I don't know if Rat's teacher is a conspiracy theorist, but the teacher's actions are entirely callous and basically WRONG. While 1980's American foreign policy aided the Taliban, America (and especially Americans) did NOT cause 9/11.

I hope you don't like your teacher, Rat, because he's an asshole. How can someone punish a person who lost loved ones in a horrible tragedy to blame that tragedy on their own country? And we have no proof America caused 9/11 and lots of proof al-Qaeda did!

It strikes me that Rat's teacher is making his students defend a belief with no substance behind it. The teacher is exploiting the educational system to advance his own THEORIES! Unless he asks you to debate and support the THEORY that America caused the slaughter of innocent civilians (which is still unkind to those who lost loved ones), then he is not actually allowing his students any independent thought!

I applaud Rat for standing up in memory of his loved ones and defying and challenging such an opinion. That is what students should be learning: how to think and defend themselves and their beliefs! They should not be learning the lie that their country killed their family! Freedom of Speech and of opinions are a great thing in this country, but that teacher needs to learn RESPECT!

I am on your side, Desert Rat, as is much of the United States of America, as well as the free world and free thinkers everywhere.

Desert - it sounds like your English teacher is one of the few that believes in the whole conspiracy theories surrounding 9/11, how there were explosives placed in the towers, the mysterious collapse of building 7, and probably the faces of angels/demons in the smoke. I used to be one of those for a short time after a friend of mine had me watch Loose Change, and for a while i fell into it. But then rationalism came into play, and once again i am in my right mind of believing that conspiracy theories are just that----theories. I suggest that you find your teacher a copy of '9/11 Conspiracies: Fact or Fiction' that aired on the History Channel. Might put his mind in the right place again.
