Not bad these prices. I have a USB keyboard for the 360, since I played a lot of Final Fantasy XI.

Is the chatpad worth getting? I can see it coming in handy occasionally, but is it good value for money?

The buttons on the chat pad are not as sensitive as I would like.
But it is nice to be able to text/type in games without taking your hands off the controls.

It is good for halo 3 screenshots too.

And i’ve used it on GTA4 too.

Id say, for $19…its worth it. IF you’ll use it enough.

Ive been tempted by the chat pad before, but i did some research and it does not work in windows like the controller or wireless headset. I was hoping to use it there as well. If that ever starts working, I’ll prolly get one.

AusQB, on an article about the messaging kit when it was first released, someone that goes by Devindra Hardawar had this to say about it :

I actually have high hopes for that mini-keyboard because it will make the 360 a far more capable machine for MMO’s. Whenever I jump into Phantasy Star Universe (sad, yes I know), I still prefer to pull out my trust USB keyboard to communicate rather than use the headset. I think I do it mainly because I want to recreate my old Dreamcast Phantasy Star Online days ;)

Now instead of straddling a keyboard on the couch or on my lap, I can just thumb type. It’s the sort of accessory that really only appeals to a small group of users, so it’s even more amazing to see it released.

And as mentioned already, it will be key to the 360 supporting any MMO’s that don’t support voice chatting–

So while it’s not a worthwhile purchase for me, it can certainly be a valuable accessory for someone else.

I actually paid full price for the chat pad. I still use a wireless USB keyboard at home for text entry (primarily titles and descriptions of Halo 3 screenshots and film clips), but I run a weekly LAN game away from home and it’s much more portable and very helpful for that. (New players wasting precious seconds entering their handle when creating a profile can be excruciating when you only have a little more than 1 hour of game time.) I think one of the best features of it is the back-light for the keys that comes on automatically when you start typing. It’s not the greatest keyboard in the world (which is why I still wind up using the wireless USB one), but it’s definitely usable.

Personally, I’m eyeing the 512MB memory card. I already have a 64MB card that I use with a USB “Xbox 360 Transfer Kit” on my PC to archive all the Halo 3 saved films, forged maps, game types, etc. that I want. (Take that, 100 custom content item limit!) Sometimes 64MB gets a little small for my purposes. 512MB would be plenty.

Why oh why don’t they make a black chatpad to match the Elite?? I’ve been waiting to get one in the hopes that they would make one. :(

I wouldn’t mind owning a wireless headset, but $40 is still too steep for me. Nice to see some price drops though.
