Europe and Japan Win This Round

halo wars

Halo Wars scheduled release date of February 2009 is still standing for those in Japan and the Asia Pacific region (02.26.09) and also for those residing in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (02.27.09). Gamers in the US, Canada, Mexico and South America however will be left holding their breath until March 3rd (why the Americas are getting it later than the rest of the world is anybody’s guess). Purchasing the $79.99 Limited Collector’s Edition will reward you with a special in-game “Honor Guard” Wraith, a graphic novel, six Leader cards and a “Spirit of Fire” patch along with early access to the Halo 3 Mythic Map Pack. As someone that does not plan on purchasing this game, I’m getting a little anxious about when the next batch of Halo 3 maps will be available to the general masses. As of right now, it’s just taking entirely too long. While I battle my extremely high levels of impatience, feel free to check out the complete press release after the jump.

Get suited up and ready for deployment! On March 3, “Halo Wars,” the action-based strategy game set in the iconic “Halo” universe and created exclusively for Xbox 360, will be available in stores nationwide. Internationally, “Halo Wars” will be available on the following dates:

* Japan and Asia Pacific: Feb. 26
* EMEA: Feb. 27
* Americas (US, Canada, Mexico and South America): March 3

Pre-orders for “Halo Wars” are taking place at participating retailers nationwide now. Fans who pre-order will receive an exclusive in-game Warthog with flame decals. The Limited Collector’s Edition is also available and includes a special in-game “Honor Guard” Wraith, a graphic novel, six Leader cards and a “Spirit of Fire” patch. As an additional exclusive, LCE owners will get early access to the in-game “Halo 3” Mythic Map Pack for exciting new multiplayer action.

The Limited Collector’s Edition retails for an estimated retail price of $79.99, while the standard edition is available at $59.99. A first for a “Halo” franchise game, “Halo Wars” is rated “T” for Teen.

More information on “Halo Wars” can be found online at www.Xbox.com/HaloWars or www.HaloWars.com.

That is slightly disappointing…but it does give me a few extra days to pony up the cash.

I wonder why America (no, Im not an elitist) is getting it last…

Well, why did we get Fable 2 after America? It’s made here.

Anyway, I preordered before the collector’s edition before I knew about the flame Hog, so I bloody well hope Gamestation is taking part in that.

    Ouch! LOL, …

Six Leader Cards – Leaders possess elite skills which can turn the tides of battle

That’s what leader cards are Pikmin. As if that helps any!

Gah, same thing with the Demo of NG2.

They want to get the audience that is less likely of buying it to see it first just to get their attention.

Game companies always love to toy with their biggest buyers and hold out on them.

  18. So we get it five days before the Americas. Big deal.

It’s not nearly payback enough for getting the original Xbox and Halo CE four months after North America.

Angel, a question. You said above, “As someone that does not plan on purchasing this game…” What is the reason you’re not planning on purchasing Halo Wars? Is it because you aren’t into RTS? Is it because of a loyalty to Bungie that you won’t buy a non-Bungie Halo game? Both of those are acceptable answers, IMHO. If it’s something else, I”m curious to know what it is.

Isn’t March 3 when the war ended in the Halo universe?

This couldn’t possibly be a coincidence.

It’s because of your first guess, RTS is not a genre that appeals to me. Unless Risk counts (LOL), I can’t remember the last one I’ve played … if I ever have. While I do love Halo, I won’t buy something that doesn’t interest me simply because it has Halo elements. I don’t play RPGs as well so if that Halo-themed one would have come to fruition, I wouldn’t have purchased that either. Just not my thing!
