Guitar Hero III : Legends of Rock was just released yesterday and it is already swimming in the sea of controversy. From bundles containing the old X-Plorer guitars to complaints over the new wireless Les Paul guitars, some Guitar Hero fans are finding themselves less than thrilled with RedOctane’s newest offering.

Several gaming sites are reporting stories of people going in to purchase their Guitar Hero III bundles expecting to have the heavily hyped shiny new wireless guitars but instead finding the wired X-Plorer guitars that originally came with Guitar Hero II. The boxes are clearly marked but since there was no mention of the bundles coming with the old controllers, it did not occur to the majority of consumers to double check what guitar they were getting. Now that everybody is aware of the different packages being sold, check your box carefully to make sure you are getting the guitar you want if you are considering purchasing this game.
With the first impressions coming out on the new wireless Les Paul guitars, the people receiving the old X-Plorer guitars may actually be the lucky ones. Blogs and forums are angrily alive with complaints over the new guitar. Everything from certain buttons not working to star power activating by itself are plaguing new users. Are some of the issues due to the neck being detachable? Time will tell I suppose.
I have been looking forward to Guitar Hero III for quite some time now. I only managed to spend approximately two hours on it today but my first impressions are positive. I am thoroughly enjoying the variety of songs on their set list. Everything from current tracks to older classics and everything in between, the range of songs has been extremely satisfying so far. I have had problems with star power (it consistently goes off without being activated the second it becomes charged ) but can’t tell yet if the error is on my side. The tilt sensor seems extremely sensitive so it just may take some time to get used to. Overall I like the new guitar better than the older one. I find the strumming a little easier and more comfortable for some reason. Something I am undecided on as of right now is the difficulty factor which is startlingly different from the last version of this game. Starting off I am playing on Hard and it seems more comparable to Expert on GH II. I’m a bit scared to face the songs in the later categories.
Overall my first few hours of play have been enjoyable and smooth (although I did not particularly enjoy my first boss battle). How has yours been?

It might be a while before I pick this game up. Saving up is tough. But I have noticed that on GHII my friends Guitar is more sensitive then mine. I tend to hold the Guitar at a greater angle then he did and that caused the tilt sensor to go off by itself. So see if that is the cause. But the overly sensitive guitars is nothing new.
I have played the demo at the store with a guitar. I tried out expert and it seems less forgiving then GHII. Yet I was not playing with the speed code on so that was a bit different for me. Also the LCD monitor seemed to show some visual lag. Once I try it on a normal TV I will let you know. I am sure my friend will be picking this up sooner then me.

For some reason, the complaints about GH III being made by someone else and turning out a crappy product reminded me of “The Future of Gaming” video. Can’t wait for Halo 5.
Personally I never got into this series since I don’t have much time on my hands to play video games so when I do, I prefer to stick with Halo.
I played GH II at our LAN one time only. I was drunk and played on Medium. I failed within the first 10 seconds. Probably wont ever touch that game again, lol.
Im with Dren & Excardon on this one.
If I had the money, I’d probably buy it, but the problem is that Guitar Hero does not appeal to me very much.
I’m waiting for DDR universe 2. I hear the game will be released on november 14th… i hope so : )
Glad I read this! My daughters love Guitar Hero (they have it for their PS2 at their mom’s house)! I was planning on picking it up for the 360 for Christmas, now I know which guitar to look for! Thanks for the “Head’s Up”.
What what Silvercube? I had heard nothing of DDR Universe 2.
Guitar Hero and such are not my cup of tea at all…. but a new DDR game I can completely get behind.
@ xmiyux - I am so happy to hear there are DDR fans out there! You are a rarity!
Yeah, here is info on the game along with the song list which was just released!

OK, so remember how I played GH2 at the bar in Seattle, and I sucked it up on easy? Well, somehow, between then and now, I’ve become skilled! Dude, I have even five-starred songs on hard, and finished a song on expert!
I’m not sure how this happened.
In other news, Neversoft ho’ed up Judy. It kind of pisses me off. On the other hand, they send Casey to rehab, soooo… It could be worse.
That’s awesome Talli! I am sure you are a total rock star.
I am using the new girl character, I am not sure what her name is but she is the one with the puffy pigtails! I love love love all the style choices available in the shop now. So awesome!
I like Midori, I use her on my Easy campaign… She’s not very rock-y, though. I detest the new singer and most of the new art direction. It seems like a title made for guys (dancers, boobs, leg guitars, etc) more than any of the past games.
but LOVE the songs!!! Cliffs of Dover is my new face, I think.
Nothing beats having a real guitar (and a good amp)…
I have been kicking around in the demo. I like others dont like the way the game looks. The characters in the game are just freaky looking. I am with Talli, Judy is all ho’ed up. The animation is all robotic. I think I may wait this one out and get it once the price drops. I just dont feel the need to rush out and get this one.
