Dad Wants to Play It Too

About this video :

We surprised our son with an xBox 360 Elite & The Halo 3 Legendary Edition and a friend and his wife even pitched in for a controller. The thing is, Nik has always been sick or hurt for his last few birthdays. This year he broke his collar bone playing soccer and we wanted to do something really special. We kept telling him money was tight & we couldn’t afford an xBox 360 or the game but “maybe we could rent it for you one weekend.”

I have a feeling when this kid asks for chocolate milk, he says please.

I need a tissue. Actually, just hand me the whole box please.

I think the dad wants some of that action too.

That’s one hell of a birthday. Good to see a kid that’s grateful and not spoiled like a lot of kids today.

Touching sure… but I hate to deal with the kids complex later in life…

“DON’T OPEN THE BOX!” “DON’T WRECK THE BOX!” … jeez dude, it’s just a box… as long as the kid respects the contents and the money his parents splashed out, and I guess from his reaction he does, who cares what he does with the boxes?

Hahaha awww, so touching. Thats seriously the definition of good parenting. Everyone always remembers their first time <3 This kid got really lucky – my parents always thought video games were mind wasting and always refused to get me any system whatsoever; I had to enviously play Duck Hunt and Mario over at my friends house when I was lucky enough to get invited over. I didn’t own any console until I saved up enough allowances (at $5 a week) to save up $200 or so for an N64, and that was in middle school. Bless these parents. *sniff* play on little buddy *tear*

That was very sweet! I hope the girl gets something awesome too! (I’m just sayin)
We got presents like that as teenagers-but when we were under the age of 10 big things were “gifts for the family”

  14. About brought a tear to the eyes of my wife and i as well. We have been bandying about the idea of getting our daughter (3 years old) a DS for either Christmas this year or her birthday next year. She already plays mine a boatload if i put in the game she likes.

    Very precious.

The girl looks a bit jealous or something.. these presents don’t seem like they were for her- i think the girl should have gotten something as well. thats not right.

Im kind of that way lol.. when my mom bought me my xbox 360, i was soo happy, and i knew about how easy the xbox could RoD so i have been extra careful. But hey $400 dollars dosnt come cheap.

My sister had a friend over, and she wanted to play san andreas on my xbox, so i let her.. the disk was a bit scrateced, and didnt want to load right.. What did she do? she hit my xbox. really hard. i heard it pop and everything, and i completely flipped, asking why the hell did you do that! its $400 dollars, i dont have to replace if it broke. I might of over reacted >_> anyways… it didnt break the box, but It did RoD a week later :( atleast the warranty covers that, and i got a new one.

“you bought an xbox 360 for me to keep forever?”

Well, at least until it RRoDs. ;)

Actually, that really just made my day. After a kinda “blah” day at work, seeing a kid be so happy about something I’m a (very very) small part of really puts things in perspective.

    Thanks for posting this.

Wow that was emotional, but I can’t help but think, somewhere down the track, will this kid turn into a typical teenage gamer.

Yeah I’ll let you define “typical teenage gamer”.

That kid is so endearing. :) It’s nice to see him appreciate the gifts/realize the hard-earned money put into those gifts. That’s a very good example of how kids SHOULD be, something to strive towards.

  24. wow…. that made me cry lol…. That kid is such a sweetheart! “I can’t believe this is actually happening!” It’s so refreshing to see a kid who actually appreciates the gifts he gets. This made my day…

I watched it again today and I still teared up. Who am I kidding, I cry like a baby. But it is just so neat seeing such an appreciative child.

  26. Okay, that’s cool. I’m also pleased that the kid realizes that magical boxes of fun aren’t free. There’s a level of appreciation on his part that I wouldn’t expect from kids.

i was totally like that last christmas when my mum told me she’d been lying about not being able to get hold of a wii, and had actually been down the shops at 6am on launch day :D and i’m 23!

  28. I think the part I loved the most was that he wanted to give his dad money to pay for it; It’s so unusual with this generation for kids to truly understand value in anything that’s given to them… And to see a young kid like that, truly know that this is something to be grateful for.

Definitely had a few tears there. It was just so cute.

It was really sweet of the parents to surprise their kids with this gift but seriously does XBOX Live really need another 8 year old playing Halo 3? The game carries a M rating for a reason.

  30. I totally balled watching this. That was really awesome! The reaction of the boy was better than what you can hope from your kid. As for people saying the girl should’ve got something, I’m sure she will be playing co-op with her bro. It was his birthday!

My parents did something similar to me when I really really really wanted the Marathon Trilogy boxset and they kept saying, yea right that is way too expensive. So Christmas came, and we all unwrapped the presents, and were just sitting around talking, and they asked me if I got everything I wanted. And I said “almost” And then in walks my bro with another present for me, and I unwrapped it, and it was the Marathon Trilogy boxset. I balled, and shocked they actually got it for me :)
