The first official magazine of the 405th Infantry Division was officially released last week and it’s a doozy. Weighing in as a 20mb (in PDF format) download, it is cram-packed full of interesting news as it relates primarily to the costuming community but also to the general Halo fan community as well. From tips to making your own armor to an interview with author Eric S. Nylund (author of the Halo novels) to various pieces of Halo fan art and fiction, it’s an interesting read. I have a particular distaste for the eMagazine format but I did enjoy skimming through many of the articles. For those of you that drooled over the deliciously wonderful pictures they released last week (Jillybean, I’m looking at you!), the Marine centerfold spread was glaringly absent. Oh well, maybe next month.

They make their stuff out of molds with hardening foam or so right? I’ve seen plenty of the “pepakura” armor, which is usually made out of card stock paper, resin, and fiber glass, and it never comes out look very well.

Thanks for the love Hawty, seems this is a 405th weekend for you ^^. The two page format was fixed and a single page format is available now as the printer friendly one. As for molds, they are usually created from clay, as for the casts, they are usually made from Smooth On 300, it’s a urethane plastic. All those terms are covered right up front in the legend for you though on the zine.
We love you Hawty, Cheers,
Kensai

Master Chief’s Face! I’m not sure he’s old enough to be in a centerfold.

Just for the record Devin from Blue Realm Studios (Master Chief in the photos) is 27, also regarding Pepakura armor dneefpooz… you might not want to be so haste on saying it all looks bad. Infact that marine you are drooling over is pep based ;). Sorry, I’m a Q&A Member on the forums at the 405th, ’tis my job to educate and inform. I’m glad you guys are enjoying the read, and I hope you enjoy the artwork myself and the other artists designed as well. Issue #2 is under way and will be released in December, many improvements are being put into practice and expect a bigger read next time to keep you warm for the holiday season.
Cheers,
Kensai

Wow, this is getting pretty wide-spread now :)

Oh wow. I had assumed it was made through other methods. I guess I’ve just been seeing too many sets from kids on youtube who didn’t finish it properly.

It’s always a pleasure Hawty, thanks for having us. You always been gracious to us and we appreciate it. Expect to hear back from us again in December. I’ll see what I can do about that marine spread for ya next issue :P. I know there’s an animated .gif of Devin and Adam dancing on a stripper pole on their way to visit Bungie on the party bus floating around LOL. I’ll do my best to keep dropping in, you know us crazy armor makers though, sleep optional.
Cheers,
Kensai
