Bring on the Barf Bags

As someone who frequently suffers from motion sickness (whether it be in the car, watching a movie, or playing video games), this rather repulsive scenario will very likely be a reality for me. I have taken medicine to play games before and just may have to do it with this particular title as well. Will I be able to make it farther than Gabe did without Dramamine? Only time will tell but for now I’m busy gathering buckets in preparation.

  1. i have a friend like that, but that really only happens when she’s shwasted… but i guess that’s a little different. :-)

Ugh…know what you mean. Playing the Prey demo made me woozy.

  3. Das Kalk says:

I know where this is coming from, but it doesn’t really make you sick at all…

    =) This comic seems a little…convienient… ;)

Good thing I don’t get motion sick.

Ugh, I hear you. I’ve taken dramamine to play Burnout: Paradise City (something about doing a lot of donuts/stunts makes me ill). The worst for me, though, was the hovercraft/fan boat areas in Half Life 2. The part made me so very queasy.

I might have to stock up on non-drowsy formula for Mirror’s Edge.

@DeepCee: x10! I couldn’t even get halfway through Prey! The only game more nauseating was Wolfentstein 3D on the pc.

I’ve never been on a boat or plane, so I’m not absolutely sure if I suffer from motion sickness or not. But I’ve played the XBLA port of Marathon: Durandal and everybody online says the quickness of movement is sickening. I always say “what?, after playing this game for a while, every other game seems like a bloated snail covered with molasses.”

  9. I don’t get motion sickness from games. From those spinning carnival rides, yes. But not from games.

I feel bad for you. :( It must suck to not be able to play games comfortably.

You adapt. Campaigns are done in small doses (typically somewhere around 45 minutes for me personally). Like others have mentioned, some games are worse than others. Prey was a bitch for me as well and required medicine. As does Beautiful Katamari. Some games are completely off limits (Marble Madness and Geometry Wars!); others you simply pop a Dramamine and call it good.

The thing getting me lately is taking screenshots (in Halo 3). Detaching the camera and zipping around makes me feel ill in about ten minutes flat. :(

I don’t get motion sickness at all – or sick ever really. But for some reason Beautiful Katamari makes me queasy to my stomach.

  12. DeepCee says:

I’ve never had a problem with video games until Prey. Nothing else has got me sick yet.

I do get airsick and I found out a few years ago I get sea sick too. I found that out back when I was in the middle east when my dad got me permission for a once in a lifetime chance to come with him to go on board a friggin oil tanker. That thing was huge! So we went in a tug boat to get to the tanker and that thing rocked like crazy.

FPSs make me motion sick…Especially Half Life 2. So Kato I know where you’re coming from. Hawty you should do a poll of gamers who get motion sick and their demographics and see if you can come up with a source. My theory is that is has to do with height. I’m 4’10″ and I’ve heard you’re a bit on the petite size as well.

  14. The wife gets motion sickness from any shooter.

    Started with Goldeneye.
