A Different Kind of Needler

xbox cross-stitch

Cross-stitch is one of the oldest forms of embroidery, the earliest known sample (originating from the United States) of which dates back to the days of the Pilgrims. While I originally thought this was something only done back in the days when there wasn’t anything better to do (ya know, when there weren’t video games), apparently the practice of using X-shaped stitches to form a picture is still alive and well. So alive and well in fact that one rather crafty gamer made a beautifully simple piece that says, “Home is where the (controller) is“. While the creator made hers with an Xbox 360 controller, she also offers a design with an old school NES controller as well. If she puts a pattern out that says, “My face is where Master Chief’s codpiece belongs”, I will totally learn how to do this whole cross-stitch thing.

something about the simplicity . . . and the contrast of the subject matter with the process of creation. this is great. i linked over to her site and got a sense that this woman seems to have a great balance between technology and traditional media/craft-type stuff. Gots me all nostalicizing, wanting to draw, paint or build something with clay . . .
