Modding has quite the negative reputation amongst the general gaming population, primarily because of all the random douchebags who cheated their way to a moon back in the days of Halo 2. Thankfully the frustration of spawning in the sky and being killed by a magic headshot before your feet even touch the ground are over, but modding is still a word synonymous with cheating. It isn’t always cheating though and sometimes, in the right hands, it can actually be a pretty cool thing. This montage shows clips of some leaked mods in Halo 3 but I don’t doubt there is an absolute treasure trove of even more mods hidden behind closed doors. Until those doors open, we’ll just have to enjoy the small glimpses we can get. Oh, and you may hate the word “developers” by the time the video is over. You have been warned.

Wow… there’s some pretty impressive work in there.
My advice: watch the video muted. The sounds are incredibly irritating.

ive played some of these maps, well… three of them. (my friend is a beginning modder and downloaded a bunch to get some ideas and they were on local games, or system linked, so nothing wrong with that) my favorite thing to do is drive just the tank gun and try to go places.
there is nothing really wrong with h3 modding, cause you cant bring it into match making, its not like in halo 2, when i played a neutral flag capture the flag match, and the game was over in about 30 seconds, cause the person was moving at the speed of light (o, we were playing so it wasnt standbying) if only we could rewatch films back then.

Modding is one of the big things I miss about the PC gaming community.
Back in the days of Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy I was part of a clan that had numerous skilled modellers and skinners, and I had loads of fun learning how to build multiplayer maps and the sort. My friend Rob has just finished his fourth year university project using XSI and I have to say it looks like a fun program to work with. Almost enough to tempt me back to the desktop and away from the Xbox.

I was warned and dare I say it. I hate the word “developers” now. Steve Ballmer is the ban of my existence now. Get it out of my head. Please!

Developers!?
Honestly, I find modding very cool but understand why it has such a negative impact, thanks to the abundance of cheating in Halo 2. I wish that Bungie would “okay” these and at least assure that there will be no bannings for playing these maps in custom games. I’d really like to try some of them out, but will not risk my account doing so.
For anyone that’s interested, here’s what the official word is:
“When we asked Bungie themselves, they said we should tell you that saving them and using them is a bad idea. They’re not banning for it now, but they might decide to ban you for it later.” (evilcam)

modding is really cool but i’ve never seen the point of it really

Why oh why do people put the dumbest songs in their videos?

No good mods actually. Havent watched the whole thing, only 60% – but all they do is putting elites, spartans and “oracles” onto the maps. “Wow” I modded.
Sorry, dont think this is it. No skinning, no new effects. Nothing.

I’ve played on the modded Valhalla map with the trees. It seemed pretty stupid at first, but it’s pretty cool. Basic, but nonetheless.
I really want to get my hands on the Guardian one though. I liked the added fog. :D

I’ve seen most of those mods and they’re really stupid. Wow, you put more Windmills on Last Resort and you’ve got clones everywhere. Why don’t these guys try something useful or that has a point to it? Like putting some of the campaign equipment in there (cloaking, auto-turrets, invincibility) or the mounted missile pods, etc. There’s modding and then there’s just screwing around.

Song names? I want to download at least the second one.
