Gamers are a unique breed, there is no doubt about it. But for every person that has a particular preference, there is somebody else out there that has the same exact taste. I know someone fits this description perfectly, I just hope she finds him.

Previously our Friday procrastinate-until-you-can-sneak-out-of-work-early activities were Rorschach Inkblot Tests using the global heatmaps from Halo 3 as our images. The answers always varied from deeply insightful to side splitting hilarious, and I loved reading through them every week. Unfortunately there are only so many maps and we happily burned out way through them. That means it’s time for a new Friday activity.
I spend a decent amount of time these days scouring through screenshots for halo3screenshots.com. I find myself coming across ones that are so funny, they seem to be positively begging for a caption. Thus begins Friday Caption Fun. I’ll give you a screenshot, you come up with a caption (or 42 if you are NsU Soldier!). Just like with the Rorschach Inkblot Tests, I’ll do a recap on next week’s post of some of the funnier submissions.

Once upon a time there was a boy who loved video games. This boy bought an Xbox 360. Two years later it broke. The boy had no choice but to send it in for repairs. It was then that Microsoft decided to screw him over. A very big bend on over so we can give you the royal treatment sort of screwing. This is his story.
A passionate gamer by the name of Nathaniel purchased an Xbox 360 at launch. After working reliably for over two years, his faithful console companion finally kicked the bucket. It was then that he faced a major quandary. Should he send it in for repairs or attempt to fix it himself? The obvious answer would be send it in for repairs but Nathaniel’s 360 was not like yours and mine. Oh no, it was special. “Was” being the key word.
Nathaniel’s Xbox 360 was his trusty traveling companion. Throughout their joint adventures, Nathaniel acquired several signatures from notable members of the gaming community, all collected directly upon his console with permanent marker. Signatures from several members of the Rooster Teeth Productions staff shared space with signatures from members of the Xbox 360 team and also staff from Bungie Studios. He even had custom artwork by Rooster Teeth Comics artist and Halo fan artist Luke McKay on it.
This console adorned with things representing very special memories held great sentimental value to Nathaniel as you can imagine. Not even taking into account that it had monetary value as well, it was simply a console that he adored. That is why shipping it off to the repair center was not the easiest choice to make. But between that and trying to repair it himself, it was the better option. Taking it apart would have voided the warranty so if his attempts at fixing it had been unsuccessful, he would have been screwed. Unfortunately he still got screwed, but he didn’t know that would happen at this point.
There is nothing I enjoy more than a scalding hot, relaxing bubble bath. Give me a gaming magazine so I can get caught up on the latest news and I can easily waste away the afternoon morphing into a prune. Not many people were surprised when Toshiba finally announced that they will no longer develop, manufacture and market HD DVD players and recorders. When Microsoft followed suit with their statement that they were withdrawing from HD DVD, rumors began to circulate about how low the price for the Xbox 360 HD DVD Player would drop. Official word is that you can now expect to pick up this add on for an estimated $49.99 in most regions.

$50 is actually low enough that I would consider purchasing this right now. An additional USB port sounds nice (it would especially come in handy if I played Rock Band *cough*) and there are tons of sales out there on HD DVDs. The “Get 5 free movies when you buy select HD DVD players” deal is good for a few more days, and Amazon is having a “Save 50% on HD DVDs” sale for a limited time as well. Many of their titles are discounted even deeper than half off so you can find some great bargains in there. Perhaps the time is finally right if you have been on the fence about making this purchase, or maybe it is just time to say good riddance and get a Blu-ray player.
Portal’s pink heart covered paper weighted companion cube is so yesterday. Catch up with the times by instead creating the lovable turret from everybody’s favorite action filled puzzle game. Making one of these would be the perfect way to celebrate the newly announced Portal 2. Beware though, apparently this paper turret tips over just as easily as the turrets in the actual game.
The current Xbox 360 video game library is stocked full of entertaining titles to play.
