Holiday Lights Controlled by Guitar Hero

I am going to do this next year with the lights on the outside of my house. Then I will play all night long to keep my neighbors entertained. I have the stamina to fret fast and furious for hours on end. I’m kinda sorta a rock star like that.

About this video, from VI Road Show :

We here at National Instruments like to use our stuff for some really serious pieces of Engineering that make the world a better place. At other times, we like to simply make something that is cool with no regard for seriousness or changing the world. Todays video shows one of those. Kyle Bryson is an engineer working at NI that has, for the past few years, used various pieces of NI hardware and software to create a flashy and musical Christmas experience at his cubicle. This year, he decided to use an open source video game called Frets on Fire (similar to Guitar Hero and written in Python) and synchronize elements of it with the Christmas lights all around his cube using NI DAQ and Compact DAQ chassis. The result is both stunning and fun but not particularly world changing which is just fine with us.
