The handsome devils over at Second Foundation (who so generously paid me to use that exact terminology) have hosted Halo-themed awards for the past two consecutive years. When I heard they were not going to continue their short-lived tradition, I wanted to make sure significantly contributing members of this community I care so much about still got the recognition they wholeheartedly deserve. Thus, I will be your handsome devil of a host this year for the 2008 Best of Halo Awards. Although I’m not exactly handsome, I’m certainly the devil so at least I’ve got half of it covered!
Nominations for all categories will be accepted until Monday, December 22nd (giving you one full week to ponder and submit your preferred choices). Official nominees will be announced and voting will begin on December 29th. Voting will remain open until January 5th with the winners being announced the following week. When you make your nominations (in the form of a comment), please remember this is for the year 2008 only, meaning potential video nominations must have been made and released in 2008, all screenshot nominations must have been taken in 2008, and eligible news must have occurred in 2008. All of everything must have gone down in 2008. Got it? Good! If you see someone else mention the same thing you were going to point out, go ahead and call my attention to it again. The more referrals I receive for each individual item, the closer I will look at it for consideration. After the jump you will find the specific categories with examples for clarification purposes. Check them out, then get to nominating!
Ex: new Halo-themed title, new trailer, new map pack announcement, etc
Ex: news site, stats site, in-depth analysis site, etc
Ex: someone who strives to make a consistent and positive impact on the Halo community
Ex: a segment which uses rapid editing, special effects and music to present gameplay from Halo
Ex: a regular ongoing series of productions that are produced using the tools and resources available in Halo
Ex: a single episode produced using the tools and resources available in Halo
Ex: an unaltered image taken in Halo 3’s theater mode (must be available on b.net)
Ex: the most hospitable place to hang your hat and talk about Halo, whether it be a clan or a website
Ex: armor, comic, program, image, etc
Ex: must be an original or DLC map available in matchmaking (no custom maps)

Thanks for taking over these awards. We’re far too busy with Gaming Shenanigans to continue them, but I always thought it was a nice event.

The Halo Custom Edition game (a Halo 1 PC derivative and upgrade developed by Gearbox Software for the PC) has long been the forgotten clique, almost the sub culture, of the Halo fan base. In 2008 alone the Halo CE fans have created over 300 custom multiplayer maps and environments for the Halo CE game, numerous single player campaign style levels and over 200 variants of existing map bringing the total fan contributions to over 2,500 unique Halo levels and environments. The Halo 2 Vista community has also developed over 90 levels for the Halo 2 Vista game. Might I suggest that some of those talented map makers be considered in the selections for the Best of Halo Awards? You can find their work at http://www.halomaps.org

I Nominate Firestream from HaloCharts.com for Biggest Community Contributor.
He has made the abslolute best Halo community there is, hands down. The culture at HC is nothing short of spectacular. Any and every member is helpful. The forums are a great place to go for info, help, team mates etc. That is just the community that he has created, now on to the actual site. The stats that are put at your disposal are uncomprehendable. He is constantly updating the site with cool new features. He has weekly challenges that keep you interested in Halo as well as making you play the game in a different fashion to win, which in turn makes you a more complete player.
Last but not least. I was losing interest in Halo before I found HC. Now I have 80+ friends that I have met at HC on my friends list that I play online with regularly. Before HC I had 2 or 3 people that I played with.

HALOCHARTS.COM! its the best site to talk about halo with proof about your skill. It has leaderboards of anything you want. Any weapon EXP gameplay list medal level w/e you want to know about another player is on there.
Firestream the creator of the site is awesome. He has always got to a problem I have had within a few hours to a day. Hes always trying to help contribute by answering peoples questions and actually trying some pointers. I vote for him on any contirbutor for a Halo3 site. Best Site. Best site to talk on. Whatever he and his site halocharts falls into i recommend 100%

As a community hey have gotten more people re-interested or re-focused in their dying love of halo than other sites i’ve seen through their own community site and their many friendly affiliations with other sites and clans to form a melting pot of halo talent to cover all ranges. members pop up from late night romps with randoms who chat about a love of the warthog in lobbies with site members as well. also has many newcomers who discovered the site “by mistake” just cause they checked a few leader boards. all in all just a place to hang out online and chat, make connections, and learn more about honing your skills in nearly all regards. all of the admin staff and more prominent site members are more than willing to welcome new members into games, for there are no formal “clan style” teams {tho there is a cluster of people for site based tourneys which changes every time}. all in all great peeps, great advice, and good times wait there for anyone to join and enjoy at their own leisure.
Give it a look over, you just may love what you find,

Dennis’ halomaps.org has served the community almost 300 terabytes of custom maps, machinima, applications, and videos, adding up to nearly 10 million downloads since 2005. The site also features user forums where beginners and the experienced alike come together to make maps, custom content, and to just discuss Halo.
Dennis really deserves some recognition for this site and all he’s done for the community. I really think he’s helping to keep custom edition going after all these years, because without his site there would be much less interest in the game. Whenever a new player comes to CE, we can always refer them to halomaps.org as the place to download everything they need.
