Halo 3: Recon Box Art

Recon box art

Considering we just got the first official details about Halo 3: Recon approximately 24 hours ago, it seems awfully early to already have the box art. Regardless, Kotaku brings word that not only is this the cover but also that the game itself will come as a standalone disc  and will not be available as a download. I’ll leave you with a juicy little tidbit from IGN:

When Halo 3: Recon launches, it will come bundled with two map packs that will be released as DLC beforehand. One is titled the Mythic Map Pack (coming early 2009) and another is still unnamed. Not only will Recon include a full 1000 achievement point, but the Mythic pack will have new achievements of its own. That’s about all we know about Halo 3: Recon so far, but we’ll be bringing you updates on this standalone retail expansion (sorry, no downloadable version) in the months to come.

I think I’ve died and gone to heaven. Or something similar that has great box art and ODST’s.

If its a separate game all together, that would piss me off to no end.

I chased your link Kelly and you don’t have a source either. Where did you get the image out of curiosity? I’m just trying to figure out how “official” this is.

It says Display Box Only, so it may or may not be the final box art. Personally, I think it’s really good. It has a theme (dark, worn), a main color (blue), and it basically shows you exactly what you want to see (ODSTs with modified SMGs, yo). The only change I may advise is moving the “Halo 3: Recon” logo to the top or bottom of the box, and shifting the image up or down accordingly, simply because text right in the middle, overlapping most of the central image is a bit tacky and almost cluttered. But yeah, other than that one change, it’s great.

It will be on disc only and will not be available for download. We know this because it is classified by Xbox Live as a separate game (seen in the marketplace). And if it was going to be available for download as an Xbox Live Arcade game, it would not be on a disc at all, so we can rule that out. Also I heard it stated somewhere that this game uses a whole new engine and is much much different than Halo 3.

The Halo 2 Multiplayer Map Pack was available as a standalone disc and also as a download. I wonder if there is any chance this will be similar. It certainly seems like there will be a lot of content with it so the standalone disc only seems pretty plausible to me.

Xbox 360 Fanboy is pretty reliable when it comes to Info.
But in their post they even say it’s not officially legit, yet.
    But it could be.

Thanks for the link Kelly! It just seems so early for official box art. Oh well. Hopefully Bungie will get some official information up for us soon in regards to all of the finer details of everything. :)

Wait, so is the mythic map pack going to be out for Halo3, or for Recon? or is it going to be like, you load up Recon, and you can still Play Halo3 from it? or what?

I must say that the atmosphere in this, what I consider concept box art untill further notice, is much better than that of the original Halo 3 box and I have always had a fondness for the ODST armour permutation over Masterchief’s Mjolnir armour.

I think pricepoint-wise $30-$40 is reasonable, but I do think that Microsoft will reach a broader audience by doing a Warhawk-esque release. That is to say, release a retail version with a few extras or something, and then offer a DLC version that is missing a material item. Another thing that they may consider is also doing a limited edition of the game that includes some more stuff but at the full price of a game which would be around $60. That cover art is very nice, I wonder which Bungie artist(s) worked on it?

Oh come on, did this honestly suprise anyone? You can’t fit an entire game complete with full next-gen engine and features on a simple download, and if Bungie released the Multiplayer map Pack disc for Halo it was obvious eventually they’d release some maps on disc. BUt it doesn’t feel like it’d be the final art, I mean; look at it, the ODST is in the rain, he was in the rain in the trailer, maybe they just slapped some CG image modeled after the trailer on a box. Or maybe it is the final art and I’m a bit to skeptic. Still, while it certainly looks nice a different box image would be nice. Like the Standard Halo 3’s box art, that blew me away. This is just a still of something we’ve already seen.

I thought Halo 3’s boxart was awful.
    I like this one though.

SOO, is there any point in downloading (and probably paying) the Mythic Maps, if you’re going to get them FREE with this game anyway? Unless, you want them half a year early that is…

But for people like me (kid with no money), I should probably just wait until th egame comes out right?

Now, at Gamestop we let you pre-order when its announced, but for the full 60 dollar price, so its better to drop 5 bucks on it rather then pay for the whole thing (which we don’t know the price yet) up front.

Socket, if you’re a Halo and or Microsoft fan you gotta be aware that they LOVE MONEY. Sides Mythic is due out soon anyway, this disc isn’t for a year, not only that it’s gonna probably be about as much has Halo 3 was. Also what wasn’t there to like about Halo 3’s box art? I thought it was beautiful.
