My Fake Version of Rock Band

My stance on the popular music game Rock Band has not budged an inch since the game was released. No I don’t want it, and no I still won’t be purchasing it. Why? The main reasons are because I don’t want the humongous drum set further cluttering up my gaming room and I don’t want that piece of crap guitar that is only good for people that strum down. Not quite as important reasons include the lack of female singers on their song list and the fact that it is only available in the pricey bundle.

That being said, I love Guitar Hero and still waste away entirely too much of my life playing it. Everybody tells me the drums are the standout instrument in Rock Band, so I have decided to make my own version of Rock Band that will take up 99% less space.

This lovely drum set is USB powered meaning I can plug it into my 360′s ports. Yes, I understand there won’t be a track to follow on the actual game but I can plug it in and pretend like I am playing along with Guitar Hero. At least this way I can’t fail. The $29.99 pricetag is much nicer than the one that accompanies Rock Band, but the best thing about it is that it rolls up for easy storage. No worries about a big bulky fake set of drums in my family room anymore! Rock on.

lol, I think you and I are the only ones that have the same opinion on this issue…

i don’t have any room for the set either- i barely have room to lay out my dance mat!

I think my neighbors upstairs purchased this game though- i hear a lot of smashing noises accompanied by loud music.

sorry silvercube, i’ll try to keep it down. seriously though, i want rock band…but i don’t want to spend an assload of $ and have that massive clunky set all the way around my room. that’s why i compromised and..didn’t get rock band. I have Guitar Hero 2 & 3, and you only need 1 easy yet badass controller :)

I don’t want Rock band at all, but I still don’t see why the gender of the singers should effect the gameplay experience for you.

I don’t want GH either, you should of seen me try out the demo in the back of GAME, it was so pathetic I made myself lol.

I have a rather girly voice so singing at those lower tones just isn’t doable for the most part. Plus it doesn’t help that I can’t sing worth a darn regardless.

GH seems like fun to me. I might get it sometime. I also loved Donkey Konga on the good ol’ Gamecube

Yeah we have the Rockband complete package and yeah the drums take a lot of room. I haven’t really played that game for a couple of weeks now and don’t really have the urge to play it for some reason. It is a pretty good game though. Althought I know some inside news about the next Guitar Hero…and I think angel may not like the news :/

…well? you just gonna leave us hangin like that? :)

  8. silvercube says:

@ ashame: Donkey Konga is good stuff!

Although I prefer Donkey Konga 2 over 1 though.. better selection of songs : )

    Clap and smack!

Uh oh, … I have a very bad feeling about one of my most favorite video games ever now. :(

uh-oh, I think I know what Florence is hinting at….

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guitar_Hero_(series)#Future_installments
“Activision and RedOctane have also trademarked the titles “Guitar Villain” and “Drum Villain” as well as “Keyboard Hero”, “Drum Hero” and “Band Hero”.[6] Analysts expect that future Guitar Hero games in 2008 will include additional instrument peripherals to compete against Rock Band.[7]”

For more realistic drum play on GH3 you could always try this guy’s setup… costs rather a lot more than $30 though ;)

I know you’re not going to believe me, BS, but this game has gotten people I never thought would be into gaming to go out and buy a ($300) 360 and the ($170) game. I’ve taken it to work twice now (minus the drums, they’re too loud) and people fight over who’s going to play and for how long. The last three large parties I’ve been at have featured Rock Band, front and center, and I’m not shitting you– two women I work with, over the age of 50, never held a game controller in their life, rocking out on guitar to the Clash on easy. My boss? Flailing away at the drums on medium. Me? Rediscovering my love of singing badly at the top of my lungs, a love I never even realized I lost.

I know you love guitar hero. I do too. It makes me sad that you won’t give Rock Band a chance, though… Remember, it’s made by the same people who made GH2, and you loved that, right?

(Oh, the concerns you raised; 1) you’re right, the drums are honkin, they live at my friend’s house, 2) actually, it’s the downstrum that broke, and it’s either a love-it-or-hate-it peripheral; people either love it and never pick up a GH guitar again or miss the clickiness of the GH strumbar (like me) and just use that, and 3) the proportion of female-fronted bands in RB is higher than in rock music in general. On top of that, they’ve released what, 35?, downloadable songs in the last couple months featuring bands like the Pretenders, the Runaways, and the Sounds. Based on the quality of the DLC so far (I have everything except for the Police pack, because sting can bite me) and the overwhelming requests from the community on their very well-run forums, I believe HMX will give us more female-fronted bands.

This has turned into a book when I didn’t mean it to be… but honestly, one of the best times gaming I’ve ever had was when we failed out on Wanted Dead or Alive at a party because 25 drunk people were singing at the top of their lungs a little too close to the mic and it got confused. Best. Group. Game. Evar.

  13. Crazyeye0 says:

    “Keyboard Hero”? Lol what?

  14. Nick Puleo says:

There’s actually quite a few female songs in the game. I’d say with the included bonus songs there are almost 10.

I know…cuz they are pretty much the only ones my wife will sing for me on. :)

  15. Florence says:

…well? you just gonna leave us hangin like that?

LOL sorry if I spill it out the news about the next GH it won’t be a surprise anymore :) Although Spyder kinda has it right… One of my good friends is one of the game developers in Neversoft (He developed most the Tony Hawk series) and is already working on creating the next GH… and all I can say is that the developers are playing Rockband a lot hehe.

  16. Venus Envy says:

I have played both games i do enjoy both. I like the online ability of Rock Band compared to the cop out online multiplayer of GH3 (especially the coop), but i prefer the overall look and feel of GH3 rather then RB. The guitar that comes with RB does suck donkey ballz and i actually won’t pay 150+ dollars for a game that im going to play sometimes… also i hate that fucking drum set, it has to be the most annoying noisy piece of shit plastic ever invented.

  17. bs angel says:

Yeah, what she said! LOL …

Ash, I love you. That’s all.
