Now that we have a real life energy sword (well, as real life as it can be without being made of plasma I suppose), it’s only natural that we need a real life shield to go along with it. While any old shield would probably do a satisfactory job, where’s the fun in that? We clearly need something Halo-themed to dual wield alongside our shiny new weapon. Luckily for you, such a thing exists. Don’t be surprised. There’s Halo crap everywhere, you know that by now.

The design on this round Spartan shield, according to its creator, was inspired by wall markings from our favorite video game series. I didn’t recognize the reference when I first looked at it so I spent some time searching for similar markings on objects within the game. It took me a while to come up with anything even remotely resembling this image but I did finally find something that has the same feel.

The first image is a closeup of the Halo 3 sword. The second image is zoomed in on the design with the color contrast increased to sharpen the finer details. Somewhat resembles the shield design, yes? That is about all I could scrounge up that explained the Halo reference. Could be I am missing something else that is more obvious. That wouldn’t be like me at all, now would it? And yes, I looked on walls too.
If this very subtle Halo-themed shield is appealing to you, it can be purchased from ape2human’s eBay Store for $119.99 (plus $17.99 shipping). If subtlety is not your thing, then maybe this one is more up your alley.

There’s certainly no mistaking what video game this shield references. This more obvious piece will run you a little bit less at $94.99 (plus $17.99 shipping again) at the same store. So what is your taste, subtle or obvious?

I would have to go with something even less obvious than the first one. I would like it to look like the walls of Sandtrap.
That is if I needed a shield…

I think the design was inspired by the Forerunner glyphs, I think seen mostly in Halo 1. That’s also probably what the sword design is referencing (as the Covenant pretty much stole all their stuff from the Forerunners).
Halo nerd, awaaaaaaay…

Excellent find! That definitely looks like the designs on the sword. I wonder what else the Forerunner glyphs adorn.

Can’t I just get both :p
Though it will be hard to convince Fee to let me put them up in the living room.

I remember seeing them all over the walls on the level “343 Guilty Spark” back in Halo 1. They show up in lots of places though, both Forerunner and Covenant.

Funny story about those glyphs – they also show up on the backs of Elite’s throughout h1. I always thought they were so badass: each elite has a different one on their backs (red elites, gold, cammo baby blue, etc). I’m such a nerd that for the longest time, and still now to this day, I think about getting the glyph on the back of the Black Strike-Team Elite (from the later levels of h1 when the Flood show up) as a tattoo, just because it’s so cool and only true fans would get the reference :)
