I’ve Been Etched and Sketched
May 8, 2008 13 Comments
I’m a bit of an Etch-A-Sketchist fangirl. And by bit I mean I worship the aluminum powder that he meticulously etches his amazingly detailed pictures on. After I compiled all of his video game related sketches in one convenient post, I sent him an email with a picture attached in hopes that he would recreate it in his own unique Etch-A-Sketch style. Just when I thought I couldn’t be any more of a fangirl, I get this incredible picture kindly deposited in my inbox. Turns out I could be more of a fangirl, who knew?
The picture I submitted (me as Cortana, originally done by Pavel Dolgov)

The same picture in all of its Etch-A-Sketch glory

*A special thank you to Etch-A-Sketchist for this amazing picture!

that is amazing!
very, veeeery well done.
=)
very well done indeed and for something made with such a simple machine I see very little flaws beside the lack of color or proper shading wich are impossible to do on such a device you’re nose has widened because of wich your eyes also are to far apart and your left arm is more muscular.
but I myself would never be able to do even a circle on one of those machines so I congratulate on a job well done!
The one thing that makes Etch-A-Sketch art so amazing is that there’s no Ctrl-Z. If you mess up, that’s it.
It’s quite interesting how much you actualy look like Cortana…
Nice!
You know what really impresses me about this? I mean, I’m pretty good at drawing (anime/comic style), but this is different.
You’ve got 2 directions to draw, the y axis and the x axis, and all the degrees in between… with means knowing and learning how to control the verying degrees.
Back to my point. What’s impressive is that anyone can right or draw something on the spot. You can lift up your pen or pencil. With this, it’s one continuous line, meaning this guy has to plan out a drawing before he actually does it…. like, from start to finish… there’s no such thing as a rough draft, or a quick concept, you just say, “I’ll start here, then 200,000 degrees later, I’ll end up here…. perfect!”
I’d love to see a video of him doing a drawing. I think that would be very cool to see.
A simple “wow”
I like I like!
That’s awesome to the power of 10!
Yeah that is pretty impressive! I think the only thing I remember drawing in my etch a sketch was a ball, but it ended up looking like a banana LOL (then again I was like 10)
Incredible!
This is awesome! And those other etch a sketch pics are awesome too!
