A Tale of a Cursed Console

Would you buy a console that was cursed? I think I watch too much of the television show A Haunting because my answer is no, regardless of what the price tag is. Let me explain.

cursed PS3

An eBay auction for a cursed PS3 just closed with the spooky item fetching $380 for the unlucky previous owner. After scanning some similar items on eBay, that seems to be around the going rate for this particular product. There were 34 bids for this possessed gaming console so clearly people were not frightened off by its history. I certainly would be though.

The first owner of this demonic system tells this tale :

I purchased the system sometime in mid to late August. I sold my entire library of 360 games and the system, as well as most of my DVD collection to afford it.

In October, the vacation I planned on taking to visit family was a complete fallout. I lost six unpaid days from work and didn’t get to see my family.

In November I was mugged in downtown Columbus after a concert. My cell phone, my money, and all three of my credit cards were taken. They also took my smokes.

In December I got into a car accident, breaking my leg and almost died. Due to the fact that I had no insurance, I was forced out of the hospital without adequate medication (read: no pain killers at all) and was left with a half-assed cast job on my left leg.

Then I found out the home my father was supposed to have purchased he never did, putting the house in default, and evicting me. This was basically right on Christmas Eve.

The day after my accident I started feeling like I had a cold. By the second day I realized I had pneumonia. Neither of my jobs allowed me to take time off to get better, or else I’d be fired. So I was forced to work a retail job coughing and wheezing, with a broken leg from the accident and a tech support job when I could barely breathe and couldn’t talk. Then my right ear started to hurt, by the next day I couldn’t hear out of my right ear at all. This went on well into January.

The day before I shipped out the PStriple I found out I was gonna be let go at the end of December due to “lack of performance.”

Perhaps he was having a string of bad luck? The second owner’s story :

Having been told it was “cursed” I couldn’t resist testing his hypothesis. Besides, I wanted a backwards compatible PS3. I got it in the mail, the system worked great. It’s still in great condition. I have had the system for one month – since January 1st. The following all happened within that time:

Three days after I got the system I had a brand-new engraved Ipod Touch that had been a present for my birthday ripped out of my hands on the subway. The thief ducked around a corner and disappeared, and was never caught.

I also caught either the flu, or pneumonia, despite the fact that I had quit smoking two months prior. I was knocked out for a week, the longest I have ever been sick, and there were three days in a row my temperature went above 103.1 degrees. I nearly died but I was too sick to even go to the hospital, and suffered it out. I lost almost a full week of pay.

Three weeks ago I lost over four days of work at an editing station when Final Cut Pro mysteriously glitched out. Not only did it corrupt all my save files, it deleted many hours of captured footage and somehow corrupted even the autosaves on a separate external hard drive, I am just now catching up.

Two weeks ago I woke up with two HUGE red marks on my face I initially thought were spider bites. It turned out to be much worse: an infestation of bedbugs.

Now I’m not going to blame our currently crippled economy on my PS3, but I will say I also lost over $4000 in the stock market, which is part of why I have to sell this box.

And, to cap it all off, I found out my girlfriend of 5 YEARS was cheating on me and I had to break it off. It was working out, until a month ago, when she started acting weird, that cheating wh*re. Even worse, I found out she was cheating on our five-year anniversary, just days from Valentines’ day as the perfect F U. The system itself works perfectly however.

Maybe just an odd coincidence. Is there a price tag low enough that you would have purchased this item? Or does the evil presence that resides within the hard drive not bother you? Man, I need to quite watching ghost story shows and movies. I can practically visualize the spirit laughing gleefully as it excitedly awaits meeting its new owner.

  1. Heh-heh. Now we know why Sony went from Number one to Number three despite having the most powerful console ever put together by human hands. They’re all cursed!
    The dots, they are connected.

  2. lol this is some pretty messed up stuff. Unfortunately, I guess the ‘temptation’ doesn’t hold the same weight for me, because I honestly just couldn’t care less about any Playstation console, and think the PS3 is just a waste of money anyway since i never wanted one lol – It’d be like if someone in the back streets came up to me and said “You there boy…I have this dog turd for sale…but beware!!! it is indeed cursed…” *blank stare. walks away*.
buuuut that’s just me being a jerk lol. I guess if it were a cursed Xbox 360 or Nintendo Wii….after hearing those horror stories, I probably wouldn’t even take it for free.

  4. Despite some comments that PS3 is a waste of money… I don’t even wanna argue about that and get into a heated discussion here about it lol. Me being a PS3 owner myself…I’ll just express that in my own blog :)

But this article is spooky! Either these guys have really horrible luck or yeah…that ps3 may be cursed. (probably an xbox trapped in a ps3’s body)

  5. I don’t normally buy consoles off or ebay or used, I guess that’s my own little superstition/OCD.

I do understand the temptation of checking out something haunted/cursed which is why I once went to Centralia. But I guess I’d rather be off-ed quickly by some ghost then to break my bones, get sick, and lose all my money.

So lets see, it’s an auction for a PS3.

With the fun additions of misfortune, sickness and despair thrown in for free.

With an offer like that how can i refuse. Well pretty easily actually. :)

It’s like Wet Paint, you know you shouldn’t but you really want to!

If I had the money I’d buy it from sheer curiosity.

I wish there was a way to track this console, like that site that tracks dollar bills or whatever, … I would love to hear how it goes for the next owner.

    Eek.

Has anyone ever played against someone who owned a ‘blessed’ console? :)

I don’t think my console is blessed. I’m pretty sure I would win more if it was. ;)
