Halo 3 Global Heatmaps
November 9, 2007 10 Comments
Bungie.net recently released global heatmaps of all the maps currently available in the multiplayer matchmaking system. About these maps :
Is carnage splattering the walls of Valhalla’s hot gates? Should you be adding camping stools into the top of Construct via Forge?
Our stats radar is tracking every kill and death in Halo 3. The darker the red, the more frequent the carnage.
my favorite heatmap for some reason

I can see these being very useful for strategical purposes. Not only are all the maps available in this new pretty extremely colorful and bright version, but they can be broken down stats wise for those people that enjoy quantifying. You can look at the maps with the kills from all of the weapons or you can select just one particular weapon as well.

That is so totally awesome. LoL @ the snowbound heatmap. I hate how it turns into an underground camping-shotty fest every single time. Play above the influence people, and lets have fun in the snow :)) Wow did i really beat out silvercube today?
That is pretty schnazzy. I’ll have to drop by and take a look before we lan tonight. I also like to play outside on Snowbound. Breaking it down by weapon is pretty helpful too. Playing outside on Snowbound is more fun – there’s more stuff to do. :D
I really just hate snowbound lol. Everytime it comes up, I instantly throw down the Veto. Don’t get me wrong – it’s beautiful, clever, and wonderfully designed, but in all honesty the shield doors completely ruin that level. Those doors make everything outside meaningless, because if you can get a close quarters weapon *cough*shotgun*cough* then you can hold the lower levels and literally force your opponents hand to make a move towards you. You can’t even get fragged out, the other team literally has to come through the glow into deaths open arms with a shotty waiting on the other side of the shield door. Think of how beautiful Snowbound would be if the shield doors could be turned off via the forge. It would be an amazing level. I personally have had many times where playing on snowbound (especially oddball…dont get me started) where you’re trying to finish a kill, and he barely makes it through the shield door alive, and you curse out loud. You can’t go and follow him in, he has the upper hand now. He can turn around, wait for you to give chase, and then frag, shotty, etc your body just as you come through the door. On other levels, people who try to escape can at least get taken out by a well-placed nade, but not on snowbound. That brings me back to oddball. Later I can put that video back on my file share of Lone Wolves Oddball on Snowbound and how sad it makes me – once i picked up the ball at the beginning of the game, i held it straight to 100 without dying. Just 1-Hit KOing people through the shield doors back and forth as they came downstairs to me. So sad. That level had so much potential *sniff* :’(
In conclusion:
Long Live the 2 greatest H3 Levels ever –
The Pit & Isolation. Just look at the heatmap of Isolation – it’s like an orgy of death! Pure skill, I just love it :)
@ -S- : Yes, lol “you beat me”.
For the next week I am going to be extremely busy… college midterms! x_x
Umm and about the halo 3 map thingies.. Wow 0_o
wow, bungie is great.
@-S-: I think you should use those things you hate about the sheilds in Snowbound and use them to your advantage. You might have a better time. :) On the other hand, I totally agree!
Those map images make me think about the time I talked to the psychologist and they asked me what I thought of when I saw splotches on the page.
@ momohine –
I DO use those things in snowbound to my advantage…I won Lone Wolves Oddball 100 seconds to the 2nd place guy’s 2. TWO! And that’s against level 45′s my friend. I’m not saying I’m not good at it, and that’s why i dislike it – I’m saying it changes the way the level is played, and it’s a tragic shame because theres so much more to the level that gets left out when the only thing you need to focus on is using underground shield-tactics and the like.
Just look at the heatmap! Think of what’s on Snowbound – Beautiful scenery, gun-turrets, hills and randomly placed covie obstacles, a ghost, an overshield, a brute-shot, etc…none of which are thought of as high priority at all: all the killing is going on downstairs! and with the shotgun! (look at the shotgun kill count on snowbound heatmap) It’s just so unfortunate. Forge gives us the ability to change eeeeeverything, except shield doors. At the very least, it would give players more variety, and a different map experience. Know what I’m saying?
i do! you’ve got a good point.
ps. you would most likely pwn me at snowbound.
I would pwn both of you on Snowbound. I once stuck myself on that map. I’ve got some mad skillz.
looks like a penis lol no offense ha ha ha
but yea thats cool
