There has not been a shortage of mods for the flimsy fake drum set that comes with Rock Band. From covers for the drums (to quiet down the constant banging) to a drum pedal mod (that won’t break if you actually use it), gamers have been coming up with ways to improve their Rock Band drumming experience. While the other mods have been on a small scale, someone finally decided to do one on a much larger scale.
Brett “Buzz” Dawson took a full sized drum kit (yes, a real one) and modded it until it was functional with Rock Band. On top of that he has also detailed exactly how he made the self titled Ultimate Rock Band Drum Kit in a full build report. The good news is that this mod is probably one of the best ones you are going to find considering his technical expertise. If you recognize his name it’s because he is a BattleBots competitor and has made more than one hundred robots that can totally kick my ass. The bad news is that there is no way a non-techie like myself can pull off this mod. So instead I will simply ogle his amazing work. Wow, that is totally hardcore and I so want it. Hahaha Battlebots! That show raped! wasn’t Brett Dawson’s bot Moebius? My favorite bot was Ziggo…*focuses* This is totally badass and I so want it. I wouldn’t mind shelling out the cash if Rockband actually looked like this
Hehe, I didn’t think you guys would notice that I was a bot builder as well. And -S-, you are correct, Moebius was my main battlebot. I’m flattered that you guys made the connection :-)
As for making a kit like this for yourself, I have about $2,000 wrapped up in this drum kit.

Holy Drum set!! I want that!! I was thinking about modding up my electric drums to Rockband’s but…I’m not that talentend and technical enough to do so lol However I played Rockband with my real drumset and just played along with the songs and my hubby played the RB guitar and I did my own beat to it…I guess that would be close enough lol.

Totally awesome. I’m best at drums anyway, but I think that this set might totally ruin me. Still, it looks so cool.
I think this is the point at which I just pull out my drum kit, set it up in the media room, and go to town while my friends play Guitar Hero.
