How Far That Little Candle Throws his Beams

3rd Annual Holiday Fund Raiser for Child’s Play

Having a child that once needed an extended stay in the hospital and witnessing firsthand how valuable seemingly insignificant distractions are, Child’s Play is at the top of my list of philanthropic organizations I actively support. A gamer-focused charity that provides toys, games, books, and other miscellaneous items for sick kids in children’s hospitals across North America (and the world), attending their Charity Dinner Auction is one of my most favorite events to frequent every year.

Even if you can’t make it to their annual swanky affair, 8-Bit Brigade has a fun way to contribute to the worthy fund with their 3rd Annual Holiday Fundraiser. For a mere $5 donation, you can purchase a raffle ticket that gives you the opportunity to win everything from various Xbox Live Arcade titles to PlayStation 3 games to a Special Edition of Rock Band for the Xbox 360 (including a whole slew of plastic instrument-shaped peripherals). I happily donate a hefty package of my video game-themed cards to their prize pool every year so if you decide to try your luck at their raffle drawing, perhaps you’ll walk away with those! They are also hosting a Gaming Trivia Challenge (a trivia contest covering a variety of video game topics from the 8-bit classics of the 1980s up to recent releases) so go read the specifics and perhaps win a cool prize, all while supporting a worthy charity. The kiddos thank you.

I don’t think it was the same one, but we had a similar event for the kids at Boston Children’s Hospital.

Thanks for helping us publicize this, angel. We’re off to a great start after a few short days. We’re hoping to smash our donation from last year. Hopefully posts like this throughout the videogame community will help us reach our goal!

  4. Thanks for the post and help publicizing our event. And a big thanks to you donating another great pack of your homemade cards.

It is events like this that make me very happy to be part of a great gaming group as well as associated with many others that really care and give back to the community.

Please don’t thank me. The important stuff is all done by you and your community. I just get to write a fun little blurb about it! :)

Good luck with everything. I plan on trying my hand on winning one of those awesome prizes!

Yay! Buy some tickets! Help the kids have a not-so-sucky hospital stay! Win some prizes! Watch UncleGramps draw tickets and prizes on the internet! That is all.

Having spent a good portion of my early childhood in the hospital (18 surgeries by the 5th grade, or for non-Americans, by age 11) I can truely say how valuable programs like this are.

True, dat, cbd. I wish these guys were around when I was a kid. I too spent too much time in the old germ town. Maybe I’ll win some bs cards!
