One in the morning last night found me engaged in my second most favorite evening activity, traversing the virtual battlefield of Halo 3 in search of that ever elusive win. After accepting an invite from a few friends, I was abruptly greeted with, “Hawty McBloggy hasn’t finished campaign on Legendary?!” and such began my pathetic ramblings. I told the often repeated story that I had in fact finished campaign on Legendary but for some reason the achievement had never unlocked. I also said I thought I had found all the terminals but alas, yet another still locked achievement. Whenever I tell that particular sob story, usually I am met with skepticism but last night a few of the fine folks from Ascendant Justice (who, rumor has it, are even hotter than they are knowledgeable about the Halo trilogy, as if that’s even possible) made it their personal mission to help me unlock those achievements.
Their first idea was to load up Arrival. After we finished watching the short introductory cutscene, my “Campaign Complete: Legendary” achievement instantly popped up. If I would have known the fix was that easy, I would have done it long ago! Next up were the terminals. We ended up doing all of them, making sure I got the red triangle each time. Their best guess was that I had backed out too early with one of them before. Regardless, another achievement unlocked! Then we worked on some of the smaller achievements I still hadn’t gotten. As I can only shoot stationary targets with the laser, they had me pick up invincibility and then took me up in a hornet. They got me super close to a banshee so there was no way I could miss it and then one year and three days after Halo 3 was released, I unlocked the “Too Close to the Sun” achievement. About fucking time, eh? They were also determined to get me “Headshot Honcho” so they wandered around lowering shields while I sniped trees, rocks, and everything except for the targets. Two hours and four achievements later, I had received a very nice 175 point boost to my gamerscore. Despite the fact that I am the biggest n00b in Halo history, they never made me feel bad and were nothing but patient while I prayed and sprayed my way through the objectives. While I typically don’t worry about the achievement side of things, I’m pretty motivated right now to finish up the meta-game ones I still need. I think I may have found an activity for tomorrow’s Xbox Live downtime.
*Much love to Jironimo and VA1OR, even though neither of them will probably let me touch the laser or sniper in matchmaking again.

That’s really cool. It’s always nice to hear good experiences with others in Halo 3 vs. the usual, “STFU F4G” type stuff. Ascendant Justice is a must read for any Halo fan. The articles there are amazing. If you guys read this keep it up!

Gah, I still need that Legendary achievement. I never have anyone to help me with the Cortana Level, so I won’t getting it any time soon… :(
Posted by Jim 028 on September 28, 2008 at 1:35 pm
At last, how many times have you tried to organise doing this with Forum members, and the Mid World guys :D
Posted by bs angel on September 28, 2008 at 1:42 pm
No kidding, eh Jim? But now we need to do the Ghost one! LOL, …
Socket, even though we had four people when we did it, it was still rough going (especially with some of the skulls we had turned on). That level is so hard.

Man I hated cortana on legendary, especially going solo…..
But if anyone ever needs help in campaign, just message me and I’d be glad to help!
Posted by ashame on September 28, 2008 at 1:56 pm
Lol I got all those achievements on my first play through
All I need is some multiplayer ones, which I will prolly never obtain…
Posted by Crazyeye0 on September 28, 2008 at 2:15 pm
Heh, achievements are always better with friends =)
It’s best that you do scoring by yourself though, unless the people just soften them up and you dash in and shoot everything up, then you could win, I found the meta achievements too hard with other people tbh.
Posted by angelofbacon on September 28, 2008 at 2:16 pm
Same thing happened to me and a friend of mine with the legendary thing. I just redid the last level and it unlocked as well.
Posted by Dan (tehviruss) on September 28, 2008 at 2:24 pm
Nice job ;-)
Another possibility with the terminal achievement is that you may have unlocked some of them on solo and some on co-op. You need all of them on one, you can’t mix.

i too have been going after long forgotten achievements i had never bothered to get. Although i didnt put them off to to a lack of aiming ability unlike some people :)
Posted by Chewbeccawacca on September 28, 2008 at 3:03 pm
I got lucky with the ‘to close to the sun’ one. When I was fighting the scarab on The Storm one of the banshees flew low enough for me to get a target lock with one of the missle pod turrets.

well done Angel! Some friends and I did the Ghost one last night. it was pretty fun to see 4 ghosts going single file through an exploding Halo. even in some of the harder moments, i couldnt help but laugh as the leader of the line would take a wrong turn, falling straight to the depths, and with 3 others following him down into the depths. :] ..good times.

Watch ‘Arrival’ on Legendary with IWHBYD on a few times. You’ll laugh, I promise.

Lucky you Hawty. I still have a ton of achievements to unlock for halo 3 :( and i don’t think i will ever unlock them.

You sound like you’re really fun to play with on Xbox live..Too bad your friends list is likely full and I’m 3 hours ahead of you, and I have school in the mornings…

@ Das Kalk
Are you german? Three hours wouldn’t be enough, but your name looks german..
Btw, I’m german, so that’s why I’m wondering.

