Halo 3 Forge Filters
April 5, 2008 10 Comments
Details continue to emerge about the upcoming Legendary Map Pack for Halo 3 that is expected to hit the Marketplace on April 15th, the most recent being an exciting new feature called the Forge filter. Forge filters are objects that “change the camera settings to create a variety of effects”. Basically it’s something spherical in shape (it resembles a power-up) that you place on the map like you do with anything else while in Forge mode. The Forge filter itself becomes invisible during actual gameplay, but the visual effects are completely visible across the entire map once the game starts. Not only will this give you the ability to set a specific mood when playing custom games, but it has a decent amount of potential for creating some spectacular screenshots as well. Here are the various Forge filters applied to the same screenshot.

I have a feeling we will be playing on tons of color altered maps for a while after the Legendary Map Pack is released until the novelty wears off. I’ll have to wear my sunglasses to protect my eyes from the burn. I don’t doubt some creative folks will make good use out of these filters though, both in terms of custom games and also screenshots. I bet some people’s brains are already in overdrive with the all the possibilities.

Uh oh. You arent leaving your box for days…
I can’t wait for these to come out, but I am a but confused about their usage. I guess we’ll just wait and see.
Yeah, waiting and seeing sounds like a good plan. Should be interesting, that’s for sure.
I don’t plan on using these Loc! I don’t play custom games (except for challenge practices) and I don’t capture screenshots so I will simply enjoy looking at other people’s work. :)
Me angel you don’t know what you miss capturing screenshots is awesome just look at the odd things you can find when taking the time. though you already have some but in my gallery you can see a wide variety of things that you will never notice if you don’t go looking for them. for example on my first page of my screenshot gallery the may I touch? and got cramp? screenshots wich appear only a split second after getting blown away into an object or the master banana and drug affection that only show up in the shockwaves of gravity hammers AFTER the screenshot is taken
You have some interesting shots in your gallery. Why aren’t you submitting to my screenshot site? :)
The correct answer to that would be because I did not know of this previous mentioned part of your enterprises. wich brings me to the question where the lagg is it?
You can find it on my sidebar right under my gamercard, http://www.halo3screenshots.com. :)
Hmm, I doubt I would use these much, but I’d play around with them for some of my maps perhaps. I hope people don’t just use these in their games for no reason, it could end up being as annoying as spawning in eternally exploding fusion coils…
P.S
How can you not play custom games? most of my played games are customs and I love them!
Weird.
Looks cool though. Imagine the possibilities for machinema and stuff. :O
I can almost guarantee you we’ll see this put to use at some point in the new RvB series that will be released soon…
This ought to make for some amusing zombie games. :P
