Yet Another Anniversary

halo

Halo: Combat Evolved was released as a launch title for the original Xbox gaming system back on November 15th, 2001 which means today is the seven year anniversary of the world’s introduction to everybody’s favorite Spartan supersoldier. In honor of this magically numbered celebration, halo.bungie.org is asking for your Halo-related stories in the form of “reminiscences, great plays, real-life meetups, and fun events”. Go contribute your own tale or simply enjoy reading what other Halo fanatics have to say. I’ve tried to draft something but haven’t been able to find the right words yet. Plus, I can’t remember my hbo password. Doh!

I stand by my previous statement.
Halo kept me sane when life all went to shit around me in third year of Uni.
Without it’s welcoming distraction, and stress reliving tendencies I would never have got myself back on my feet as quickly as I did.

What would I have done with my life without Halo?

Halo is one of the reasons I decided to try and pursue a career in the games industry.
The dream of working for Bungie someday is what drives me.
Then there is all the fun I had with my friends playing splitscreen.
    Good times!

Same here DeepCee, same here. Bungie is a great studio that makes great games, and If it weren’t for Halo, I would not know what to do with my life.

Where would I be without Halo? Well, for starters I’d be a couple thousand dollars richer, my livingroom wouldn’t be home to three sets of Master Chief armor, 1 shotgun, 1 H3 magnum, 1 H2 Pistol, 1 Energy Sword, 1 Gravity Hammer and a wide assortment of fake grenades. On a more serious note, I wouldn’t have met such amazingly talented people, be working as an artist for a quarterly electronic magazine that passes Bungie’s eyes, or meet fun and sociable people in this community. Although, I think BS and myself feel a different passion for the chief ;).

    Happy 7th Anniversary all.

    Cheers,
    Kensai

Well Halo: CE (and the original xbox) came out here on March 14, 2002, so that’s when I’m throwing my party.

Halo: Combat Evolved had a single player Campaign that beats the pants off most games made these days, and a Co-op that was literally endlessly fun… no, really, a friend and I spent 12 hours on a single mission. Yes, 12, and yes, one mission, and no, we weren’t bored afterward, or during. It was great just screwing around in the game and trying to break it. Halo 2 and 3 don’t even slightly match up… it’s like holding a torch to a candle… then holding them up to the sun. They can sort of be compared to one another, but when they are measured up against the natural one, they just can’t even compare…

I like to think of it as Halo: Combat Evolved was a stand-alone title that’s still waiting for a true sequal to be made, and that these new developers came along to make Halo 2 and Halo 3, but couldn’t even match up to the magic that was Halo: CE. Sure, this new Dev made a beafier multiplayer, but who needs that when the Campaign is more amazing than playing 500 hours of multiplayer. On that note, I checked out how many hours I’ve spent playing Halo 3 online in matches (you can check that out on your service record) and after almost 2 years… it’s only at like 30… it only counts up what time you’ve spent in Ranked matches themselves, not custom, Forge, or just waiting in Lobby’s. Check yours out… you’ll be surprised.

I’m going to assume you know Bungie made all three games, right?

Halo CE was great, but I think people fall victim to nostalgia. I’ve greatly enjoyed all three. The first one was more amazing because it WAS the first one, but still.

Halo 3 has only been out one year, not two ;)

Where are you seeing this time spent statistic? I’m logged in at B.net and I don’t see it.

I did find it on Halocharts. 655 hours and counting, on my main tag.

    Happy Anniversary, Halo: Combat Evolved.

  12. I didn’t really get into halo until my friend convinced me to get xbox live and halo 2. Then I went back and played halo 1, and it was full of win! I have to remember to thank my friend for the push.

Halo and I have the same birthday =]
