October 2007 was an awesome era for Halo 3-themed faceplates. Early that month we saw three different themes, Master Chief in gold, Legendary in copper, and Covenant in blue. The latter part of the month brought us a classic green Finish the Fight plate along with a brightly colored Prophet of Regret offering. All of them were creative, unique, and more than visually appealing. Then along came November with no Halo-themed faceplates. I shed many a tears. December also hurt with the gaping void of my favorite seven foot tall Spartan. By the time January arrived, I was hardened to the pain and only felt slightly bitter. With one cursory glance this latest faceplate manages to erase the pain and suffering from the last four Halo-free faceplate months.

This Xbox 360 faceplate will appeal to the vast majority of Master Chief fans with its classic Halo green coloring, the simple Halo 3 logo, and the adorable little Grunt adorning the power button. And think about it this way too, with each faceplate made with a different character we get a step closer to a Cortana one. Because you know it’s coming. After we are done celebrating the Grunt birthday of course.
UPDATE : This item sold for US $43.00.

I’ll celebrate the grunt birthday party just as soon as my birthday passes in early April. I’ve never been a fan of grunt birthday parties though. Color me selfish. :-)

I made a clear purple plate for Cortana, but I wasn’t that happy with it and apparently neither was anyone else. Great idea, bad execution. Finding figures in a faceplate-appropriate scale has been difficult. I had this grunty guy and one of the Banshee Elite pilots but he’s in an odd pose. I do have a few Heroclix that I’m going to try to work into some faceplates, and hopefully one of those will be a Cortana.

Man, I would love to see one of a grunt with confetti coming out of its head. That would be the best….
