, Miley Cyress, and everyone who supported us and continues to support us. Thank you!”
“Wow! We’d like to thank everyone that voted for us. We really appreciate it. We’re glad that you enjoy the series, and we’ve got a lot planned for 2009. We’ll keep Mythbusters going for as long as our subject matter will let us. Being nominated against the likes of RoosterTeeth, DigitalPh33r, Harabek, Darkspire Films, and Young Street Productions was quite an honor. We’re big fans of all of their work. Thanks again everyone! Oh, and thanks for putting this altogether Hawty!”
“Wow, I didn’t think I’d actually win, I thought for sure Louis Wu had this. Thanks a lot for your votes you guys, I really appreciate it and I’m glad so many of you enjoy what I’ve made over the past few years and stuck with me despite my falling under par every now and then. It must’ve been a close win though because Louis and the other nominees deserve just as much, if not more, praise for their outstanding work and devotion to the Halo community. Thank you!”
*A very special thank you to Halcylon for creating all of the beautiful graphics that accompany each award. I would say you rock, but I’m pretty sure you already know that. Hugz. Headshotz. And all that jazz.
*Wait, you didn’t think I would forget about the voter/commenter prize, did you?! The winner in that category, as selected by a random integer generator, is oMFG Carnage! All prizes left Bungie headquarters earlier this week and are expected to land on my doorstep any day now. As soon as the box of Halo goodness arrives, prizes will be divvied up and sent to their respective new homes. Winners will be kept abreast of all prize information as it is known. A very special thank you to Bungie for not only supplying the prizes but also for the tremendous support and encouragement they give their community each and every day, and a special thank you to you for participating in the 2008 Best of Halo Awards! Until next year, …
