The New Xbox Experience Lament

If you are anything like me, you eagerly signed up for The New Xbox Experience Preview Program, not necessarily because you were dying to get your hands on the new supposedly slick interface but because getting in early and showing off your status is fucking cool, right? So the acceptance emails went out and you excitedly checked your inbox only to find it as depressingly empty as usual. Then yesterday Microsoft decided to continue to torture you with the announcement that they are welcoming in another batch of early previewers. Slightly jaded from discovering Major Nelson’s line of “We’re looking for a few thousand participants, so your chances of making it in are good” was complete bullshit, you check your inbox again but this time not with bated breath. Whether it’s because someone from Microsoft hates you with every ounce of their being or because luck simply wasn’t on your side, you continue to sit on the outside of the The New Xbox Experience Preview Program fence. Do not fret, I am here to keep you company. Together we can sing this song created by YouTube user sethcheek appropriately titled NXE Lament. Let’s get drunk and wash away our woes by belting this out at the top of our lungs while simultaneously and uncontrollably sobbing. It will be a much needed catharsis, I promise.

i wasnt chosen either… and i have family who work for microsoft who have been watching netflixs and doing other awesome NXE things for about 2 months now… i hate them. and thier “were not allowed to discuss works in progress” attitudes.

I got it. You really aren’t missing much. There’s lots of nifty things but, half of the things like parties are pointless until everyone has it. Netflix has crap for selection. It’s mostly older stuff, you can only get the new releases by mail. The most annoying thing I’ve run into is the “Download Game to HD”. Even after putting Halo 3 on my Hard Drive, I still have to put the disc in or it won’t run. It’s understandable due to lack of DRM on games, but it still blows Brutes.

The NXE Beta has no xbox live support, did we mention that?
I don’t feel as bad now for not getting chosen. I mean, if Hawty McBloggy doesn’t get a shot, poor slobs like me have no hope. My only solace is 11 days till the real deal. We all should go play Halo and wash away our woes.

The NXE isnt supposed to mean you dont need the disc, it simply helps games to load faster while and quieter. Kotaku has a neat side by side comparison of HDD Games vs DVD Games. Check it out. =)
