Fans of the terrifyingly gory Saw movie series can expect a new thrill around Halloween of 2009, except it won’t be in the form of yet another movie. This time around it will be more interactive. Oh yes, Saw is going the video game route.

Brash Entertainment used the Jigsaw puppet to announce that Saw, the video game, is in the works for the Xbox 360 and the PS3. I have loved this movie series since it was first released. With the films featuring various dilemmas that leave the victims fighting for survival, it certainly seems like it would make an easy transition into the video game realm. I suppose we will just have to wait and see if it is able to live up to its potential. Because I, personally, think it could be great. Could being the key word.

Angel, unfortunately I don’t share the same opinion, as the game industry has only made a good movie translation every once in 5 years. Not that I like the movie (which I don’t, as I believe there’s so much punishment the human body can handle), but just to imagine what the game designers are going to implement from the movie in the game really leaves me totally confused.
Anyway, let’s see how this goes on.

I agree the chances of it being a quality game are not the highest, but I still see potential within the story lines for an entertaining title. Unfortunately they released absolutely no details about what they plan on doing so it’s hard to tell. I’ll hold on to my single shard of hope though, lol …

Wow, this is…really shocking. Not shocking in the sense that they’re making another movie-videogame crossover…but Saw? I LOVE the saw franchise (kind of). Saw 1 was just absolutely awesome; The fact that the movie was filmed in 18 Days (unbelievable) and on such a low budget…they deserved every penny they got from that movie after it was taken from Sundance to theaters. Not to mention the plot was totally creative and unique, I love thrillers, and the intensity kept me watching the whole way through. Saw 2, 3, and 4 are in my opinion not nearly as good, but still decently entertaining to see the least…no matter, because the bottom line is that even though they’re not as good as the original, I’ll still see Saw 5 (yes, it is being made).
…But how can you make Saw into a video game? It’s an intense thriller…but that’s because you’re waiting to see how the characters get through the situation. A videogame based TOO closely on the movie would be simple, because if you saw the movie, you’d know how to beat the game! Just go here, do this, find this, use this key like they did in the movie, etc etc. I think this would need some SERIOUS creativity to pull off being a good game. Like Viva Pinata level creativity.

I see what you did there at the end. ;)

this game could be great if they play on the depth of the storyline, or really bad if they just play on the torture and gore. i’d personally prefer it to be like former because i love the saw series for it’s plot.

I’ve never seen any of the SAW movies because I’m a big woos and I can’t handle scary movies. However turning this to a video game…now that’s a different story! I’m excited about this and hope it’s as good as the movie (even though I’ve never seen them but heard they were really good). We’ll see huh?

I have seen all of the saw movies!
I hope it will be based on Saw I and III
(as those two were my faves out of the 4)
It will make for an interesting video game..

I at first was taken aback that they would make this into a game. But I will admit that the Saw movies (especially the first one) have a very well developed atmosphere of doom that permeates throughout. And by that I don’t mean it’s destined to fail. What I mean is that if the game has this same atmosphere of hopelessness and desperation, we could have a very, very good game that comes of this.
(But more than likely it will just be another shoddy movie game…)
