The Tackiest Mosaic Ever
November 27, 2008 15 Comments

What would you do if you happened to find yourself with an overabundance of various colored thumbtacks, a spare sixty days, and an all-consuming love for short, fictional, Italian plumbers? You would create a 17,000 push-pin Super Mario Brothers-themed mosaic of course. Constructed by the CIS Student Association at the University of the Fraser Valley, this pointy labor of love took two months to complete (longer if you factor in the three revisions they did as well). Because they put such a colossal amount of effort into this project, I will not mention the slight imperfection on the left-hand side of the picture that is absolutely bugging the shit out of me and instead will tell you that if you like the picture of the very last push-pin going in, you will adore the completed images waiting for you after the jump.

Holy Crap dude! That is one awesomelicious mosaic!
My eye is just drawn to the incomplete left side now you have pointed it out. You would think they would finish that edge. :D
Epic Win, that is SO cool
That’s lame. Jk, I’m drooling
*Hums Mario theme*
How do you always find the projects of the people with the most free time and the most epic results?
If they have that kind of time on their hands, they should try rearranging the push-pins a few times and make a stop-motion video. ;)

I want to see one of Super Mario Galaxy!
I KNEW I SAW THIS ON HERE BEFORE!!!
One of the guys who helped create this actually came to our computers class. As soon as he showed us the pictures, I thought “I’ve seen this somewhere before…”.
That’s really cool! I bet that was a fun presentation.
Actually, it was pretty lame. They were trying to interest students in going to UFV for post-secondary education, but they made a really tacky (no pun intended) powerpoint presentation that looked as if it was made in 10 minutes. The only exciting part of the presentation was when I realized I’d seen that thumbnail picture on here and numerous other sites.
THUMBTACK. I mean thumbtack.
Aaahhh, that’s too bad. They should have just talked about their cool Mario project, eh?!
Yeah…one can wish =P
