The Blue Screen of Death Strikes Back

Sometimes I miss the Blue Screen of Death from Halo 2. It was such a staple in our evening fragging activities. I notice its glaring absence and even reminisce fondly about some of the more hilarious conversations that took place in that glowing blue environment. My favorite was always when people would act like they were still playing by team communicating, making you briefly wonder if you were the only one stuck on that infamous screen. I fell for that one every time. Freakin’ jerks.

Anyways, all it takes right now to relive those moments is a trip to Toronto. One of The Bay department store locations is suffering from a technical difficulty that brings back all of those wonderful memories. The four giant display screens at that store have been crashed for at least a few days. Apparently all the technicians in that city are on vacation. Apparently anybody who can turn a display screen off is also on vacation.

Let’s take a moment of silence to remember this phenomenon that is no longer in the virtual world. We can take solace from the fact that it inhabits the real world now.

Seems like since they haven’t fixed those displays, they wouldn’t mind if I put one in my living room! :)

I still do the “blue screen” communication fake-out in Halo 3, but it’s a black screen now :)

People are always confused and even freak out sometimes.
