Proudly say I’m green… My mom listens to Pink! and my dad listens to weird synth/acid-trip inducing music…and Jurassic 5… Yet somehow I managed to truly appreciate classic rock amongst such terrible influences.
You know, I don’t listen to classic rock… at all. It usually ends up being something where the lead singer screeches and has this ubber whiney voice and ultimately sounds like a woman… and that’s not the kind of rock I want to listen to… you know, the Guns N Roses thing, a little bit of ACDC, there were like 4 other bands I always pointed out that don’t come to mind anyone, and the neverending, OMG just shoot me, please stop doing the same damn thing over and over and over Metalica… whose still technically doing music (as is GNR), but I don’t like them even more.
I went to a concert one time that had Linkin Park, Mudvayne, Deftones, Limp Biskit, and then Metalica (it was actually the one Linkin Park ended up using for their live album, Live in Texas, which I thought was pretty cool)… so I enjoy at least being there for all the other bands, even if they were a little messy since the bass was turned up MEGA high and you could barely here the lyrics to anything, but whatever, but when Metalica finely came on after an hour long hiatus (of drugs I assume) they started with a 10 minute (or so it seemed) long guitar into that annoyed the hell out of me because it was the same sound over and over, so I just went to sleep (we were in seating, even since it’s all been standing room :) ) … I just went straight to sleep in the stupid ass loud arena, and slept untill they woke me up at the end. Yep, I sure do like me some Metalica… that was all just so you’d all understand why I don’t like Metalica… also, I’m pretty sure there are two “L’s” in “Metallica”, but I don’t care.
So true! I have a few friends who’s children (around 8-10 years old) starting listening to The Who, Boston, etc purely due to Rock Band. These parents like classic rock, but don’t actively listen to it.
I would imagine that a pie graph of kids wanting to learn a REAL instrument would look close to the same: Rock Band being a HUGE section.
Now if only I actually listened to classic rock. But I liked some stuff in those games before I ever knew what GH was and RB even existed. My musical history is just a mess.
I gotta say my dad got me into it. I grew up listening to Iron Maiden, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Led Zeppelin, Grateful Dead, Three Dog Night, and The Who on our old record player from as far back as I can remember.
Green.
Classic rock is good rock. I really don’t get what is so good about what is on the radio now. It just comes and goes. There will always be new songs that everyone has to have. There will never be new oldies.

I’m in the green zone.
Awesome.
Posted by EXZA on January 12, 2009 at 12:51 pm
In other news, I am also an uncle for the forth time.
Posted by bs angel on January 12, 2009 at 12:52 pm
That’s awesome Exza! Congrats!
I have found myself introduced to lots of songs I wasn’t familiar with through various music games. I’ve always thought of it as a nice side benefit.
Posted by EXZA on January 12, 2009 at 1:02 pm
Well, I think I need to correct myself.
I am in Green and Purple then.
I liked it before but found more though games. Why do I still like The Police?

I love Boston! I grew up listening to them, along with Chicago. That would be my father’s influence. :)

Where’s the section that says ‘Because Supernatural got them into classic rock’? :P
That’s why I listen to some classic rock every now and then.

Is it awesome that I fit into the green, red, and blue categories, but have never once played any of the Guitar Hero or Rock Band games?
Posted by Alpha on January 12, 2009 at 9:04 pm
I’m green and Purple.
I got started on my local radio after hearing Queen play, then evolved into GH and RB.
Posted by BBJynne on January 12, 2009 at 10:08 pm
I get to be red.
Posted by x Encounter x on January 12, 2009 at 10:13 pm
Were it not for Guitar Hero, I wouldn’t have known I liked some classic songs.
Posted by WaywardFerret on January 12, 2009 at 10:24 pm
Sad, but true.
Glad to be Green/Red. Although most people listen to this stuff they call “crap”… never have understood that…
sorry, did I say crap? I meant rap. But really, whats the difference?

blue and red for me. Although GH and RB is a great way to discover new bands. That’s how I started listening to Guns N’ Roses.

I’ve never played any of the music games, so I guess that means I fit into the great slice of pie.
;)
I’m just cool like that.

Where is the pie section for “their parents are preps and got them into Guitar Hero/Rock Band?” lol
Posted by bs angel on January 13, 2009 at 6:10 pm
That’s in a different section for kids who are too embarrassed to even admit who their parents are!