What’s really funny for me right now is that I literally just helped a few of my friends get some of their achievements today. It’s something I can relate to right now… oh, how I wish the Halo 3 Campaign was as exciting as Halo CE’s was… o’well, I’ll just wait for the Expansion and hope that it’s better. I’m thinking Call of Duty 4, only in the Halo universe.
Posted by CrazedOne1988 on September 28, 2008 at 5:59 pm
I ran through the annual achievement 5 times helping friends get it.
But it was awesome each time!
Posted by crunchbite on September 28, 2008 at 6:09 pm
eh, i never bothered with campaign after i beat legendary and somehow all my data got erased (that included the skulls, so no hayabusa :/)
Posted by snyper on September 28, 2008 at 6:48 pm
It was fun getting all the campaign achievements, they were somewhat easy to get, seeing as I can’t get LIVE and have nothing but time to do campaign… Anyways, I’d love to help with the Cortana level, but alas I cannot =( I beat it in a little over 30 mins and still have the video saved, if anyone is interested. I can put it up whenever I manage to get back over to my friends house with my box >.> I offer a tip though, don’t worry about killing all the flood, it will pretty much always get you killed on one way or another. As for online achievements, I plan to, no shame here, just ask people for help on getting them, as I don’t like FFA and don’t plan to play it after getting the achievements if and when I manage to get on.
Posted by Das Kalk on September 28, 2008 at 7:37 pm
@ socket, No I’m actually from Canada, there’s not a speck of German in me, It’s just a random GT I chose since my brother is Das Zitrone (The Lemon…Get it? Lemon…Kalk means lime…). The reason I’m 3 hours ahead of angel is because I’m in Ottawa and she’s…uh i don’t know in Washington state? So we’re on opposite coasts.

I didn’t find Cortana difficult on Solo Legendary, just slow going (as in, it took me like 2 hours to complete). Lot’s of taking cover. The room that’s the real pain in the backside is the crashed pelican room. NOTHING for cover, and a relentless push from the flood. I just run past it (usually take 3 or 4 tries). Best weapons, IMO, are Sword and choice of Carbine, Needler, or Plasma Rifle. Brute Shots, even on legendary, seem to do massive damage on the ranged Pure forms.
Also, if you collect the skull in the Power Core room and finish the level with it in your hands, you start Halo with a Laser.
Nothing compared to Halo CE, though. Took weeks to beat that sucker on legendary (beating H:CE on Legendary should be an achievement worth like 500 points).

@rhubarb: I did that, and I got Sarge saying “hey Arbiter, I left you a present and I’m walking away! HAHA!”
Posted by RIFT on September 28, 2008 at 10:03 pm
A lot of people said they had trouble with Cortana. I had almost none whatsoever. I mean, for one, the Flood are bugged when it comes to their AI (they won’t attack you when they’re traveling, unless you shoot them before they get to their travel point… just try running past all the Flood on Floodgate and you’ll see what I’m saying).
Aside from that, all you need are dual-plasma rifles, or any Brute weapon to melee them. If you turn on the skull that makes their resistance max out, but their weaknesses become greater, melees kill them instantly, and plasma rifles destory them in 4 to 8 shots… which is nothing if you’re dual-wielding.
Also, my friend’s and I also ran the Annual achievement…. it’s not as fun when one of the 4 people can’t pilot a Ghost for crap, but it is rather funny when we’re all single file boosting through the tunnels, shit blowing up all around us.
Posted by davyboy94 on September 28, 2008 at 11:25 pm
i really need help with the meta games too :S
Posted by SwampFox on September 28, 2008 at 11:26 pm
Cortana was so hard, and the wordt part is I got all the way to after you rescue Cortana and are on your way back when I had to eat dinner and without thinking I shut off my console (without ever having “saved and quit”) and had to do the whole damn thing again. That being said the only mission I couldn’t beat on Legendary by myself was…the name escapes me now but it’s the one where you have to clear the anti-air Wraiths. Right before the one with the Flood
Posted by rhubarb on September 28, 2008 at 11:59 pm
Mizzy, try it again. There’s several versions.

I did the same thing. Went through all on legendary on co-op and no acheivement.
When you’re host you can check which levels you have completed and on which difficulty as well as if you did it on solo or co-op.
Loaded up the The Arrival on legendary and got the achievement! Weird thing is that I got the acheivement for completing on Legendary but my service record says I only completed on Normal (or Heroic…I can’t remember)
Working on the terminals and meta games tomorrow while Live is down.
Posted by CrazedOne1988 on September 29, 2008 at 12:28 am
lol I love when we are single file ghosts in the tunnels, and the leader takes the middle path where you can’t make the jump, and we all fall one after the other.
Posted by PikminGod on September 29, 2008 at 7:09 am
i’ve done the annual achievement 4 times now….i hate people that can’t drive ghosts…hate them all
Posted by TheChrisD on September 29, 2008 at 9:29 am
In almost as much glory, I eventually unlocked Maybe Next Time Buddy during some DLC FFA a few days ago.
Then I got EXP banned for playing with guys with guests :(

I take it you want the Kantana. Just to prove you can do it. Give n00bs everywhere hope.
Posted by AT-AT on September 29, 2008 at 9:45 am
Tilt also boosts Weaknesses? I didn’t know that. Well then, just what are the strengths and weaknesses of flood then (and I assume Pure Forms have different ones)?
Posted by MR Jones93 sk8 on September 29, 2008 at 3:54 pm
Hmm… Maybe I could help you with some achievements :)

Enjoy!

Fixed! Any comments containing more than one link are automatically sent to the spam box. I recover them quickly though. Your coding had a beginning and an end but no middle so I simply took it out and left the plain links. :)
