Shield Door Campers Suck

Normally I love to watch compilation videos of amazing Halo 3 kills. Sometimes the skill is astounding, other times it is simply the luck that is incredible. Either way, they are typically quite entertaining. The latest episode in the Halo 3: Confirmed Kills series just irks me though. There are a handful of clips that just thinking about them is enough to make my blood boil. People that camp the shield doors on Snowbound with a mauler or a shotty and refuse to come up for air for the entire game? They suck. People that line up their heads in a perfect single file line right when other people fire the sniper rifle but absolutely refuse to ever do it for me? They suck. People that think they are completely bad ass just because they know how to spawn kill? They suck. So there you go, enjoy the video! (Or not.)

Wound Up with Massive Fail

penny arcade ad

Penny Arcade’s national ad campaign for their new game, On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, was not only hilariously brilliant but it was also ridiculously successful. Raking in an impressive $330,000 in only three days, On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness has quickly become the highest-grossing Xbox Live Arcade debut ever. Instead of using the typical positive quips from various reviews as most games do, Penny Arcade decided to go the opposite route. They found a troll-type comment made by someone who is apparently not a Penny Arcade fan and turned it into their ad.

Seeing the success of that type of ad campaign, I have decided to launch my own personal ad campaign. I would like to say it was difficult rounding up horrible comments about myself and my blog but in reality, the only difficult part was sifting through the sheer amount of negative messages I had to choose from. Finally, a good use for all the hate mail!

Exclusive: Dead Space Development Director Talks Level Design

dead space screen

Perhaps you have heard of a deliciously frightening game expected out later this year called Dead Space. If you enjoy copious amounts of blood, aliens, violence, and terror (and really, who doesnt?), this scary third-person shooter is probably already on your radar. The talented developers behind Dead Space have a blog they keep udpated in which they give everybody behind the scenes peeks into various aspects of the making of this spine chilling title. I’m excited to bring you their next blog entry for a few different reasons. First, it won’t be available on their website for a handful of days so you’ll be a little bit more in the know than usual. Second, it’s focus is on level design and Paul Mathus (the author of this particular blog entry) was kind enough to give advice to those individuals looking to break into the industry. Third, I got to say “exclusive”. Exclusive, exclusive, exclusive. I’m pretty sure that makes me a complete bad ass. I suppose we should get to the actual blog entry at some point so off we go. Following up his first post, here is the latest from Dead Space’s Development Director Paul Mathus (be sure to watch the latest trailer at the end of the article as well):

Halo 3 ModTage

Modding has quite the negative reputation amongst the general gaming population, primarily because of all the random douchebags who cheated their way to a moon back in the days of Halo 2. Thankfully the frustration of spawning in the sky and being killed by a magic headshot before your feet even touch the ground are over, but modding is still a word synonymous with cheating. It isn’t always cheating though and sometimes, in the right hands, it can actually be a pretty cool thing. This montage shows clips of some leaked mods in Halo 3 but I don’t doubt there is an absolute treasure trove of even more mods hidden behind closed doors. Until those doors open, we’ll just have to enjoy the small glimpses we can get. Oh, and you may hate the word “developers” by the time the video is over. You have been warned.
