Rorschach Inkblot Test - Blackout

25 04 2008

Our Rorschach Inkblot Test activities formally ended back in February. When the Legendary Map Pack was released (along with three corresponding heatmaps), I began getting requests to start them up again. Apparently people enjoyed analyzing their own and possibly even each other’s entertaining, often hilarious answers. I’m game if you’re game so for a limited time only the inkblot tests are back!

We never examined the answers from our last inkblot activity so that gives us a great place to start. Back on February 15th we used the global heatmap from Foundry which definitely sparked everybody’s imagination. Nick Manning was the first person to notice the resemblance to a face hugger from the Alien film series, and Twilight Ronin, nyota0uhura, wolfy, the other dark, and Nace all saw something disgustingly similar.

Gross. Seriously. Can you imagine? Thankfully Elnea came along shortly after the face hugger reference to distract us with this delightful gem. “Oh, that’s CLEARLY that scene in Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Los Ark where Indy and Marion are tied to a post and the angels of Death are whirling around them.

Is there another answer that can beat that one? I think not (!) so let’s look at this week’s picture. Today’s Rorschach Inkblot Test image is everybody’s favorite old map but not everybody’s favorite new map. You guessed it, it’s Blackout (and yes, I’m bitter). So tell me, what do you see? Remember, extra nonexistent points for originality!

I see a handheld rotary double-headed hammer.

The vertical line is the handle, and the other two are hammer heads. The one on the left is facing down and the one on the right facing up. Hold a button and the two heads rotate counter-clockwise.

Consider it Homer’s auto-hammer v2.0

reproductive organs (I’m sorry, but it’s what I saw)

complete with ovaries, a maze of fallopian tubes, uterus, and birth canal plus cervix.

no hyperlink for comparison. ask your parents.

Looks like a Jack Hammer to me, with a right handle upside down, heh. That’s the first thing that came to my mind.

Yes…the inside of the female hoo-ha. I’m not getting excited over it or anything, that’s just what it looks like lol

A Shaky Shotgun (06:45:10) :

It is Mjolnir, hammer of Thor. The vertical is Thor’s arm, the hammer head is on the right, and lightning is striking the hammer.

The part on the right is the meat grinder from the Another Brick in the Wall Part II video. I guess the part on the left leads up to it, so it’s a hopper to allow for more kids at a time. Then the extension at the bottom is just for support and stability.

Stop looking at me like that.

sttng7: i always wondered how a see-saw got its name, i imagine because since when you use a see-saw, you go up, then down, and again and again. since your perspective is changing from high to low, you can see everything from an elevated point, but when you return back to the grown, what you have just seen is in past tense…. for instance… “hey look what i can SEE from up here!… oh… nevermind, i only SAW it for a second.”

in response to the inkblot… looks like the workings of a female baby making apparatus.

Either an alliterated T (Like in Medieval times or fancy books) or some sort of snazzy warhammer design that never made it past prototype.

Definitely sure I see a Halo 1 Pistol in there.

Azrylle (16:20:48) :

No, I DEFINITELY saw the uterus and ovaries first… I hardly had even looked at it before I thought that’s what it looked like, so everybody else who saw that first, don’t feel bad! lol

pwkwsfi (10:35:04) :

have you noticed that the location of the air lift is where the babies come out? Bungie must have meant to present this imagery.

I definitely see an arm holding up a gravity hammer horizontally
